I had preferred come out to my house on 1/5/17 because I had no hot water in my master bathroom shower and knew that my recirculating pump was making noise also so figured I needed a new pump. Had always had hot water issues in this shower when hot water was used in other areas of the 3 level house but had instant hot water everywhere else due to recirculation system. As soon as Mike L. came to the house my wife and I felt he was in sales mode to replace 80 gallon water heater that was 12 years old instead of just fixing issue. Pump and cartridge option was about $900 and new 50 gallon tank was about $2500 with recirculation pump and tankless was over $4000. Went with new tank option after much discussion with promise he would not charge for new cartridge in shower if it was still needed. Work was done on 1/6 by same technician and after it was done noticed recirculation was cut out of loop and pump was on main line with some loop under sink in top floor bathroom to loop back somehow. Discussed why with installer, Mike L., and he said this is what he discussed since we had issues of hot water in master bathroom from time house was built but neither my wife nor I understood this the prior day so don't know how we both could have missed this. Didn't make a big deal since he assured us it would work. After completed while he was still testing system we had a lot of trash coming out of faucets and said it would work its way out with time. Did not have trash in line prior to installation of new water heater system by them. Had hot water to shower but was not aware of new issues until later. While he was installing system asked why we didn't have a main water cutoff in garage for whole house so didn't have to go to meter out in yard. Offered to do for about $180. Since it appeared we didn't need cartridge in shower he offered to do cutoff instead and we agreed...took him less than 10 minutes to do this. After he left we went to dinner and was gone for a couple of hours only to return and have water leaking from water tank area across our garage floor for about 8-10 feet. Called their office back at about 8:30-9:00 Friday night and on call person was going to send lead plumber out to correct problem that night and he did come to house Friday night. Lead plumber had to take one connection apart and redo to stop leak. He noticed line was capped off and asked why that was done and I explained what Mike had done and he said he understood what was done after I explained loop under upstairs sink. Discussed trash in line with him and he said it should not be there but if it still was Monday or Tuesday give them a call and they would return. I waited until Thursday 1/12 to give plenty of time and during this time we had much reduced water pressure issues in master shower and it took 5-6 minutes to get hot water to shower. I called and asked for lead plumber to call me, he did and said he would call me back after discussing with Mike L. He did not call me back...Mike called and said we would need cartridge replaced and wanted to charge another $300 to replace this now. I said I was not paying that much when trash in line was caused by them which probably caused cartridge now and said I would call owner if I need to which he said I should. I called office spoke to and spoke with someone, addressed my concerns with the new charges since original issue was not fixed yet and they told me owner would call Mike, discuss work done and get back to me. It has been 6 days now and no one has called me yet! Mike L, the lead plumber and the on call person I spoke to Friday night with leak were very nice and thought I was dealing with a good company. Due to no return call from them for 6 days and with the issues I still have unresolved I have changed my mind and want no further dealings with them. I don't feel I was given the best advice and all Mike L could say was ""well you have had issues since it was built"". I never had to waste 5-6 minutes of water to get hot water to a shower and was not clearly told he was redoing my circulation system this way! Would not recommend this company to anyone unless you have them detail everything they are doing in writing.
I had Gary Petersen from Preferred Home Services out today to quote an install for my dishwasher. He was very thorough in what was needed to install my dishwasher. He was friendly, courteous, and took care to not track dust and dirt into the home. Unfortunately, they could not install my dishwasher because my home lacked a needed metal strip on the underside of my marble countertops. That said, I felt compelled enough to provide a review of Preferred's professionalism.
They are better than ""As good as it gets!"" I was thrilled by the timely, intelligent, efficient,clean,top notch service that was given to me by the scheduling and the professional (Gary Petersen - Plumbing) sent to my home. No room for improvement and I am bonded to them forever!
I am going through a difficult renovation and dismissed those involved. This company heard my tale of woe and immediately rose to the occasion. They also sent an HVAC representative to review and rescue us from a potentially bad situation. (another 5 star review to follow!)
The technician was great and extremely professional. The quality of work and the professionalism was first class. However, the job was a straight-forward installation of a replacement garbage disposal and I was charged $303.24. This seemed extremely high. Researching on-line tells me that this job should've cost $150-$200 max. Would not go back to these guys based on the exorbitant pricing.

I called in a request for a routine check on my home AC unit. I recently bought a house in North Charleston and just wanted to make sure everything was working OK. Joe just left the house and I was very impressed. From the moment I called in my request everything has been handled in a very friendly and professional manner. I got a call this morning to let me know a tech was on the way and Joe showed up right on time. He seemed knowledgeable and was very thorough in explaining everything about what he found and the current condition of my system. He just charged me for service visit and said everything was good, considering the age of my system. I would not hesitate to use Preferred again.
Not only does this 5-star rating reflect Home Preferred Services but also Travis as a Service Technician! He was AMAZING & went above & beyond his normal duties I'm sure to make me feel comfortable as a first-time home buyer to understand the process & service being provided / needed. I highly recommend Home Preferred Services because they are extremely flexible with making the time, even outside normal business hours, to schedule & provide GREAT SERVICE! I also highly recommend Travis as the Service Technician to come out & repair your HVAC repair service!
I spoke with Preferred and they 100% agreed that the situation had been handled wrong and offered me a full refund. Everyone agreed that situations like this happen sometimes and that it was a poor reflection on a business that normally strives to provide the best service for it's customers.
After speaking with the manager I feel confident that my next service call will be to Preferred.
I reached out to Chris and I'm glad I did. He was very professional, accepted responsibility for a pricing error, offered concessions for the inconvenience, and an appointment was scheduled for a few days later. Kyle and his assistant did a great job, the work was done efficiently, the new hood looks fantastic and I am a happy camper. If you're wondering if I crawled under the house again, to make sure the ductwork looked good, no... no I did not. :p
Besides excellent customer service, I always appreciate someone who is willing to take ownership. I'm confident if/when I ever have HVAC needs Preferred Services is on my very short list. This company does a lot very well (communication, efficiency, quality) from office personnel to field reps. Two thumbs up!
