Hydes has been providing air conditioning installation and service since 1985. However, Brian Hyde founded the company as an appliance repair service in Orange County back in 1972. Due to a significant number of clients with second residences in Palm Desert, he launched another Hydes branch in that area.

Michael Hyde serves as the general manager at Hyde's, overseeing daily operations alongside his brothers, Barry and Mark. Michael has been part of Hyde's since it opened its doors in 1972. As a teenager, he began by answering phones and handling paperwork.
Michael earned his business degree from Cal State Fullerton in 1981. Alongside his background in accounting, Michael holds NATE certification, enhancing his role in our company.

Hydes came and did our installation of 2 x 4 tons aircon. units without fuss or bother.
We are yet to live with the new installation but we found the company responsive, attentative to our needs and timely with all dealings.

The ac in my home quit the other day and I called three company's for repair estimates. Steve at hydes was by far the most reasonable and knowledgeable. He fixed the problem and I was up and running in no time. I would not hesitate to use our recommend Steve again. Thanks

Update: Mr Hyde's answer filled in information I was unaware of. It seems we both are victims in this case, & I retract the negative comments made. My prior dealings with hydes air conditioning have all been satisfactory, & I have been treated quite well. Please disregard my one star rating.

Hyde's just replaced our (15 yrs. old) HVAC equipment and not only is it a relief to have A/C again but also to have been so well-served by this company. I called them upon arrival at our (uh-oh, no air) Rancho Mirage (second) home on a Friday midday and Jeff, their first-responder technician was there within 2 hrs. to check things out and deliver the not-surprising diagnosis - DOA. A temporary replacement unit was installed and owner Mike took detailed measurements (not just area but windows, noted sun exposures, location of vents, etc.) and compiled a report summarizing what equipment would meet our specific home and needs. The installation early the following week went smoothly - including drywall repair for attic-access enlargement - and cleanup also.
Service was outstanding - attention to detail, completely upfront about system and equipment requirements, costs, rebates, guarantees. Everyone we interacted with on the phone and in our home was professional, approachable, efficient but unhurried and obviously accustomed to dealing with overheated people in a calm, friendly way.

Great experience! Recently used them to recharge my refrigerator freon as it wasn't maintaining temperature. They did it at near half the cost of another competitor - so I was happy.
Family run business - friendly - showed up on time - solved the problem - great prices.

Friday May 9, 2014 my air conditioner stopped working around 5:30 PM. Guests were arriving Sat afternoon. Called neighbors to ask for recommendations. Called Hyde's at 6 PM. Technician came out around 7 PM. Completed an analyses; dead compressor and 1997 unit could not be fixed. Temperatures were expected to rise on the weekend. There was a unit available but no one to install until following week. Casey, the tech, ended up removing the old units that evening (did not finish until 8:50 PM) and came back the following day to install the HVAC system by himself. By 3 PM the Sat I had a new unit ($2500 rebate due). On the following Monday the system was tested for vent leaks, I had my manual and forms for applying for the rebate. Oh, and I received a $10 gift card for Cold Stone Ice Creamery and a canvas grocery bag as a thank you. But the real thanks goes to Hyde's. I highly recommend them.

Hydes technician, Jeff, came at 5:30PM on a Saturday (day before Easter) and looked at my AC unit which had stopped cooling that morning. He found the unit was flat with freon. He was able to refill and get my system up and running in about an hour.
He was an honest and straightforward representative of the company. He explained that it is likely there is a leak in the system, and if so, this recharge would only last until it leaked out again. I understood and asked for the charge anyway, as my animals could not tolerate the 100° heat until a leak was fixed or a new system installed.
Jeff was also able to give me quotes on a new system for my house, both the equivalent to what I have as well as an appropriately-sized system for my square footage.
It should be noted that there was no ""emergency charge"" or ""double-time/overtime"" billing from this company, even though my request was for evening service on the weekend. In looking for someone to fix this problem, I called two other vendors, only one of which returned my call even though they advertised 24/7 service. The one that did return my call would have wanted more than double what I ended up paying Hydes.
I know there are some negative reviews here, but anyone who follows me, or reviews my history on yelp, will know that I am not someone who easily exaggerates on good and fair service.
I will seriously consider Hydes as I make the decision to install a new system in the coming weeks.

usually only use companies that have been referred to me...so, that's why I used Hyde's in the first place... Wish I would have seen their Yelp rating first... The person who referred them to me has also been notified of their actions & negligence...
Hyde's messed up royally... The tech went over & just took a glance at the AC unit without inspecting it and said that we would need a new AC unit all because it was frozen...does that make sense? They didn't bother to actually inspect it when it actually defrosted...they just expected that I was going to spend thousands of dollars after they glanced at the unit & said it needs to be replaced...heck no! What audacity!
The thing that really ticked me off was that the technician told my tenants that the AC needed to be replaced & planted that seed in their heads...Fortunately, I have level headed tenants who know that I take care of things promptly when it needs to be taken care of...I was their customer, not my tenants...Hyde's & technician knew this in advance...so, why say something unnecessary to someone not authorized to make decisions???
...also, I asked them not to come back the next day because they were insistent that the unit needed to be replaced...YET, they still came over the next day & replugged the AC in & caused it to refreeze AGAIN...setting the repair & cleaning job back another day as it took many hours to unfreeze again... WORST EXPERIENCE EVER...
Oh, and then the icing on the cake was that they charged my CC on file for that second trip that I told them not to go to.... I should charge them for the inconvenience that my poor tenants had to endure without air for several days!

Hyde's has been servicing my AC/Heating since 1997. I'm very happy to recommend their services. I have the 6month service plan on my Condo in Palm Springs. I'm always impressed with the level of professionalism I receive from my technician and the office staff. I really don't worry about my AC/Heat because I know that I'm well taken care off. I try to support small business and I know the Hyde family is proud of their service. I'm a very satisfied customer.
