1. open permit on $12,000 ac system as of 6/22/2020. ac system originally installed, november 2019. failed 2 county inspections so far. latest failed county inspection was in march of 2020.
2. incomplete service from 06/16/2020. service call set up a week ahead of time. was supposed to change my hepa filter which cost $85 dollars. however, service tech had wrong size. no response or follow-up provided as of today, 6/22/20. home is stuffy, humid, and i fear negatively affecting my ac system

Needed a quote on a back up generator for our small manufactured home. During a world wide pandemic & entering a 55+ community, the technician showed up with no mask & no shoe coverings even though he needed to walk through our house. Receptionist said they offer NO cash discounts. Technician then proceeded to hand us a company postcard which stated 10% off cash purchases. They then tried to up sell us on a bigger unit than needed. After all is said & done we're going with a different company whose quote is $4,800 cheaper!!!! Stay away.

EJ was my technician that came to service my 11 year old unit. EJ was extremely professional and knowledgeable. It was such a pleasure to work with a technician that takes his time, does not upsell and values the clients time.
Highly recommend EJ and Hoffman Electrical for all of your needs. The HVAC team is phenomenal!

Johnny Molesworth was great. He went above and beyond and was very friendly. We are having a bathroom remodel and his work was outstanding. He finished the job and was timely and flexible with our requests. Thank you, Hoffman Electric and Johnny! We highly recommend Johnny and Hoffman Electric!

We needed the seven smoke alarms in our home replaced, so I googled the matter this past week and discovered Hoffman Electrical in Tampa, FL. They sent out a technician and an assistant the same day, who met with my wife and quoted her $1200 for the job. My wife had me speak to the tech on the phone, so I asked him why it was so expensive and he stated ""that's what it costs to get us to go up on our ladders"". He also said that two of the detectors needed to be upgraded to allow for carbon monoxide detection as well as smoke. I knew they were all ""hard wired"" together and assumed that there must be some sort of ""re-wiring"" that needed to be done or upgraded (I no longer believe that was the case). I freely admit that they did the job and did it well. However, once I got home and my wife told me how quickly they completed the job, I became curious. Their invoice reflects that two smoke/carbon monoxide detectors were installed at $175.00 per ($350 total) and that five smoke detectors were replaced for a price of $649.00 (that comes out to $129.80 per). I later got up on my own ladder and removed one of each of the two types of detectors and took photos of the model numbers (First Alert smoke detector model no.: SC9120B and Kidde combo smoke/CO alarm model no.: KN-COSM-IBA). I just finished researching the online cost of both units (Home Depot and Lowes) and learned that the First Alert units sell for $47.98 per and the Kidde units sell for $35.51 per. Their invoice, in addition to the $350 and the $649 charges, reflects a charge of $200 for what is described only as ""electrical apprentice"" (no further explanation).
While I cannot say they did not do a good job, I do, however, feel that I paid significantly more for the job than should have been charged. Notwithstanding the $200 ""electrical apprentice"" fee, by my calculation the detectors were marked up from a total retail cost of $335.86 to $999.00 (a difference of $663.14 or 190%). Setting aside the ""electrical apprentice"" fee (whatever that is), and allowing for a reasonable ""cost"" markup per detector, it seems like a lot to pay for someone to hang seven smoke detectors.
All in all, I take full responsibility for this matter and can only say that I've owned my own business for over 35 years and that I've never taken advantage of a client. That's probably why I've had some of my clients for over 30 years. I can't really say that I will ever be Hoffman Electric's customer again.
Signed,
ONE AND DONE

This was an absolute shame, and I feel obligated to let the public know of our experience. We had Hoffman install our generator 2 years ago and do a few repairs since that time so we are not new to the company. Last week, we had requested for a quote on a 2,400' ft home's duct work. Our AC is only 2 years old but the duct work is approx 25 years old. We had a tech, Major, come out to the house to give an estimate. He quoted an astounding $10,550 for the quote and would take several men to do the job over a 3 days to complete. We were so taken aback that we called 3 other AC companies and 2 contractors. The highest bid came back at $3,025 with the other two at $2,800 and $2,900.00. We went with the $2,900 and they completed in 1 day (6 hours) / 3 men AND replaced all of the vents (Major stated his quote did not include that.) I called up Hoffman to discuss the quotes and give them the chance to explain. When I talked to Brian, he justified the quote by stating the following 3 comments (which made the situation worse): ""the job was going to be a nightmare"", ""we did not really want to do the job"", and ""it was small access areas / work areas."" My response back to him was why would you not tell me that vs taking the price up by almost 4 times the dollar amount and 3 times the amount of time. Brian did not have a response besides if someone else wants to do the job, have them do it. I subsequently hung up and will not be doing business with Hoffman Electrical. This is beyond disappointing and only the 2nd review that I have written up in 30 years of redoing / updating homes. My hope is that others get 2nd / 3rd opinions and Hoffman does not treat another customer in the same egregious manner as we were treated.

This company is a rip off. I just got a quote for an electrical panel to be replaced and they want to charge almost $2000.00. The panel being replaced is your normal run of the mill panel. Almost 200 to replace a GFI outlet. I would not use this company.

Our company requested service on a non functioning parking pole light. The appointment was made with those instructions (obviously) but the electrician who was dispatched was not told he needed a bucket truck. That's serious mismanagement and waste of our time. We still had to pay for the service call and told that to bring a bucket truck out was a flat $675.00. That's insane.
Not recommended.

JD was outstanding. I liked the quality of his work so much I called the company back to do more projects the very same week. I highly recommend this company!

First off, ultimately I did not use their service. This is more about their quotes and scare tactics. I accidentally bought a 220volt (only) pool pump on Amazon, so instead of returning it, I figured I would just get it hooked up, but I only have 110v running to the current pump. This guy came in and said it would cost around a 1000 to run the line from my pump to the panel... okay, more than I wanted to spend, but if that's what it costs, okay. Then he gets to the breaker panel and says it's really really old, and these kinds of panels go up in fire all the time, etc... There's new codes out there and this panel isn't to code, also he said the panel didn't have the capacity to go to 220. So he quoted me like 5 grand for that panel replacement with more capacity. Now I'm just listening, as there's no shot of me spending that for a pool pump! We go outside, and he looks at that panel... whoops, the outside panel needs to be changed out too... it would be like 3500. I think when it was all said and done, the final quote was somewhere in the neighborhood of 9 - 11 thousand. Again, just for me to be able to put in a pool pump.
Some of the tactics he used:
- scare (fire, not to code)
- quality of life (why wait to upgrade this for someone else to enjoy, do it now and I can enjoy it)
- technical talk (lots of that, I'm not an electrician, so he could have told me I need a new johnson-rod and I would have been like, okay)
- chain/domino effect (he can't add the pool line until the breaker box is replaced, and then the outside break box would also have to be replace)
So I'm not calling their actual service into question, just their sales techniques.
