In 1973, while in high school, I started painting with my uncle in Vista, CA. Upon graduation, I relocated to Utah, where I pursued construction studies in college and worked in the tile sector and a cabinet manufacturing firm. I started my own painting business, then moved on to renovate and sell my own projects. By chance, my sister wanted to build a home in Carmichael, CA, which brought me back to Sacramento. After I completed her house, I launched my firm again, and here I am, 27 years later, still going strong.

I’m Ken Abreu, born in 1955, and construction has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I don’t know how many wood structures I created as a child; any loose board became a part of my projects, whether above ground or below. During high school, I signed up for a home construction class with a friend, excited to begin our careers in the building industry. After a family loss, I had the opportunity to move to San Diego, CA, and I never returned home. I graduated from high school in Vista and took a job painting for my uncle. Eventually, my parents relocated to Crescent City, CA, and I moved there for another remodeling job. I went back to Utah for a few years, gaining experience in ceramic tile, cabinetry, and framing. After that, I relocated to Sacramento, CA, to construct a house for my sister in Carmichael. Once her home was done, I founded Abreu Enterprises, beginning with painting and later branching into tile setting and drywall. Today, 27 years later, I remain here, still dedicated to renovation.
