Explore our website for more insights. Clarence Thoma founded Thoma Electric in 1962. The business environment shaped Bill and Ed, Clarence's sons. Bill earned his Electrical Engineering degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Ed completed his BS in Industrial Technology at Cal Poly. In 1989, the sons purchased the business from Clarence and his wife. We added Electrical Engineering to our offerings in 1981, and it has grown steadily. The average number of employees is around 60 to 70, but we peaked at 150 while working on a five-story hospital project in Santa Maria for Marian Hospital in 2011. Thoma Electric features divisions dedicated to Electrical Engineering, Major Electrical Construction, Small Electrical Construction, and Electrical Services. “All projects are significant, regardless of size”. We handle projects from start to finish, including design and construction. We provide Data/Comm services, copper and fiber work, solar installations, and emergency standby power systems. I earned my BS in Industrial Technology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1983. I was employed at National Semiconductor from 1984 to 1986, serving as a Manufacturing Engineer in wafer fabrication. I returned to SLO in 1986 to take on the roles of Estimator and Project Manager at Thoma Electric. My responsibilities have expanded to include Company Safety Director and Manager of the Service Plus division, focusing on small to medium electrical projects. We assist with troubleshooting electrical issues and take on small time and material jobs for both homes and businesses. We provide emergency electrical services after hours for urgent needs.
