My regular guy was on vacation so I used these guys to move an outlet that couldn't wait. They were three times the price, but what really bugs me is the endless calls now. They call me everyday to offer some package deal. Seriously. Everyday. I told them to stop. I'll never use them again now.
I had a couple of electrical concerns that I thought needed to be checked out. I had a truly positive experience with Mister Sparky eight years ago, and based on that, I called them in late July. I wish I had looked at some online reviews first before calling them this time. When the technician arrived I explained what I thought needed to be done, at which time he began his assessment of my electrical needs. After his initial assessment that I needed a complete panel replacement, he proceeded to tell me of other things that were required if I replaced the panel, then the next one required if I did the second one, and so on. He kept throwing in ""code"" and ""an inspector"" to support his proposal. By the time he was done, he was quoting a job that would cost almost $14000. And in all that he had not addressed the initial concern and the reason for my request for service. He said the job would take three days, and on the third day the power company would have to turn the power off for the job to be completed. He said that, at that time, he would ask the power company to check the line from the pole to my house, which would address the second concern I called about originally. A light bulb went off over my head at that moment, so to speak. After four hours of listening to his sales pitch, I paid him for a service call and told him I would think his estimate over. He had given the job a number, which was on the estimate he left with me.
The next morning I called the number listed for the Canton Rd, Marietta, Mister Sparky location. I asked the person who answered the phone if she was sitting in an office on Canton Rd, Marietta. She said no, that she was in a call center in the mid-west. How about that! I gave her the job number and told her that the job was never going to happen and asked her to make sure the folks on Canton Rd. in Marietta got the message. A couple of hours later, the technician/salesman called and left a message that he had talked to an inspector, and we could do just the panel replacement. Wait, what? No longer all those other jobs that are required??
Then I called the power company. and they had a service technician here in 20 minutes. He diagnosed my initial concern easily, looking at parts of my overall electrical system that the Mr. Sparky technician never looked at. Then he gave me some referrals for an electrician to do exactly what was needed. The actual fix cost less than $2000, and the work was done in less than four hours. Mister Sparky became so focused on a panel replacement, and all the other services that he claimed would go along with it, that he never checked for the most obvious reason for the problem that needed to be addressed. Let's see - - three days and $14000 and the actual problem not fixed or four hours and less than $2000 and the problem is fixed?
Needless to say, my 2016 experience with Mister Sparky was not at all like my 2008 experience. I cannot recommend them to anyone who needs electrical work in their home. They are full of malarkey, no matter what their jingle says.
Mister Sparky is a huge rip off. Yesterday morning, a tree fell on the electrical wires coming into my home pulling the wires out. Georgia Power cleared away the limbs and recommended I get an electrician out to pull the wires back into my attic, attach them back to my house and make sure there's no break in the wires still left in the attic. I called Mister Sparky. Two employee's showed up at my home. Justin, who said he is the local office manager, asked to see the meter. He quickly informed me he's being doing this for 20 years and assured me my insurance company would take care of the cost. After asking the number of bedrooms in my home and the county I live in, he proceeded to the attic to check the wires. He then asked to see the circuit breaker panel. He then worked out and presented the quote...$10,545.00 and would take 4 days to complete the job. He wanted me to quickly sign the quote to proceed with the work.
A friend who was over, questioned the quote and Justin insisted my house is not up to current code and the only way Georgia Power would restore my electricity would be if I brought my house to current code (changing out the electronic meter, circuit breaker panel, all wires coming into the house, adding additions smoke detectors throughout my house even though he did not go around and see what smoke detectors I currently have). My friend suggested I get a 2nd quote as well as contact my insurance company. Justin got irate started throwing attitude and said there was no need to call my insurance company, that it would definitely be covered and he would provide all paperwork to file the claim. Said he could give me 18-month interest free finance but I would receive payment from my insurance company in 2-3 weeks. As far as a 2nd opinion, he said I can certainly get it cheaper by getting some John Doe who doesn't know what he's doing wrap tape around the wires and call it a day...that was my business. When I asked why he was throwing attitude, he said my friend called him a lair (which he didn't) and that things were going well till my friend opened his mouth. He then said things went south and he realize I will not call him to do the repairs after I get additional quotes.
I called an independent licensed, insured and bonded electrician for a 2nd opinion who said the exact same thing Georgia Power said...that I just needed the wires pulled back in, attached to the house with an I-bolt and have the wires checked in the attic...total cost $350.00 and could be completed in about an hour or so. He did the work and Georgia Power had the electricity restored about an hour later. The independent electrician also let me know if he did all the work Mister Sparky quoted, total cost would have been $5,000.00 at most.
WAY expensive! $270 to replace an outlet...30 minutes of work. The technician told me up front that it would cost $270 just to diagnose the problem. Rip off!
So they came out and after a little more than 1 hour we agreed on a, higher than what I wanted to pay, fee to rewire my electric wiring to support my new appliance. I bought a super duty heavy wattage microwave with convection oven. My wiring would not support it and Mister Sparky did the job. The sales rep/repairman is what got me to do it. I think his name was Daniel from Romania. Great guy. They need to hire more like him. We actually sat down and read Yelp reviews on his company together. He did not know they were so, so bad with no replies from the company. He was so patient and understanding and explained my options thoroughly I had no choice but to hire him. The fundamentals are key here. Listen to your customer. Empathize with them. Explain their options and possible workarounds. Guide them on the best solution. Price with discount helps. Quality work, who can find? I did. So far. So good, but man I put him through the ringer. Thank you Daniel from Romania
Rip off. I'm very disappointed. Their commercials make them seem so nice. You don't have to put up with any malarky call xxxxxxx call sparky my BUTT! I called them just now. I have either a bad breaker or a bad water heater. I wanted to explain the symptoms over the phone to them but the person who answered the phone refused to let me speak with anyone. They are instructed to set up an appointment.... I may not have needed an appointment. They simply want to get your money. STAY AWAY FROM Mr. Sparky. Take your business elsewhere.
I had Mr. Sparky come out to check an outlet that had gone bad. The electrician reset the GFCI outlet next to my panel and the outlet started working after that. He pulled the cover off my panel and then told me that I had a serious issue and that the whole panel needed to be replaced. The estimate was $4000.00 for everything that needed to be done and he urged me to do it right away because he said it's a huge fire hazard given the condition of my electrical panel. I called two other licensed electricians to come out and check my panel, both said everything was fine and there was no issue at all. I've left two messages with Mr. Sparky and no one has called me back to discuss this. Judging by all the comments on this page, it seems like recommending a full panel replacement is the standard recommendation with this company. Take your business elsewhere.
The tech got paid to look up at my ceiling. I was charged $90 for tech to come out. Chandelier cost $250 tech wants to charge $600 to put up.?????? You do the math.
The worst service I ever used. they made me feel very bad. I just need back out my power. They open the panel box, did not do any inspection, ask me replace the whole box for $10,000. The problem only set main breaker to the right position and power back on. I will never call them again.
I have a rental property and my property manager suggested Mr. Sparky come out to fix an electrical problem I was having with some outlets not working. They came out and said that my electrical panel busbar was melted and I needed a new panel and that it would cost $5000. I decided to get a 2nd opinion which was when I called another company to come out and take a look at it. They took a look at the panel and said that everything looked great but that I had 2 bad breakers that needed to be replaced. He went out there knowing that the prior company had said the panel was bad and could have easily over sold me but he was honest and I really appreciated that. I then asked him out of curiosity if he were to replace my electrical panel how much it would cost and he said $1800. So not only did Mr. Sparky flat out lie about the repair needed he also quoted me $3200 higher than what it should have been.
