Industrial Electric Testing was established in Florida during the autumn of 1987 as the testing branch of Industrial Electric Construction Company. James T. Hill, then the Chairman and Owner of IET, subsequently bought Industrial, establishing it as a standalone testing firm.

IET proudly holds full membership in the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA), an ANSI standards organization comprised of independent electrical testing companies across North America and Canada. As a full member of NETA, IET serves as an unbiased testing authority, independent of manufacturers, suppliers, and installers of the systems or equipment under evaluation.
