Raised in South and Central Texas, Mike Short graduated from Halletsville High School in 1968. Upon moving to Austin that year, he enrolled in IBEW's Electrical Apprentice program, completing it in 1974 and earning his Journeyman Electrician license. Before earning his Master Electrician license, he gained critical experience under the mentorship of respected contractors in the Austin region. In 1976, he wed Debi Mayfield, and together they became partners in running the business when he founded AC Electric in 1984.
