Mammoth Handyman
Company Overview
Once Mammoth Handyman, I focus on basic home repairs, upgrades, and enhancements. Now, I hold my electrical contracting certification and plan to concentrate more on both residential and commercial electrical projects.
I enrolled in WECA, an electrical apprenticeship program, knowing very little about building trades. During the five-year training in commercial and residential electrical work, I gained extensive knowledge in all aspects of electrical work. Alongside this, I observed other trades, inquired, and gained insights through trial and error.
I completed the five-year apprenticeship as scheduled in 2010, despite I was short on hours due to the economic downturn in 2009, which led to a two-year slowdown.
I became frustrated of being the junior member on the totem pole. Not wanting to travel for extended durations, I faced layoffs whenever business dipped. So, I made the decision to create my own path. Whenever I faced a layoff, I started making moves to establish my own company and nurture it to grow. It was thriving, but I was presented with too many requests for jobs above the $500 threshold (the maximum allowed for a handyman license), and insufficient jobs under that amount. As a result, I reduced the handyman business and worked towards obtaining my electrical contracting license.
