Founded in the year 1961, when Leo F. Vellutini launched his contracting venture from his residence in Sacramento. By 1971, the firm rebranded as Royal Electric Company, becoming known for its exceptional service in small commercial, residential, and maintenance work. During the 1970s, the company experienced growth in multiple sectors such as multi-family developments, industrial construction, and public works. Frank Vellutini joined the company in 1974, Leo's child, and became a partner in 1977 when the firm incorporated as Vellutini Corporation dba Royal Electric Company. In the early 1980s, the partners added underground electrical work to their specialties. Beginning with underground utilities, street lighting, and traffic signals, Royal Electric soon expanded into additional niche underground sectors like airport runway lighting and highway projects.

Throughout the years, Frank Vellutini has prioritized maintaining the firm's dedication to customer service, quality, and particularly its relationships. The service department at Royal Electric Company still functions similarly to the firm did in 1971, and interestingly, still provides service to many of the same clients.
