As the son of Calvin, a mason, I have fond memories of accompanying him to work from a young age. Later, he shifted to general contracting, where he built a variety of homes. I helped him by carrying bricks, blocks, and cement, doing whatever tasks he required. I was always there to help when he built homes; I believe I drilled my first electrical hole when I was just 7. Truthfully, I came to dislike construction as I aged and wanted to explore different avenues. While attending college, I took a job with an electrical contractor that was supposed to last only three days. I did well and wrapped up the work in a day and a half. He told me I could keep working if I remained productive. I realized I loved the work and had a talent for electrical wiring. Since I wanted to marry soon, I left school and worked full-time as an electrician. Now, over 20 years later, I own my own business, have been happily married for 24 years, and have six children. I am grateful for all my blessings.
