After his move to Austin, he soon enrolled in IBEW's Electrical Apprentice program, which he completed in 1974, becoming a licensed Journeyman Electrician. He acquired essential experience working with several esteemed contractors in Austin before achieving his Master Electrician license. After marrying Debi Mayfield in 1976, they joined forces in managing the business when he established AC Electric in 1984.
