Born and raised in Austin, Stan Johnson Sr. possessed a natural talent for all things mechanical. Stan had experience as a partner in a filling station on Barton Springs Road, worked as a union carpenter, and ultimately found his passion at a local AC service company. Stan made the decision to establish his own company. In 1954, he and his wife launched their own AC service business, built on his expertise and commitment to customer care.
The first office for Stan's was situated in the backyard of a home at Denson and Guadalupe. Central air conditioning only became affordable for many central Texans in the mid-1960s. From the beginning, the Stan's Family led the way in installing and servicing air conditioners in the Austin area and continues to do so with pride today. Stan's has also expanded to meet all plumbing needs and continues to serve the Austin area with a large team of skilled and trained plumbers.

My experience with the original repair was not what I would describe as good, and my call to the General Manager was handled poorly. I was offered a partial refund but never received it. One last call went unreturned, as I remember.
So now, 2 years has passed and I had long ago written this off as just a bad transaction when out of the blue I get a call from Chris Strand, the new owner of Stan's Heating and Air-conditioning. Really? He's reading Yelp! reviews? Actually cares about a disgruntled customer? Wants to rectify the situation? Yup. That's exactly what happened!!!!! I could not find my file (we had moved) and it had been so long ago.
Chris offered to look up the work order and call me back the following week. Which he did and then explained the charges and offered to adjust the pricing to be more in line with my original expectations.
How often does this happen? Like never...
Thanks Chris, you've restored my faith in Stan's. If I need HVAC work in the future I know exactly who to call.

Stan's saw my previous review and made a better effort to solve our AC issue. It took another two visits but they did diagnose the issue and didn't charge us for the second part needed. So in the end everything worked out, and I'm glad they saw my review and did everything they could to satisfy us as customers.

Hi Roland
just kicked on the AC for the first time and it works great. Thank you for your personal involvement in getting the unit back to performance. You did an awesome job of turning a frustrating situation into one that you and you team should be proud of. It is no small task in regaining someones trust and it shows that you know that too. your responsiveness and approach was exactly what was needed to end this visit with success. very well done, sir

Prompt courteous service but failed to identify the issue in two visits. Kept blaming the Nest thermostat when the problem was a clogged drain line causing the float valve to actuate. This is coming from a certified Nest installer.

I just had a brand new heat pump system installed for our home by Stan's. They were extremely efficient and professional in all aspects of the install, and have been very helpful afterwards in helping get the thermostat set up online. I will only use Chris Strand for my A/C needs. I honestly don't think there is a better service provider out there. By the way, we used to keep our thermostat set on 74 in the winter. With the new heat pump, we have it set at 70, and it is as comfortable as 74 was with the old system.

What horrible integrity.
The Strand Brothers sell their business to another company. Part of that sale implied the goodwill which was built. Now they have radio commercials over and over stating they are at this company.
Ugg

I received a flier from this company promoting a branded single room direct vent HVAC system. I called in response to invite them to quote a couple of systems to me, and their 'regional manager' came to my home, and a few days later sent a quotation to me with a single number -- price -- with no labor / parts breakdown, no model numbers of the system they would provide, etc. This was not enough information for me to evaluate the quote, so I immediate emailed their rep asking for more information -- more than 3 weeks ago. After following up with another message, I am about done with them. If they can't even make a decent quote, and their follow-up is this bad up front, what kind of real installation and later service might follow? Not worth the risk to me, with big bucks involved.

"" From first phone call, to getting tech here earlier than original request (phoned ahead of course) ""

Came back on Sunday from a weekend trip to find my A/C not blowing cool air. I opted not to use the emergency service in order to save some money so I left a message on their after-hours machine. I received a call from Donna just after 8am the next day when they open for business. They had someone out to the house three hours later and fixed my unit in under an hour. James was the name of the technician and he was prompt (in fact, he arrived before I was able to get home from work)professional, and courteous.
A colleague recommended them from work they had done as Strand Brothers a while back. He said they tended to be a little more expensive (they installed his unit), but they were completely thorough and really stood behind their work. I only had them do a relattively minor fix, but I thought the price for my repair was reasonable. I will continue to use them unless they give me reason to otherwise.

Previous experiences w/ Stan's were perfectly fine. The techs were on time, professional & thorough.
This review is only 3 stars because the most recent visit required a followup in 24 hours. The followup was scheduled (this was a weekend event), but no technician arrived, and followup calls to the emergency line were not returned.
Given this was an AC problem, in Texas, in August, I considered the problem to be significant. Unfortunately I've had to find another service provider to finish the job.
I've been burned once. Perhaps it's a one-time occurrence, but you never know.
