Founded in 1988 in Fort Myers, Florida by Bernie Murphy, who continues to lead the company today, West Coast Electrical & Lighting Services began as ""West Coast Fire Equipment."" Initially, the focus was on delivering fire alarms and extinguishers to businesses and residential neighborhoods, but the team quickly diversified into emergency lighting and all forms of commercial lighting.

My journey in the fire equipment industry started in January 1981, one week after high school, when I began working at Fountain Fire Equipment in Ft Myers, FL. After eight years of advancing as far as I could within the company, I decided to launch my own business, which I did in December 1988, naming it West Coast Fire Equipment, Inc. I have successfully operated this business for the past 27 years. In 1990, I started providing lighting products and repair services under the fire equipment brand, and the business grew until I launched a new company, West Coast Lighting of SW FL, in January 2001. In 2015, we updated our name to West Coast Electrical & Lighting Services to more accurately reflect our services today. I am trained in using specialized tools to identify electrical issues and bring over 25 years of experience to the table.
