In February 2012, we added Air Conditioning & Heating to our service portfolio. In its first year, the Air Conditioning & Heating services catered to many clients in Houston.
In September 2014, we added Electrical services to our offerings.
Abacus has consistently surpassed expectations by providing high-quality, customer-focused care and continues to thrive in the HVAC and Electrical sectors. Today, customers in Houston can turn to a single company for their plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical needs.
Quote from Tom Tynan: ""I've known Alan O'Neill for over 20 years, and his company, Abacus, stands out above all other plumbing companies in Houston."" Alan has been in the plumbing field since 1977, starting as an apprentice in Dublin, Ireland. Alan is a licensed Texas Master Plumber. Alan is married to Linda and has three children. Alan loves spending time with his family and is a certified scuba diver in his leisure time.
“The calmness of the underwater world offers a refreshing escape from the daily grind,” Alan shares. He finds joy in supporting Houston's sports teams, with a special fondness for the Houston Dynamo.

Let me be clear that the 1 star is only for the clean uniforms. The service call can be characterized as Unprofessional, rude, and an attempt to rip me off.
For a bad thermal coupler which the plumber never even looked at, the solution on a $125,000 house was as follows:
1) Wrap the rafter above the water heater with this magical tape that prevents explosions for $470 He said it was required by the county code. This was a complete lie. I called the Harris County Office that enforces residential code and provides permits and was told that there is no such requirement.
2) Replace the gas line to the heater. Not needed
3) Finally, and you will love this one, since even after using the magic tape the clearance would still not be enough, replace the heater with a tankless water heater for $8,000 plus change
When I said no, the plumber got really belligerent and aggressive. I told him to take his service fee and leave. He refused to take the service fee and kept on saying, ""come inside the house so I can show you what I am talking about."" I told him that he is not allowed in the property anymore and that he needs to leave. It was quite a scary interaction.
Finally, I called another ""LICENSED PLUMBER"" and he replaced the thermal copuler for a grand total of $130. ABACUS is a RIP-OFF. I will never give them any business and I suggest you stay away from them on the plumbing side of things. I have had no experience with their AC service so I cannot comment. However, I have since found out that the company pays it's plumbers a commission for the work done. So, higher the bill, higher the commission. No wonder they carry around magical tapes...
Alli J.It is so nice having the reassurance that our AC and plumbing is working well! We have had great service through them and will remain a loyal customer! PLUS the technicians are always very good about putting on their shoe protection before walking in the house!
Mandy Q.We have an older home and have used Abacus several time the past year or so. Although Abacus' pricing is on the high end, the plumbers are always on time, courteous and have always solved the problems and made the necessary repairs and we feel those are quality repairs.
I had a water heater going bad and leaking in my attic, they came after hours and replaced unit. No issues with their quality of work and employees, but their pricing is a bit high. I was a bit over a barrel with a unit leaking so...I paid the $2200 they asked for, but after doing some pricing research I found that they do charge quite a bit more than customary for the area. And, I didn't even get their top of the line water heater. So be aware, they will cost you!
Alice T.Our AC was not cooling so we called Abacus. They came and said we needed a new coil and a few other things. So we got an estimate which I thought was a high over 3k, but we went w them. I was curious so I had someone come give me an estimate on what they did and it was still high as AC SERVICES are, but cheaper than Abacus. So I guess I should of gotten a few estimates and then decide, but u live and learn. However, other than over charging me the techs were knowledgable, well mannered and did the work Ina timely manner.
Jon M.To begin with I was a little stressed when our technician showed up, I had to leave for a Doctors appointment in 15 minutes & I was stressed with the lack of time I had with your Technician. However our technician quickly began his inspection and work quickly and efficiently as I watched. Although I hated to leave I had to in order to make my other appointment. Our technician told as I left that he would be done in about 10 minutes & he'd call me when he was done with his recommendations. Sure enough I had pictures text to me and a call shortly after that. I was quickly informed of my issue and our technician state would still be in the area and stop by when I was done at the doctor.
Needless to say our technician went out of his way to assist us with replacing our HVAC system. He worked to get us approved and made sure my wife and I were satisfied with our purchase. His customer focus and friendliness quickly changed my frustrated attitude from when he first showed up at our door.
I most definitely will recommend Abacus to our friends and neighbors.
And most of all because of the customer service we received from our technician.
His respect to the customer was very impressive.
Could you please Thank our technician again for us!
We look forward to seeing him for AC check-up in the Spring!
Cheers
Tom showed up diagnosed the issue quickly fixed it and I am very pleased it's all working again with no leaks . Price was fair and used them before and will be glad to use them again
Thank you Abacus for taking care of us

Mohammed I.Byers beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why I did not read reviews before I call these people????? ""Fool me once, shame on you; full me twice, shame on me!"" I am going to make a mission for myself to expose abacas's deceiving ""bait and switch"" tactics to everybody so people know they should not call this awful company!! I see a lot of bad reviews in yelp, we should create a community to expose this awful company so Houstonians are protected.
I have called them based on my recollection from Tom Tyan recommending them. I had leak outside the house immediately next to the main water line. Plumber showed up and his first objective was to fix my main water line stop valve to the house ($400 charge so he can detect if the leak is inside or not) instead of giving me a free estimate to fix the leak!! I agreed as the outside valve was bad anyway. At this point we have established if the leak is outside and underground, he would charge approx. another $400 to fix the leak. After few hours of work and not been able to find the leak, he as getting frustrated and told me usually when he spends this amount of time, the bill is north of $1000! However, he finally find the leak and told me the pipe size is different (a master plumber does not if the PVC pipe size is 1"" vs. 3/4 of an inch - beats me!) the charge will be $600 instead of $400 due to different pipe size!!! He has already dug the hole in the ground, so I have not had an option but to give in to his 50% up charge than what we have agreed to begin with.
This get even worse!! When I get a call immediately afterwards to get feedback and told the rep entire situation and I would not use them again; a supervisor called be afterwards and heard the entire situation and agreed that there was definite sign of lack of integrity and promised to call back once he has a chance to talk to the plumber. This was 3 weeks ago and I never heard back from them!! I believe the supervisor called back immediately to defuse the situation and deliberately deceive people to avoid bad reviews!!
Do not call this people, Tom Tynan should be reconsider recommending this company (Tom, read the reviews and you decide for yourself)!! Abacas have crafted the perfect way to deceive customers and I want you know you have other options!!!!!
Sonya K.I highly recommend Aaron Duff! He is efficient, timely, and professional.
We have an older home and have had several plumbing issues. Aaron has always figured out the issue and some of these issues were not easy to find. He explains the issues and causes, reviews the work that needs to be done, and the cost of the repair.
We called Abacus to come to our home in Magnolia to quote on some major renovations we were doing in our newly purchased home. It was going to be a large job. We had the appointment for a couple of weeks and the day before the appointment, they called to say they don't service ""Mongolia"" . Really? Can't imagine why they don't service Asia :) Anyway, I called them back and had to leave a voice mail as I had verified prior to the appointment that they serviced MAGNOLIA. I was assured they did. On the message I left my name and contact information for them to call me back. I am a girl and it was obvious from my voice but they never returned the call but sent me a letter addressed to Mr. They obviously have no idea what they are doing prior to even doing the work. Save yourself some time and go elsewhere. Just because they are advertised on the radio through home talk lines does not mean they are good.
