Abacus Plumbing was established by Master Plumber Alan O'Neill in 2003 with a clear mission: ""Create lifelong customers through exceptional service."" This commitment to customer satisfaction has made Abacus Plumbing one of Houston's top companies and earned it respect on a national scale.
In February 2012, Abacus expanded its offerings to include Air Conditioning & Heating services. During its inaugural year, the Air Conditioning & Heating division served numerous customers in Houston.
In September 2014, we broadened our services to include Electrical work.
Abacus has gone beyond expectations by offering top-notch, customer-oriented care and is thriving in the HVAC and Electrical industries. Today, customers in Houston can turn to a single company for their plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical needs.
Tom Tynan states: ""For more than 20 years, I've known Alan O'Neill, and Abacus is far superior to any other plumbing service in Houston."" Alan entered the plumbing industry in 1977, starting as an apprentice in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland. Alan is a licensed Texas Master Plumber. Alan is married to Linda and has three children. In his free time, Alan enjoys family activities and is also a certified scuba diver.
“The calmness of the underwater world offers a refreshing escape from the daily grind,” Alan shares. He finds joy in supporting Houston's sports teams, with a special fondness for the Houston Dynamo.

Recommended Customer Reviews
We called during the office hours, they responded within 24 hours and did okay Job with pricey cost. The office gave you the tech arrival time was between 9am-6pm. The part that they installed in the faucet looks like from old faucet, I saw the black color (kind of used part look) in the part, but the repair tech say it's a new one?! Tech just asked customer sign on his tablet with long agreement, did not explain or went thru any details, he said he will send a receipt but never got any receipt no matter how many time you called the company.
Held me up for 3day.
This the worst customer service (plumbing) company in Houston.
They tell you, from 9am to 6pm is your window for someone to show up. 1st day, at 5pm tech was running late for an almost 6pm arrival, 2nd time tech canceled on us at 530pm and 3rd time they never called. Was promised a call from a manager and that too was a failure and a lie.
If you need a Plummer, don't use this company.
Totally unreliable.
This place is a joke, refuses to give a quote over the phone but then will quote you an absurd price in person banking on you desperately needing them. Charges $250 to hang a simple ceiling fan. They give you a window between 9am-6pm so the window is all day. My technician was great, but quoted me $650 to hang two light fixtures and a fan. The value of the items was less they the labor cost to install them. Beyond disappointed in Abacus
I had Abacus come out for an estimate to add 2 electrical outlets in my garage. I was told that the whole electrical box would have to be replaced and new wiring would have to be run to the electrical box near the street. The bid was over $8000, yes $8000. Ridiculous!! I called Bowne Electric and they did the job for $765. That was 3 months ago and we have had no issues. Don't trust Abacus!!
If I could give them no stars, I would have. Their techs are more concerned with sales. I was told that their new policy was that I'd pick a day. They would call me thirty minutes before arrival. I asked, if they would give me a time window. I was told that it was anytime during the day. If I wasn't available, they would just go on.
I asked the representative if she could leave her job for a couple of hours, anytime she needed repairs?
They have little customer service.
I wish that I had seen their Yelp Reviews before I had a service contract. . Multiple one stars are a huge clue.
I'm going to try a company that values my time not theirs.
Michael G.This is one of those times I wish I had looked at the yelp reviews before calling Abacus. I would avoid them at all costs as they are scam / ripoff artists. Be aware they were promoted in the ""Consumer Business Review"" that is mailed each quarter or so to my house. Now that I know the ""Consumer Business Review"" magazine promotes scam artists, I will avoid any vendor listed in that publication.
I called Abacus for two things to be repaired, spent a lot of time on the phone explaining the problem - dripping bathtub needed a new cartridge and a sink that needed an adjustment - gave them the brand name, etc. We scheduled an appointment on a Wednesday and the only time window they would give me was between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday morning around 9:30, a lady from Abacus called and said the technician was on his way - it somehow took hours to get here as he didn't arrive until 3:00 p.m. He was very courteous, looked at the issue and took a lot of pictures with his tablet. He told me he would be unable to do the work today and it would take at least two more trips - one person to come fix the bathtub leak and another for the sink. That was very disappointing as I had already taken off the day for work to meet him as well as specifically explained the issues needing repair when I setup the appointment (brand name, etc.).
He needed a few moments to work up an estimate - if I joined their ""plumbing club"" I could save $376 on the repair (that's about how much I thought the job was worth). When I asked how much the estimate was, I was told I could have it repaired for the low price of $1,674 if I joined their plumbing club.
Needless to say, I asked him to leave. I called another plumber and had both issues fixed for $322.
Like I said, I wish I had looked on Yelp prior to calling them and wasting a day as this seems to be their standard operating procedure.
DO NOT call Abacus. They will absolutely attempt to rip you off. I am surprised they are allowed to practice and have not been sued. Called them to my home for A/C issue. Told me I needed my unit to be completely replaced at a cost between $17K - $23K.
Called Optimal Air Solutions for a second opinion. Told me that even if I needed an A/C replacement that it would be under $10K, but to find out that was not even the issue. They fixed the system in less than 15 minutes and I paid under $100.
Then my mother in law contacted them. She was told that her Blower and Furnace needed to be replaced. Those are actually the same thing... She was quoted $10K from Abacus. After a second opinion her system did need some work, but was less than $800. This is mind blowing crazy that they would attempt to take advantage of a senior citizen or anyone for that matter. This is reckless. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion, better yet, do not call Abacus in the first place!!!
Ian T.Okay, so the work that they did was fine, but it was a bit expensive for what it was (straightforward shower cartridge replacement). There also seemed to be a communication breakdown between the two plumbers: one came Wednesday and identified the part that they needed, a different one on Friday arrived without the part and had to come back later with it.
The thing that was a little bit annoying was that the second plumber was insistent after finishing the job that I had a persistent drip from the faucet. It seemed to be a steady stream drip when it was shown to me... the fix for this new problem was quoted at $2,600! I held off on committing to any new repairs, only to find the drip completely gone after the first use.
Just know they are going to try to upsell you. Research the repair you'll need to have done beforehand and be a smart consumer.
On Labor day came to unclog AC drain. Charged 200.00 extra for holiday call.
Snaked drain and charged 319.00.
Total 519.00 .
Complete RIP off. Was a good client, no more. These people are thieves.
Our A/C went out so we called these people. A technician came out and said our entire A/C needed to be replaced for $15,000. Or spend $1,200 on a new motor and other issues. He kept saying the whole thing desperately needed replaced. I said thank you but no thank you. I called a different company. They came out same day and found the issue to be the capacitor and it only cost $184 to replace.
