Kevin Comerford and his family have been meeting the heating and air conditioning needs of Northern California homeowners since 1972.
In 1994, Kevin earned his degree from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
After graduation, he returned home to join his parents' air conditioning and heating business.
His parents sold the business to a major corporation in Dallas, TX, after 25 years of ownership.
Kevin spent six years with that company before deciding to leave the corporate environment and establish a family-owned, client-centered business like his parents did in 1972.
Thus, he founded Service Champions in 2002.
Guided by these values, Kevin's company has grown to include more than 200 team members and has been in operation for 18 years.
Today, Service Champions caters to homeowners throughout the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay), South Bay, and Sacramento.
Kevin makes his home in Pleasanton, CA, alongside his wife and three children.

Zach came over for a regular maintenance check and tune up of our HVAC prior to the start of another winter. Service Champions installed our new heater and AC about 2 years ago. It was Zach's first visit to our home. I must admit that I have never had an HVAC tech that was more thorough than him. His attention to detail and desire to explain everything he discovered about our system following his inspection was unbeatable. For instance, he carefully explained that our expensive, state of the art, HVAC system did not have a circuit breaker protection. After hearing what could happen to our system, we decided to have the protection installed and Zach finished the work in less than 20 minutes, and we got the new circuit breaker unit for $45 off (more than 15%) with a coupon disclaimer that had been mailed to us as a Holiday gift. My wife and I were so impressed with the service provided that we have requested of Service Champions that Zach be our regular HVAC technician from now on. Great service at an unbeatable price. It doesn't get any better.

I'm updating my review. I will tell you, my experience with changing out the motherboard of our furnace took longer than expected, which happens. The technicians who came into my home were always very polite and courteous, but the overall lack of communication within the company was disheartening and extremely frustrating. All of that being said, the technician came out today, and after many phone calls to the higher-ups, was finally able to solve the issue. Michael was very apologetic for the lack of communication (even though it wasn't his responsibility). He explained everything well, including the issues that were encountered. I really appreciated him taking the time to do that. With that being said, I will give them another chance in the future if I have a problem with my heating or air.

After Service Champions reached out to me several times to schedule a seasonal ""Health Check"" of our 30ish year old HVAC system in my 68 year old house, the service technician showed up on time. So far so good, right?

Michael J. started inside the house with the furnace. He opened it up and poked around a bit and even took a few pictures with his phone. He made a bunch of chicken scratch notes on their colorful ""Home Health Report Card"". After a few minutes, he declared the furnace as ""Operational, but can't say for how long"".

He showed me the pictures of the inside of the furnace that he took with his phone. The images showed a lot of dust build up on the blower motor and the ""squirrel cage"" fan blades and housing. He explained that the dust build up was caused by the ""hermetically sealed blower motor leaking oil"". Oh my goodness! This can't be happening!

So I questioned the qualified service professional about that. I said it looks to me like normal dust build up one might expect after 30 years of accumulation without proper cleanings. I think you're wrong about the ""oil leak"" diagnosis. Especially since he didn't try to remove any dust or find any conclusive physical evidence of an oil leak. He became very defensive about me challenging his professional opinion.

Michael then moved outside to the A/C unit. After another 10 minutes or so, he came back in and measured the air temperature coming from a few air ducts around the house. ""20 degrees difference"" he declared ""which is what you might expect"". He finished his chicken scratches on his pretty report card and gave me the copy of his evaluation and he asked if I had any more questions.

I said, ""Back to this dust thing for a moment...do you offer to clean up the dust as part of this home health service?""

And he told me the ""blower motor would likely not survive removing it to clean it.""

I called BS at this point. How about if you clean it out...you know with a vacuum?

He was pretty uncomfortable now and he said I called him a ""liar"" a couple of times. I did not, by the way. He told me they would charge me $400 for a cleaning to remove the dust. But he made no mention of any cleaning service up until I questioned him about it.

That's the end of the road with me and Service Champions. I cancelled the automatic renewal of the annual service contract.

They get high marks for wardrobe and showing up on time. But they get an F for trying to BS people ( me ) into buying stuff I don't need or want.

I've been using service champions for about 5 years. I pay the monthly fee to be a MVP member. It's worth EVERY PENNY. They offer discounts on certain things, emergency services and help to remind you of annual inspections. Amber F. came out today and did our check up. She was knowledgeable, quick and most important, I felt like she was competent and had our best interest in mind. At her suggestion, I plan to have her come out and check the duct work as we have an older home. She took her time to talk about duct efficiency and all the things we can do to get our utility costs down. Highly recommend this company. With people like Amber representing, I'm happy to invest in them.

We had Steve Mee come to our home last week to check on our A/C unit that had quit working for a few days in this heat. He was very nice and cordial but
certainly missed the mark by a long shot. He said we'd have to replace the
entire HVAC system at a cost of around $20,000. He talked a lot but didn't
fix the problem & said it was beyond repair. We told him we had a Home
Warranty & had to check with them before moving forward. The Home Warranty Co. sent a different HVAC company out who fixed it in less than 15
minutes for no money out of pocket and it's running great now. I think Steve
Mee was more into selling a new HVAC system and we didn't appreciate the
huge upsell! Unfortunately, I would not recommend this company.
