Stan Johnson Sr., a lifelong Austinite, always had a talent for mechanical work. After a stint as a partner in a filling station on Barton Springs Road, he worked as a union carpenter before finding his true calling at a local AC service company. Stan made the decision to establish his own company. In 1954, he and his wife launched their own AC service business, built on his expertise and commitment to customer care.

Stan's original office was located in the backyard of a house at Denson and Guadalupe. Central air conditioning only became affordable for many central Texans in the mid-1960s. From the beginning, the Stan's Family led the way in installing and servicing air conditioners in the Austin area and continues to do so with pride today. Stan's has grown to address all plumbing requirements and remains dedicated to serving the Austin community with a sizable team of experienced plumbers.

We called Stan to come in for emergency plumbing due to our softener explored. When Javier arrived, we told him what the issue was. So, he did not have to go thru ""his diagnosis"". Instead we asked how he can help fixed it, Javier came across condescending after I asked several questions. Instead of offering options, and possible solutions, he went to speak to my husband and told him that I did not understand him. That really pissed me off! Maybe I don't have a degree in ""plumbing engineering"", I certainly have a degree that is higher than him!

Stan needs to have better customer services and start educating their technicians, or Stan will lose their customer base. It's not even the money we paid. We paid $300 for 30min of his time. It's his attitude toward women. He thinks that we, as women, have no knowledge when it comes to plumbing! We had other Stan AC service before, and I have never run into people like him. I have no issue putting this feedback onto yelp and google.

I went to their webpage and they claim to be able to work on all and any water softeners. After their technician arrive, the first thing out of his mouth was ""I've never seen nothing like this before"". That gave me a bad feeling right from the start. I googled it, and I could tell him what the problem was. Then he started quoting prices, to do guess work on my unit. He took a picture of the standing water in my salt tank, and texted it to his boss to see if he could help. The point I'm making is, Stan's knowingly sent out an under-qualified technician to do work on my water softener. They charged me $97.00 for nothing! I called the supervisor on duty and all he had to say was ""we don't know how to work on everything"". I would call that false advertisement, based on their website. What bothered me most, the supervisor wasn't at all concerned about customer service. I would not recommend them for nothing. Stan's is the worst plumbing service, I've ever used!

So incredibly disappointed. I paid $100 for a diagnostic to be told that I need to get my whole ac unit replaced. I was told my free-on was basically empty and that it would cost me $2,000 to refill it. They recommended that I instead replace the whole unit.... I trusted that they were truthful when mentioning my free-on was low and almost moved forward with replacing the entire unit for $10,000...

Luckily, my friend sent me the contact information for another repair man. I called them up and they came by and checked my free-on levels. They said my free-on levels were normal and laughed when I told them I was previously told my free-on was empty. He proceeded to show me the free-on meter and I could see that it was in fact not empty....

They said my motor needed to be replaced and that I could still get a few more years from my unit. It cost me $400 to change the motor....

And yes, after getting the motor replaced, my ac has been working perfectly FINE. It's going strong and clearly has no issues with the free-on.

I wouldn't trust this place. They are very salesy and will immediately tell you that you need a new ac unit when there could be another solution. Apparently they will also just blatantly lie about your free-on levels and god knows what else. I'm just annoyed I paid a $100 diagnostic fee to get lied too. Thankfully, I didn't spend thousands of dollars on a new unit and only had to spend a few hundred. It's frustrating that my ac issue could have been fixed faster if they didn't lie. This weather without ac is brutal...

Tech came out on 8/25. He said he would return on 8/30 with parts for repair. No call, no show. I called office and was told they would schedule him for 8/31 and call me to verify he had parts. No call, no show. I called on 9/1 and I was put on hold while phone desk was to check on status but they never came back. Call went to voicemail and I canceled the service call.
Quality of their service techs is not reliable. Communication is poor.

It is frustrating that they charge $$ only to come and see the issue. You have to pay for the visit and then pay for the follow up appointment , when they actually fix the issue. I won't hire them again nor recommend them to anybody else.

UPDATE: Company made up for their mistake. A very nice lady called me today to apologize and refunded me the $100 I was incorrectly charged. They also extended my GOLD club as a courtesy. Technician was nice and knowledgeable. I am glad they fixed and I will stick with them now.I am changing the stars from 1 to 3, because I still had a very bad experience with the first lady on the phone but I hope they train her better.


Please save yourself from scammers and do not sign for their GOLD SERVICE CLUB. They are just stealing your money! I had one visit done in Sep2021. They never called to schedule, they just go ""client forget that you gave us money to do 2 visits per year"". I called them to have someone here because 2 rooms didn't seem to be cooling off and they just zipped about our GOLD SERVICE CLUB. If they were honest, they would tell me to schedule a maintenance visit that I HAD pay for, but instead they booked a service call. Guy came, turned on a bottom that was off, check everything around but had to charge us because it was not showing for him we had a GOLD SERVICE CLUB. He said to call the office and they would refund us because there was noting wrong with our A/C. This very sarcatisc and impolite woman, called Liz, refused to refund us saying that he had service our A/C (the guy turned on something that was off and that was the ""service""). She should be fired! I paid over $100 to have someone to come to my house to turn on a bottom and I should have 2 SERVICES included a year! Dishonest company.

Had 5 people out and 1 was sick so he didn't get to finish the job, it's ok! They sent a lady out but she would have to lift two 17 pounds of toilets and I didn't want her to get hurt! Just watching out for her! She called the office and told them they had to send two guys out to help with toilets so as she would not get her back hurt! They sent the two guys out, they got toilets put together and they are in my house so I'm happy!!!! Stan's did an awesome job!!!

Called for a weekend repair of main water line to home.... Scheduled for first thing Sunday Morning ... showed at at 5 pm only to tell me it was too late .... Would send two person crew first thing Monday morning... called to check in at 10:30 to find out not scheduled but could come the following day.... Thank you Kenya Simms for nothing! .
Just use someone else!!! Called another company and they responded within the hour . These folks are full of it!

This is a terrible company! They have poor customer service and they charged me $775 for job they didn't do. I called for a refund so that I could fix the AC and now we are at a week after and still no refund! I called and asked for the manager and was told to wait or they could give me a call back. This was Monday and now it's Friday and no call back. I called today which is Friday because they said the refund would be in my account today and nothing. I called again and asked for a manager and they said they would call me back and I said no, I would wait for a manager to answer the call but was then sent to a voicemail. Now they say refund won't be in my account till Monday or Tuesday. I had to stay with my sister so that we wouldn't have to be in the heat and had to ask a family member for a loan to be able to get someone to fix the AC. Don't call this company!
