Whitten is a California Certified General Electrician, a contractor licensed in California, and a qualified installer of EV charging systems. He joined the team at Thern & Solar in the year 2000 and took on co-ownership in the year 2006. Dave has significant experience in every phase of electrical work for commercial, private, and wine-making establishments. He is highly focused to efficient energy use for both the firm (qualifying Thern as a recognized Green Business in the year 2009) and our clients by overseeing the installation of efficient lighting and energy-saving devices to achieve substantial reductions in energy use. He performs energy monitoring and creates comprehensive reports on energy usage. He has implemented many types of lighting automation systems (LiteTouch technology, Vantage, Homeworks, Wattstopper technology, Lutron Radio RA systems, Radio RA2, Grafik Eye, and various other systems). Dave was brought up in SF, relocating to Napa as a teenager. He is a devoted husband and father of two. He also coaches his child's baseball team.

I launched Automation Electric with the intent of delving into automation projects for the industry. I designed and programmed systems for machines to automate certain processes and developed gadgets for industrial purposes. During this time, I worked on various electrical systems, designing lighting for both residential and commercial projects, as well as network wiring for data and voice, and wiring for sound systems and the latest flat-screen televisions.

I trained as an electrician in Switzerland through a four-year apprenticeship program and passed the state licensing exam as an electrical contractor in California in 1991.
