Established in 1988 in Fort Myers, Florida by Bernie Murphy, who still manages the company, West Coast Electrical & Lighting Services was initially known as ""West Coast Fire Equipment."" At first, Bernie and his crew focused on providing fire alarms and extinguishers to businesses and residential communities, but they soon expanded their offerings to include emergency lighting and a range of commercial lighting solutions.

I began my career in the fire equipment sector in January 1981, just a week after graduating high school, when I joined Fountain Fire Equipment in Ft Myers, FL. After eight years of advancing as far as I could within the company, I decided to launch my own business, which I did in December 1988, naming it West Coast Fire Equipment, Inc. I have managed this business for the last 27 years with success. In 1990, I began selling lighting products and performing repairs under the fire equipment name, and the business flourished until I created a new entity, West Coast Lighting of SW FL, in January 2001. In 2015, we rebranded to West Coast Electrical & Lighting Services to better represent our current offerings. I have received training in specialized equipment to diagnose electrical problems and have over 25 years of experience in this area. We are the go-to company when others cannot resolve the issue.
