Homebodies Total Home Repair was excellent. I was quoted a rough estimate over the phone, and the work came in at the estimate price (actually, since writing this, Mike realized a pricing mistake and adjusted the bill and refunded some of the cost -- a great price got even better! Truly an honest man), which I had feared might actually go up since a lot of the conditions in which the work was being done was unknown (I had never been in the crawlspace at this house to provide any feedback on its condition). Mike was thorough in his work, in this case I needed networking cable pulled through our crawlspace to connect 3 rooms to our network where wireless was less than ideal. While Mike does not himself do networking, he was understanding of my knowledge and if there were any concerns he was more than willing to discuss them so that he understood the why and how of my requests. The same applied if I was curious about what or how he was doing something.

I suppose I could break the entire encounter down better, when I called to request a quote and see about scheduling an appointment, I was greeted by a voice on the other end saying something akin to, ""This is Mike."" This was a little confusing and after a few pointed questions that was resolved and we began discussing what I was looking for and what time frame he was available during. Initially we agreed on everything and he was going to come out the next morning. However, poor planning on my part (one of the rooms was in no condition to work in, and I was not aware of this until later that evening), and a timely SMS from Mike asking if he could come in later in the day, after a little bit of back and forth over text message we reached the agreement that he would come out two days later instead, a huge boon for me since I had to clean up and rearrange one of the rooms so that there was actually room to work in the areas Mike would need to access.

Fast-forward two days, I am up early getting last minute things done before Mike arrived to take care of our cables and to my surprise (not 1 company we have worked with since moving to California has actually arrived on time) right at 8am (he only schedules appointments this early if requested by the customer) I hear a knock on the door. After a quick tour of the rooms in need of work, Mike got started. The initial prep work went pretty quick and soon Mike was ready to brave the crawlspace.

Unfortunately, the crawlspace ended up being a nightmare, but Mike did not let that stop him. The crawlspace work alone ended up taking longer that I expected the entire process to take but, with every difficulty that cropped up (unexpected battery dieing, navigating the space being almost impossible, etc, etc, Mike always had a quick (as quick as one can be in a dusty, cramped crawlspace) and reasonable solution.

Now I did work very closely with Mike during this process, since he was just roughing the cable spots in and I would be finishing the cables and putting the wall plates in myself. Personally I do not mind this, I like that I was able to be more involved with the process and knew exactly what was going on and why. Obviously this couldn't be the case with all tasks and all companies, but I am definitely appreciative of the fact that it was possible in this case.

In the end, I could not recommend Mike enough to anyone looking for a friendly handyman that is confident, professional and rather importantly, punctual. I will definitely keep Mike and Homebodies Total Home Repair on my short list for the next time I need help on my next home project.

Backstory: when MY mother was coming to visit, I didn't want her to see (i.e. KNOW) that I'd been leaving the house in disrepair. I'd let things accumulate over time and only at the last minute did I call Michael to do a handful of tasks around the house.

Not only did he make himself available after hours for us, but he took care of everything immediately before she could ever see what a rotten daughter she raised. He never made me feel that he was in a hurry or that my after-hours work was inconveniencing him. That is a huge plus to me.

Had some electrical work that needed to be done on the house (some plugs were out). It took him 3 days to try to figure what was wrong. During that time, parts of the house had no electricity because he was testing or trying to figure out what was wrong. He came and said several times that he was done, but there were other parts of the house with no electricity, which seemed to surprise him.
He did not know what he was doing, wasted my time, stressed me out since I had a newborn in the house with no electricity for large amounts of time. I would have not given an absolutely poor review until he was rude about me (to my husband) and to my mother in law afterwards when I refused to pay him what he attempted to bill me for work that was incomplete. Given that I had to call an electrician to fix the problem (which took them all of 10 mins to diagnose, then an hour or so to get the part), I was not going to pay Michael for the full amount of a job that he that took him days and then somehow caused cascading electrical shutdown in my house. He had seemed like a nice guy (until he was unprofessional), but electrical work is definitely over his head.

I have hired Michael for a few different handyman jobs at our condo, including door/window treatments and installing a temporary wooden structure for our balcony.

I have been impressed by his work on many fronts. He was organized, and did a good job communicating with me about the work and what it entailed. In each case he worked efficiently, and completed the job in the amount of time estimated. I felt the price was reasonable for what I asked him to do.

He is pleasant to work with and stands behind his work--he made sure I was happy with the results and told me I could call him back later if adjustments needed to be made.

It's good to have a handyman on call that you feel comfortable with. I will definitely call on Homebodies again.

Homebodies has done plumbing, electrical, fencing work for me and I have been happy with the quality, price and honesty displayed by them each and every time. Michael Lerner works exceedingly hard and charges a very reasonable price for his labor. It is hard to find someone with a combination of integrity and skill such as he exhibits. I will hire him again.
