Industrial Electric Testing was established in Florida during the autumn of 1987 as the testing branch of Industrial Electric Construction Company. James T. Hill, who was the Chairman of the Board and Owner of IET, later acquired Industrial and transformed it into an independent testing entity.

IET proudly holds full membership in the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA), an ANSI standards organization comprised of independent electrical testing companies across North America and Canada. IET functions as an impartial test authority, thanks to its full membership in NETA, remaining independent of manufacturers, suppliers, and installers of the evaluated equipment or systems.
