When I called for an electrician and Michael manibusan arrived he was very polite and most of all approachable. When I need an electrician in the future I will ask if Michael manibusan can serve me from cool today energy today, thanks mike

My mailbox/lamp needed to be connected electrically by the lamp, so I really needed the job done and when Alberto showed up by himself which I was informed this was going to take two people, so the other electrician hadn't shown up yet either, late about 30 minutes I was not happy but I've waited two weeks to get this work done. Alberto did the job by himself because he said it didn't need two people, I was glad because the second electric didn't show up until a few hours later, I also hope we don't have any more problems with the lamp. The mailbox kept tripping and the last time the gfi wouldn't reset so that's why Alberto was here today. If not for Alberto showing up late he would have gotten five stars because I'm big on punctuality. If I have to wait two weeks to get my mailbox lamp connected the least I can get on time performance. Thanks energy today for sending Alberto, I will definitely have him over again

We needed a water heater installed. When I asked what their hourly rate was, I was told that there wasn't one, but the plumber would tell us what it would cost when he arrived. I asked for a range and was told again that the plumber would have to tell us the price. The fee to come out was $59, but that was waived if we had the work done. Because we have an unusual size heater (a lowboy, which is short), I asked if the plumber would have one. When I was told that he wouldn't, I asked if we could have one here that he would install and was told that would be fine. We set a time the next day for the install. The people I talked to on the phone were very nice and when I made a point to say that nobody would be home until that time, the woman said that it was noted.

I worked for a plumbing company for many years and knew that this would be a very simple install. It is in an open area on a ground floor with no stairs or other issues. The normal install for this would be about an hour and a half, plus or minus for travel time, etc. I was told by another company that install would run around $200-250, but they were not available for several days. That seemed about right at an average of $100/hr. plus whatever PVC fittings were needed.

I went out of town and left someone in his 70s who clearly knows nothing about plumbing to be there for the install. First the plumber called me significantly before the appointment time (I am not sure if it was 1 1/2 hours or 2 1/2 hours as I was travelling and time zones changed) saying he was on his way. I called back and left a message that nobody would be there until the scheduled time. About a half hour later I got a ""how did we do"" e-mail survey.

I later got a receipt for $573.98 and assumed it meant that the plumber was not able to install our heater and drain pan and had to supply one. Nope.

I am not sure how long he was there. The person there thought it was maybe an hour and a half. The receipt came two hours after the ""no earlier than"" appointment time, so it was definitely no more than that.

I thought there must be a mistake, so I called and asked for a breakdown of the bill as the invoice just had the flat rate. I got sent another copy of the same invoice. At one point I was sent a sheet, handwritten by the plumber at our home, quoting water heaters that they would supply as well as install. They ranged from $1,423 installed for a heater with the same specs and warranty as the one we supplied (which cost us $350 plus their installation) to nearly $3,000.

I called numerous times over the next few weeks trying to get the breakdown. The plumbing manager or somebody else was always supposed to be sending it in a day or two. Eventually I talked to the Customer Relations Manager on a Friday, who said she would have it for me either that day or the next Monday. After another week of nothingness I called her back. She said she would call me back and did. In that call she gave me this breakdown: $200 trip charge, $300 labor, $75 parts. I asked again for this to be in writing and said that I was told and their web site indicates a waivable $59 trip charge. She said the pricing was ""from the book"". I asked why I was not given these ""book"" prices when I initially asked for an estimate.

I then got this e-mail from her:

When we spoke I gave you what I believe the breakdown was off the top of my head, I did not have the actual numbers in front of me. I also stated that I was probably off which is why I got with the Plumbing Managers. They provided me with the breakdown listed below.

Cost Breakdown
$373 Parts and Labor
$141 Overhead
$59 Profit

$573.98 total Standard Pricing for a Non Plan-holder. If customer was a Plumbing Service Plan holder a 10% discount would have been given. If customer was a Plumbing Service Plan Plus Plan-holder he would have received a 20% discount.
As I also let you know our company does a flat rate pricing and does not do an itemized list.

This is B.S. for many reasons. First, the only way for parts and labor to be $373 is for the plumber to be paid way, way more than a journeyman plumber gets, even with benefits. As a CPA I understand the need to cover overhead and provide a decent profit, but these numbers just don't add up.

If they have a flat fee, they have a flat fee. I get that. If they want to charge a ridiculously high flat fee, that is their choice, but when a customer calls and asks how much it will cost, they should get that number. They shouldn't be told that the plumber will tell you when he or she arrives.

I am concerned about how they arrive at this number. Does everyone get charged nearly $600 to install a small water heater, or only elderly or clueless people? Does the rate depend on how difficult the install will be (and I heard about some really difficult ones when I worked for a plumbing company), which is fair, or does it depend on who answers the door?

I would love to hear from others who used them for this.

I had my A/C go out. It was unfortunately on a holiday. I called three times over the span of an hour and a half. Not once did I receive a call back. I had this company not only install my system years ago, but they came out and fixed my air handler 6 months ago. I have a child who can't regulate his body temperature so this is very important. I will never use them again. 24 hour service is 24 hour service.

I have had a maintenance plan through Cool Today where they come to service my house twice a year and so when I had a thermostat tripping to a ""Wait"" mode on Thursday March 24th and not cooling the house, I gave them a call. A service tech came out the next day (Friday, march 25th) and when I returned from work, the tech greeted me with a sad face and that there was bad news. The tech said he detected one leak and then 2 leaks from my evaporator coils. He went on to say that since he found 2 leaks, he did not bother to look for anymore because it told the story. He also said the system was original to the house (1995). The tech also informed me there was no gas left in the system, that the system was rotted out, and that I would ""be in for a warm weekend"" until I was to get a new AC system. I asked if he could top me off and the tech said that would be very dangerous and could cause a fire. Also, it would cost about $1,000 to do so because there was ""nothing left"" in the system and the ""new types"" gasses are extremely expensive. I asked the tech to get the ball rolling on system replacement.
The tech called the Cool Today office to arrange a Sales person appointment. Rick, the Sales Associate, called me to arrange an appointment the next morning at 10:00am. Rick did not arrive until 10:45am and he looked at the system. Rick confirmed that the system was no good and needed replacement. He also said the compressor was from 1995 and it was beyond time to replace. I asked him to put together some proposals and Rick did 2 of them for me. One system proposal was for $6,080 and another for $6,100. There is a push for the Carrier brand, which through research shows them as a mediocre system at best - clearly there is a financially beneficial situation with Cool Today and Carrier. I then asked Rick if these were his best proposals. Rick responded in the affirmative and said he could install first thing Monday morning. I said ""great"", but there was another company coming in the afternoon to take a look. After which, I would let him know.
Roughly 3 hours later, Rick left me a message that he could take off $500 of the Carrier bid (the $6,100 one) and could install Monday morning. A better proposal I suppose.
The night before, I contacted another AC contractor of whom I was recommended by the Longboat Key Club. The company arrived in the afternoon and was baffled as to what Cool Today was saying about leaks, lack of gas and age of the system. They isolated a fault low voltage circuit in the handler and voila-the system works perfectly. System was full of gas, had no leaks and was from 2006 (not 1995 as I confirmed with a housing inspection done in August of 2014).
I regard my business dealings with Cool Today as borderline criminal. To lie to me about the leaks, lack of gas and age of the system, is unconscionable. Furthermore, to charge me exorbitant rates for their services is shameful. I wonder how many people have been deceived by this practice and victimized by Cool Today.

Labor charge to replace coils in A/C unit was $1,850 or more than $600 per hour. Another company replaced for $700. Nuff said!
