The company began in 1961, when Leo F. Vellutini initiated his contracting operations from his house in Sacramento. By 1971, the firm rebranded as Royal Electric Company, establishing a name for itself in the realms of small commercial, residential, and maintenance services. During the 1970s, the company experienced growth in multiple sectors such as Multi-Family, Industrial, and Public Works Construction. In 1974, Leo's child, and in 1977, he partnered with his father when the firm incorporated as Vellutini Corporation doing business as Royal Electric Company. During the early 1980s, the partners expanded their expertise to include underground electrical work. Starting with underground utilities, street lighting, and traffic signals, Royal Electric Company quickly ventured into other unique underground markets such as airport lighting and highway construction.
Over the years, Frank Vellutini has emphasized the importance of maintaining the firm's dedication to customer service, quality, and particularly its relationships. Royal Electric Company still operates a service department today that resembles the company in 1971, and remarkably, continues to serve many of the same clients.

They believe in their employees and invest in each and everyone of them. I worked here for almost two years and loved it. Royal worked with us from the beginning to help with choosing the best option for replacement to ensure that the new lights were bright enough as well as most energy efficient. Jared was very responsive to all of our questions and needs and Leo has displayed amazing customer service and knowledge when it comes to anything electrical. Their installation crew was very experienced and their attention to detail really made a difference in the aesthetics of the lighting.The lights are amazing and work better than I could have imagined.
