As the son of Calvin, a mason, I have fond memories of accompanying him to work from a young age. He eventually became a general contractor, constructing many houses. I carried bricks, blocks, and cement, assisting him with whatever he needed. I helped him with home construction, and I think I drilled my first electrical hole at the age of 7. Truthfully, I came to dislike construction as I aged and wanted to explore different avenues. During my college years, I took a temporary job with an electrical contractor that was meant to last just three days. I performed well and finished the job in just a day and a half. He told me I could keep working if I remained productive. I realized I loved the work and had a talent for electrical wiring. Eager to marry, I left school and committed to working full-time as an electrician. Now, over 20 years later, I own my own business, have been happily married for 24 years, and have six children. I feel blessed.
