I called the other day praying they could send someone same day. Josh made it here in 2 hours and had my A/C problem diagnosed and fixed in less than half an hour. It was about $300 including the service call. I thought that was pretty cheap compared to living in an 80 degree house with my bride.
Great work, showed up in a heartbeat and also went upstairs and cleared the drain line from the attic unit.
I couldn't have asked for better.
Highly recommend.

Buyer beware. Charleston Heating and Air is extremely expensive and will take advantage of uninformed consumers. I called them to diagnose a non working condensation pump for a mini split AC unit. For $89 a service tech came out to the house and confirmed by finding. I accept the service call fee as reasonable. To replace the pump they wanted to charge me $807 which they discounted from $955. They told me the part cost $207 and $600 for labor. We are talking about a part that just needs to be snapped in place and wired to a power panel (two screws) and connect the two discharge tubes. A trained technician should be able to replace in 20-30 minutes. I went online and purchased the exact replacement pump from Amazon for $134 delivered the next day. I gave Charleston Heat & Air a chance because they have consistently called me year after year soliciting my business and reviews looked good but did say they are more expensive. I didn't expect to be victimized by an unscrupulous operation.

Charleston Heating and Air has the WORST customer service I have experienced. I have spent thousands of dollars with them over the last two years installing multiple systems in two condos. However, they are not fulfilling their maintenance contract for either condo. The customer service manager will not answer my questions, instead she simply repeats her script over and over. In addition, she is insisting it is MY fault that they have not executed the preventative maintenance I have prepaid to have done.
I will not be giving them any more of my money and I strongly suggest you don't either.

CH&A misdiagnosed our issue, immediately tried to sell us a $10,000 + unit and told us we needed freon in the interim. Clearly you could tell the tech makes commission as he was trying to sell us the most expensive unit for over $13,000. They told us we had a freon leak. Their freon prices were 3x that of other local heating and air companies. We had the freon put in by another company (while we were making decisions) and then based on what CH&A told us ended up buying the EXACT same trane unit - with even more benefits (remote/phone apps - that CH&A was charging $250 more for), for over $2,000 LESS! When we had the unit installed we were told by the owner of the new company we used, that there was NO freon leak that CH&A misdiagnosed this. I rang the manager, explained the situation and they still charged us for the service call. She said she would bring it ""up the ladder"" and try and do something for us. 5 days later she rang me and said sorry, we aren't doing anything for you. We will never use them again. If you like throwing your money out the window by all means use them. If not, I highly recommend using Smoak's....

Had they just reimbursed us for the service call and admitted their mistake all be be forgiven. Even though we spent $350 on freon that just had to be removed. CH&A cost us over $500 of unnecessary money.

The owner did email me and say because they use high end products that was why it was so expensive. Again - we bought the EXACT unit (we had written quotes from them) for $2000 less.

p.s. they also were charging us $1000 for a crane to install the unit, which the going rate in downtown is $350.

Charleston Air Care did a wonderful job with the installation of my new AC unit from beginning to end! Michael was very patient with me as I asked him a million questions and he really listened to my requests to help me with the best solution that fit my needs and budget. I also appreciated that Michael waited outside at least 20 minutes for my home warranty technician to leave, you have a wonderful employee! Michael even gave me an earlier install date than expected! I wasn't at home for the set up, but I could only tell the installers were here because I had AC, no mess was left! I called back to the office a few days later for an additional invoice since I lost my original, and I was emailed the receipt on the spot! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT EVERYONE USE CHARLESTON AIR CARE BECAUSE YOU GET MORE THAN YOU PAY FOR!!! My coworker paid $1000 more than me for a smaller unit, should have used Charleston Air Care!
Sincerely,
Ivette Davis

The person that came to our house was wonderful. Not only was the appointment process, easy, they showed up on time, A BIG THING WITH US! He was professional, kept the home clean while he did his work and made us feel like we were the only customer that day! We have had this company for some time and wouldn't go anywhere else! They are honest and make sure the heat or AC is always working. Great on repairs as well (although we haven't had many since they did the preventive on the units). Great job folks!!

I too am very unsatisfied with this company. 4 years ago I purchased and had my entire air handler/compressor installed by Charleston Heating and Air. It NEVER worked correctly. I continually had issues with temps. Either the heat would blow at 3-5 degrees over room temp or cool 3-5 degrees under room temp. (When measured at vent) Their sales rep sized the unit based off sq ft but we all know how conscious we are of how long the energy sucker stays on. It stayed on all day. When I called for service to address, their solution was always, we pumped more freon in to correct the problem. This happened during my last 3 ""maintenance visits.""

So here we are today, I have all the windows in my home open for a cool 85 degree breeze, I have a leaking coil (mind you 4 years old) and a senior tech from the company at my house. They quote DOUBLE what another company has already bid on, that's with the coil being under warranty and their ""10% maintenance discount."" AND tell me they are going to charge additional labor hours because the unit THEY installed is too close to the wall, has to be removed so that they can access the coil to replace. I can't make this up... I told them it would be cheaper for me to cut a hole in the wall in front of unit so that he could slide the coil through the wall. He said ""that's a good idea, I should have thought of that."" He then lowered his price from $2,100 to $1,003... to replace a coil and recharge the lines. That sounds like $250 an hour at 4 hours of additional labor to remove the unit from my closet. Other reviews state ""expensive,"" yes I agree. I was so frustrated I kindly asked him to leave. This is how they treat a 4 year customer? A customer that buys their entire HVAC system from them?? I'm so irritated, my vote, stay away, avoid the stress.

OH!! Right after I asked him to leave he says ""I'm supposed to ask you for $49 for my service visit today."" Goodbye.

My experience with Charleston Heating and Air was initially very good. I used this company for a hand full of minor service repairs and general maintenance for the span of about 2 years. I recommended CH&A to two of my neighbors, one of which is an elderly woman who needed her drainage tube flushed on her unit. This is a very simple job, and takes very little time to complete. They charged her an exorbitant amount of money for a simple 20 minute job. At this point, I was no longer willing to use them as my HVAC repair service.

Today, our compressor was not working properly. Our service repairman (of a different company) came out to look at the unit, and found that the capacitor and the hard start, both installed by CH&A, was wired completely improperly, causing the compressor to be constantly powered, adding undue load on the unit, including not allowing the compressor to cool and lubricate efficiently. The compressor is a major part to the HVAC unit, and costly to replace.

CH&A would not take responsibility for their technician's improper work. I certainly was not expecting 100% compensation for this part, but certainly expected CH&A to take responsibility for a completely improperly installed piece(s) of equipment.

I would honestly stay away from this company. If I was unable to do my job in the fashion that the CH&A technician was unable to do his, I would certainly be unemployed. In addition, a company that is unwilling to take responsibility for their very sub par work, is not a company that should be taking your hard earned money.
