Hydes has been providing air conditioning installation and service since 1985. Brian Hyde originally started the business as an appliance repair shop in Orange County in 1972. Recognizing that many clients owned second homes in Palm Desert, he opened a second Hydes location there.

Michael Hyde serves as the general manager at Hyde's, overseeing daily operations alongside his brothers, Barry and Mark. He has been with Hyde's since its inception in 1972. He started as a teenager, taking calls and managing files.

He graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 1981 with a degree in business. In addition to his accounting expertise, Michael is a NATE certified technician, making him a valuable asset to our team.

usually only use companies that have been referred to me...so, that's why I used Hyde's in the first place... Wish I would have seen their Yelp rating first... The person who referred them to me has also been notified of their actions & negligence...

Hyde's messed up royally... The tech went over & just took a glance at the AC unit without inspecting it and said that we would need a new AC unit all because it was frozen...does that make sense? They didn't bother to actually inspect it when it actually defrosted...they just expected that I was going to spend thousands of dollars after they glanced at the unit & said it needs to be replaced...heck no! What audacity!

The thing that really ticked me off was that the technician told my tenants that the AC needed to be replaced & planted that seed in their heads...Fortunately, I have level headed tenants who know that I take care of things promptly when it needs to be taken care of...I was their customer, not my tenants...Hyde's & technician knew this in advance...so, why say something unnecessary to someone not authorized to make decisions???

...also, I asked them not to come back the next day because they were insistent that the unit needed to be replaced...YET, they still came over the next day & replugged the AC in & caused it to refreeze AGAIN...setting the repair & cleaning job back another day as it took many hours to unfreeze again... WORST EXPERIENCE EVER...


Oh, and then the icing on the cake was that they charged my CC on file for that second trip that I told them not to go to.... I should charge them for the inconvenience that my poor tenants had to endure without air for several days!

I'm always impressed with the level of professionalism I receive from my technician and the office staff. I really don't worry about my AC/Heat because I know that I'm well taken care off. I've been a customer of Hydes for the last few years. They've been taking care of my aging AC unit at my rented condo in Palm Springs every 6 months on their service plan.

When the unit finally died, Hydes arranged and installed a new unit in July. That seemed to go well. However, later on, I discovered that I paid for a 4-ton unit, but Hydes installed a 3-ton unit (roof installation - not easy to see it). If I hadn't noticed and complained Hydes would've kept the extra money. Then I got a call about the city inspection. I told the person on the phone at Hydes to please call my renter to arrange for the city permit sign-off inspection....just like every other visit Hydes had arranged with my renter over the previous 2+ years. Month's go by and just 8 weeks before the permit expires, I get something in the mail from Hydes saying that I get to handle scheduling the city inspection because I haven't been returning any calls (which I never got, aside from the first one). The letter they send to me is addressed as : Dear Ms. Reese. (not my name), so clearly a form letter. I'm in SF, so this is a problem. My renter is in the process of moving out, so I ask our friendly neighbor to help. He schedules the city inspector and she comes out but needs a ladder (to get to the roof). So he runs around the complex looking for the gardener's ladder and gets it. Only to find it is a few feet short. So he arranges for a longer ladder to be rented for the next day and to be delivered early in the morning...which it is. And then we find out that Hydes has damaged the roof during the installation (they had to cut out some foam roof to remove the old unit, but didn't tell anyone about the damage). So we fail the city inspection. Now I have to manage this roof repair process from SF too (which at least Hydes agreed to pay for).

The final insult was my a new renter moves in and the heat doesn't work. So the new renter has to last through a very cold December weekend with no heat, waiting for a gas valve replacement on a Monday evening, on a $7K new heater/AC unit.

I get a call from Barry Hydes during this process and the first thing he says is ""I haven't read your e-mail"". In other words, he doesn't care about my concerns. And I get no apology from Mr. Hydes. He had a very insolent attitude.

Recently I had to get a 10-year old AC unit at another property in Palm Springs checked out and I hired GM Air on a friends recommendation. They were terrific. I will use GM Air from now on.

We have never received such poor customer service! Not only were the three different technicians extremely rude, late and incompetent - they never fixed the problem with our A/C unit or performed the actual service, but did leave us with an $800 invoice. We ended up having to call another company to come out. The technician was not only pleasant, but found and fixed the problem within a half hour, including actually performing of our unit.

I strongly discourage using Hyde's for any type of service.

They have stood behind and serviced units they installed over 10 years ago. Always reliable, professional and will be there when you need them. Recently I had a problem that American Home Shield and their people couldn't fix. Hydes was here to diagnose and fix it even after hours so I wouldn't be without ac. Mike the owner was on the phone to make it happen, and Steve did a great job fixing it. Thank you!

They talk a good game and have a decent product, but don't count on ANY service and if you want the rebate from SCE that they brag about, you will be waiting a very long time and have to do all the leg work yourself, while they lie to you that it is is in process. They also don't follow through with referrals. I can not recommend them at all.

This company had been servicing this home for years before we bought it. A condensation problem occurred almost instantly which resulted in leaks through the ceiling. We initially called Hyde's and all they recommended was raising the units for greater gravity flow. They blew out the lines and charged $145.

Our home warranty assigned a company when leaks returned a few days later and they resolved the issue lickity split. The drain line was kinked and there were two traps when only one was needed. Don't you think this company would have caught this problem?
