He went to Ft Myers Middle School and graduated from Ft Myers High School in 1977. Jerry has dedicated time to supporting youth athletics in Lee County over the years. He has coached youth soccer with the Cape Coral Soccer Association and youth basketball through the Youth Basketball Association of Lee County (YBA). The secretary/treasurer, Debbie Martin, comes from Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Debbie's family moved to Lee County, Florida, in 1972 as a result of a job transfer. She graduated from Ft Myers High School in 1979 and earned a BS degree in Finance from the University of South Florida.

Jerry and Debbie crossed paths in 1980 and got married in 1982. Their only child, Nick, was born in 1984. In 2003, Nick graduated from Bishop Verot High School and went on to graduate from the University of South Florida in 2008.
