In April 1981, the Humphrey & Associates Inc. Stock Ownership Plan and Trust acquired fifty percent of the common stock not held by Steve Humphrey. Fifty percent of our stock is owned by our employees, known as Associates. Employees begin to earn shares after one year of service, thus becoming part-owners of Humphrey & Associates. In 1981, we gifted half the stock to our employees through an employee stock ownership plan, truly making them the ""associates"" in the corporation.
At first, H&A specialized in electrical contracting and design in the Metroplex; we opened a branch in Mt. Pleasant in 1986. In 1995, we added a mechanical group, providing customers with a complete MEP team package; later in the '90s, we opened a principal office in Fort Worth and another branch in Denton. With each new service, our goal is to enhance our customer experience.
While H&A is family-owned, we are a major player in the market. Our management team considers the 310 ""associates"" to be our most valuable resource. The board of directors and a managing executive committee, consisting of seven vice presidents and branch managers, have an average tenure of 25 years together, which is quite rare in the construction field.
