The company began in 1961, when Leo F. Vellutini initiated his contracting operations from his house in Sacramento. In the year 1971, the firm rebranded as Royal Electric Company, becoming known for its exceptional service in small-scale commercial, residential, and maintenance projects. In the 1970s, the firm expanded in multiple sectors such as Multi-Family, Industrial, and Public Works Construction. In 1974, Frank Vellutini became part of the company, the son of Leo, and became a partner in 1977 when the firm incorporated as Vellutini Corporation dba Royal Electric Company. In the beginning of the 1980s, the partners broadened their focus to underground electrical services. Beginning with underground utilities, street lighting, and traffic signals, Royal Electric Company quickly ventured into additional niche underground sectors like airport lighting and highway construction.

As time passed, Frank Vellutini has emphasized the importance of maintaining the firm's dedication to customer service, quality, and particularly its relationships. Royal Electric Company still operates a service department today that resembles the company in 1971, and remarkably, continues to serve many of the same clients.
