The YWCA's N.E.W. (Non-Traditional Employment for Women) program featured women discussing various non-traditional careers, covering fields like carpentry, ironwork, and being a chef. Among the instructors was Carlita Martinez, an electrician, who provided materials for practical experience. She introduced us to a large plywood sheet, pipes, junction boxes, and various wires. She taught us the workings of a light switch by having us bend pipes, connect wires, and assemble an electrical box. I realized immediately that this was my calling. For me, it was a complete transformation, a shift in perspective, and knowing, ""This is my true calling."".
