The N.E.W. (Non-Traditional Employment for Women) program at the YWCA brought in women to share insights on various non-traditional fields, including carpentry, ironwork, and culinary arts. One of the instructors, Carlita Martinez, an electrician, came with tools for hands-on training. She introduced us to a large plywood sheet, pipes, junction boxes, and various wires. She taught us the workings of a light switch by having us bend pipes, connect wires, and assemble an electrical box. I realized immediately that this was my calling. For me, it was a complete transformation, a shift in perspective, and knowing, ""This is my true calling."".
