PowerDown
Company Overview
PowerDown is dedicated to home electricity assessments to support homeowners identify the reasons behind their high electric bills and find methods to cut energy expenses. Each audit includes a detailed review of circuits and key appliances using energy consumption monitors, accompanied by a comprehensive written report that includes advice.
PowerDown was established to meet the demands of residents looking to lower utility expenses and reduce their carbon footprint. By assessing the state of the industry, it was apparent that numerous services existed for corporate clients to analyze and lower energy expenses, yet there was a lack of solutions for homeowners. Even in 2010, there existed not many options to understand their electricity usage in the household.
PowerDown was launched to address this gap and has discovered that it can frequently lower the monthly electricity bill by 10-20%. We partner with energy efficiency auditors, service providers, renewable energy installers, among others to provide clients a holistic approach to true energy savings.
PowerDown is led by Chris Hunt, our owner, a passionate advocate of alternative energy and energy efficiency. Before founding PowerDown, Chris spent a successful 25 years in the high-tech industry, serving in multiple leadership positions at Silicon Valley Bank, the software giant Adobe, along with Oracle Corporation in addition to several startups.

I called PowerDown after my electric bill had gone through the roof and we couldn't determine what was wrong. This was particularly annoying since I had both solar generation and solar hot water production. After Chris from PowerDown came out he discovered that my electric hot water heater was running constantly (bad solar water heating temperature sensor) and my hot water recirculation pump needed a timer. It's only been a week but my net daily kilowatt usage has dropped from over 40 kWh/day to under 10. The next bill will show a dramatic difference. Chris is well informed on power issues. He has stayed involved in the entire process of analysis and problem solution. I am very pleased.
Jenna V.We were in the process of renovating different areas of our house when we decided to address our large electric bills. We went through the online energy audit in Mountain View and because we were in our house less than a year we were led to PowerDown for an in-house audit. Chris from PowerDown came out, found where the energy hogs were and made recommendations. We replaced a number of ceiling flood lights and followed his other advice and dropped our bill $50 in one month from $205 to $155, a 24% reduction! He even came back and helped swap out some of our outlets and is incredibly responsive to any additional questions. I highly recommend this service.
Eric M.Chris from Power Down was great. I originally got his name from another home energy auditing company. They did not do the type of electrical auditing that Chris does. Chris came out to my house twice due to a rather unusual set up of my electrical panels. I initially thought I might be able to set up the TED 5000 to monitor my electrical consumption, but good thing I got him to do it, cause it turned out to be more complicated than I could have figured out. I am looking forward to my full audit report and using the TED 5000 to get a handle on why my bills have been so high. I had looked around quite a bit before callling Power Down, and I would recommend Chris to anyone in the same situation.
