I'm renovating and repairing the house my parents moved into in 1958, so I can sell it. My dad wasn't a handyman, so he either ' ""got by"" or hired a friend to do needed repairs. Suffice to say it was an unsafe, obsolete, unpermitted electrical mess. I want it safe and looking good for the market. I certainly don't want to electrocute the next owners! I wanted a licensed electrician, and permits. So I get two estimates. Gentec (found on Angie's list) seems a little pricey but is very professionally presented. Everything that needs upgrading is itemized, the price clearly stated in contract form. The second guy is nuts, even though he had glowing reviews on Yelp. He says what he will do, writes a few items in pencil on a piece of scrap paper. Doesn't even address the safety concerns. But he is cheap!
We wanted quality, so went with Gentec, and were so glad we did. Luis is a gem: young, but boy does he know his stuff! He rips out the dangerous old stuff, upgrades the panel and subpanel, makes it look like a precise work of wire art. Even the city inspector was impressed with the neat work. Now we have ground, GFI, properly connected wires. I can sell this house with a clear conscience and not worry about killing anyone.
In summary, Gentec is fast, professional, and I would highly recommend them.

After calling several elections in my area I contacted Gentec Services and spoke with Gia. She was outstanding with excellent communication skills. I set an appointment and the rest is history. The tech service from Nick was also great. Very knowledgeable and had everything to complete the job in a very reasonable amount of time. Not to mention the price was very fair! I would highly recommend Gentec Service to all my friends and family.

I am happy with work wise but estimation went wrong. first person came, looked at electric panel and provided estimates which I felt was fair. City of pleasanton charges 90 $ for permit, these guys charged me 400$ just for permits.

On day of work, new people arrived and said earlier estimates were wrong and scope of work has increased and actual cost went much higher. I am not sure if first person's estimates were right or later but did not feel everything right.

I had to get it done on urgent basis so paid much higher cost. I am sure there are other contractors who are reasonable.

Wow! What a wonderful job these guys did. Nick was so helpful making sure I got the right product and got my rebate from pge. They were wonderful and would recommend to anyone!

The company that I work for has been using Gentec for all of our server room HVAC work for just over a year now & we could not be more pleased with their service. These guys are professional, responsive and knowledgeable. They also did an excellent job installing a power supply for an electric car & completely renovated, repaired and cleaned up the duct work at my home.

Be careful if your women. They will take advantage of you. Had work done with them. I had a fountain outlet that wasn't getting any power to run the pump. The guy went on about how difficult it was to do. He gave my a estimate of $240. He finished in less than 20 mins. He didn't replace anything, just moved some wires around. My husband was so mad. How was I suppose to know. You expect a local company to be honest. I would never use them again & I will tell my friends to stay away.

Honestly, I have no idea how this company got any stars at all. Their customer service was rude and completely unhelpful. They didn't listen to to anything I asked, and they were completely incompetent. I'd recommend passing and finding another firm. #dissatisfied!!!

Don't expect your apointment time to be honored.

I had an extremely frustrating interaction with Gentec services. First they canceled their first two appointments on short notice (both on the day they were scheduled).
Then the technician that showed up said, 'he wasn't the right person to do the work' -- even though I'd both emailed a detailed description of the work that was needeed and followed that up with a phone call prior to the appointment.' Tteh technician said, the work I needed couldn't be done. At which point I looked up the work on the internet which showed him a step by step process for how to do it.

So then Gentec said they would send out the technician with the required knowledge on the following Monday at 3:00 PM. They then called Monday morning (again the day of the appointment - they don't seem organized enough to plan ahead to provide the customer with notice), to say they didn't know how to do the work.

If they don't know how to do something, that's fine. Just say so up front. (even though the work I needed was fairly easy and I was able to find another provider to do it),

What I don't appreciate is their missing 3 straight appointments before telling me that.

If you have endless time to wait and reschedule appointments and then hope you happen to get one of their ""knowledgeable"" technicians, this is the company for you. You may also want to look up how to do the work on the internet, so their technician can reference that once they arrive at your house.

Called these folks last weekend to set up an appointment for today at a target time of 1:00 p.m., with an overall window of 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., to install ceiling fans in my daughters' rooms because the AC is not enough to keep them from just about dying from the heat. Set up an appt with a related contractor for same time frame to deal with some work in the garage so only had to open the house for a minimum time. Other contractor showed up and did what he was to do. Time for appt today with Gentec came & went. No call, no text message. Called Gentec and after many rings it kicked over to a message system. I talked with a man who said he had no information about my appointment but would ask someone to call me. About 40 minutes later a man called who said he had no appt for me. Bad enough. But then he said (and kept repeating) ""since it wasn't a regularly scheduled appt. there's not much I can do,"" and that just makes it worse.

Not sure if this is an atypical experience, but from a diamond certified company, I expect at least some contrition for just completely blowing me off. Add to that the guy could only suggest I call back Monday and set up another appt. (rather than manning up and fixing his mistake now) and I can't see a single reason to give them a second chance.

I guess my daughters continue to have to swelter. Thanks Gentec.

Small job, quickly taken care of.
I'm impressed with how quickly Gentec returned my call, made an appointment, and took care of the loose wiring. The problem was minor and they treated it as such, not turning a minor job into a major re-wiring project. I appreciate their honesty, work ethic, and competitive prices. I'll definitely use them if I need an electrician in the future.
