F.E. Hurtz and J.A. Leuzinger founded Brea Electric in 1919. Frank Holly later acquired the business with two partners before becoming its sole owner in 1932.
Brea Electric relocated to its present site on Imperial Highway in the early 1950s.
Frank's son Don remembers assisting his father with wiring homes and businesses during the construction surge of the 50s and 60s.
Don's son Richard became involved, accompanying his father on service calls starting at age 14. “Soon enough, I was running my own jobs and reading blueprints,” Richard recalled, having purchased the business from his father at the age of 29 in 1996.
Since Richard took over, Brea Electric has broadened its offerings to include wiring for home computers, home theaters, sound systems, and energy-efficient lighting.
Brea Electric is recognized as the oldest family-owned business in Brea. As the third-generation owner of Brea Electric Company, Richard Holly carries on a legacy that spans more than 80 years. Frank, Richard's grandfather, entered the company as a partner in the late 1920s and took full ownership in 1932.
In the late 1970s, Richard's father, Don Holly, took over the business. Don was present during the early electronic era, installing a variety of color TVs in the late 50s and early 60s. He fondly remembered, “The kids would be sitting there, anxiously waiting for the antenna to be set up so they could watch their cartoons.”
In 1996, Richard assumed ownership and has since made the business more successful than it has ever been. Richard stated, “Community members would call to tell me my grandfather wired their homes; it highlighted the significance of being a third-generation owner.”
Today, Richard's sons, Camden and Quintin, are learning from their father to eventually take over Brea Electric as the fourth generation.

I contacted Brea Electric because I needed to install three ceiling fans in my home, Richard was quick to respond and scheduled service within a few days.
Richard sent Daniel and he did a great job. Daniel was detail oriented during the installation process, meticulous with the clean up and the ceiling fans look great! I'm extremely pleased with the level of service I received from Richard and Daniel and would recommend Brea Electric to everyone!
Jeff S.Had a really good experience from start to finish. Had to request a couple of small changes and Richard was so helpful and quick to respond. Would recommend Brea Electric for sure.
Ana Z.I just called these people. A woman answered and barked a curt ""Brea Electric"" at me in a pretty unfriendly voice I might add. No ""good morning"""", no ""thank you for calling"", no siree. Who's got time for pleasantries, right? So I said ""I need an electrician"". SHE HUNG UP ON ME! I called back immediately ...and got the answering machine. It is 11:30 a.m., ...well within normal business hours. Who's got time for actually WORKING, right? Then people wonder why small American businesses are dropping left & right like flies.
Don't bother calling Brea Electric: they apparently DON'T like or need to work for a living!
***UPDATE: I just received THIS private message from the owner of this company: Apparently his policy is to track down negative review posters and pay them a personal visit to their homes:
""Hello Analia,
I'm so sorry to learn that you had such a bad experience with Brea Electric. I stopped by your home this morning and left you a note along with my business card. In case you haven't seen my note, I'd very much like to speak with you about this matter. Please give me a call on my cell phone at (714) 815-3XXX so I can attempt to make amends with you.
Respectfully,
Richard Holly, Owner""

""How many business owners would actually make the extra effort to go to an unsatisfied customer's home with the intention of offering a free service call and a forthright apology?""
I never gave you my address nor is it registered with Yelp nor was the phone number I used to call you registered to my name (it was my husband's) thus I find it very spooky & frightening that you would actually come to my home. How many business owners would actually make the extra effort to hunt down and then personally visit a negative reviewers home when a simple callback would have sufficed?
IN CASE YOU EVER DECIDE TO VISIT MY HOME AGAIN, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU FIRST TAKE THE TIME TO CAREFULLY REVIEW CA PENAL CODE § 646.9.
I definitely recommend Brea Electric Company for all your electrical work. Richard Holly sent Dan Cortes out to assess my tripped circuit breaker issue. Dan trouble-shot the situation and offered options on how to proceed. The 20 amp circuit breaker was overloading at 23 amps and tripping the GFI in the kitchen. Dan recommended adding one dedicated circuit for the microwave and another dedicated circuit for the range hood fan and lights. Dan worked several hours under the house and up in the attic. He was courteous, professional and neat and when he finished testing all of the work I was totally confident that the job was done right and Brea Electric deserves five stars.

Laura S.I own a small business in Yorba Linda and called the Brea Electric team to change out some bulbs in my front sign and to also take a look at some flickering lights above my counter. They changed out the bulbs in front and a ballast on one of the lights inside. The other one had some cosmetic issues and the team advised me that it would be more cost efficient to replace the whole fixture. The price was on par with a previous quote I had received from another company and they did not charge me a secondary service charge. During the installation, I mentioned to the guy that was working (I can't remember his name!) that some of the panels in the back of the shop had been disturbed by Spectrum when they were doing an installation. I laughed as told him that I hadn't been able to get the panels back in place by myself and him how thankful I was that he was working on the panels that my customers would see. He finished the job and began cleaning up. Before I knew it, he had taken his ladder to the back of the shop and put the panels disturbed by Spectrum back into place for me. That was above and beyond the service I was asking (and paying) for by Brea Electric! I sincerely appreciated this extra effort and the work that was done by all 3 people that came out to my shop. I wish I could remember everyone's names, but it was a wonderful experience all the way around. I'll definitely be using Brea Electric for my business and home electrical needs in the future!
Brea Electric is always friendly, helpful, and makes things right. We recently purchased an electric vehicle and needed our panel upgraded and a charger installed. Richard and his team did a great job understanding the work that needed to be done and completed my work in a timely manner. If anything goes wrong Richard and his team make sure to make it right. You can count on them.
Aaron H.These guys are top notch!!! Richard did an amazing job of communicating with me, even something I misunderstood that should have cost more he comped it and did not charge us the full amount! Adam our installer was very professional and clean! They put the customer first at Brea Electric and I will absolutely use them again!!
Mike B.I had a chandelier and pendant track lights installed and they look amazing! Job well done at very reasonable price!
Eric V.I needed 220v ran from my panel (back of the house) to my garage (front of the house). I was calling around to get multiple quotes, as any smart homeowner would, when I stumbled across Brea Electric. I called their office only to be greeted, or lack there of, by their receptionist who seemed irritated that I was calling?? After explaining what I needed she let me know that the owner Richard would be calling me the next day, I didn't receive a call for two days only to be told that he could stop by in the next hour?? I was at work and said I couldn't meet him but could meet later that day, he said ""No, I have to pickup a friend from the airport and that was more important"". Even so I don't think you should tell a potential new customer this? Anyways he asked for me to go into more detail of what I needed, being that I've spoken to a few electricians I had a good idea on what I needed, he was able to give me rough estimate over the phone and that was that. About a week later Richard calls to follow up 1) I just didn't like him or his receptionists attitude 2) his quote was too high, I politely explained to him how I hired a different electrician and didn't need his services. At this point he asks who I hired, which I told him since I didn't see any harm, he then proceeds to bad mouth the guy and asks when he will be doing the work, once again I didn't see the harm in giving that information. On the day of the work my electrician shows up to do the work only to have the Contractors State License Board show up an hour into the job?? Richard had called them to try and get my electrician fined for any ""bad"" work he was doing! The morale of my story is Richard and Brea Electric are bad people with bad intentions and really don't know how to act professional. As a business owner myself I really don't know how he gets jobs or stays in business. This is a fair warning to all who are considering them. Proceed with caution.
I submitted a request for services, and almost immediately was contacted by Richard.
He showed up as scheduled for an estimate, and was very polite, and professional. I explained to him that I was under a deadline. He said it was no problem. He took note on what I needed and told me he would call me back with an estimate.
I never got a call back and my project fell a day behind schedule. I ended up calling another electrician, who finished the project for me.
My only guess is my home project was not big enough for a company with commercial accounts.
