I began my career as a painter alongside my uncle in Vista, CA, back in 1973 while still in high school. After graduating, I moved to Utah to study construction in college and gained experience in the tile industry and with a cabinet manufacturing company. I then took the leap to work independently as a painter, later transitioning to renovating and selling my own projects. As fate would have it, my sister decided to build a house in Carmichael, CA, prompting my return to Sacramento. After I completed her house, I launched my firm again, and here I am, 27 years later, still going strong.

I am Ken Abreu, born in 1955, and I have felt connected to construction throughout my life. I can’t count how many wooden structures I built as a child; any loose board became part of my projects, whether above or below ground. In high school, my friend and I took a home construction class, hoping to kickstart our careers in the building trade. After a family loss, I had the opportunity to move to San Diego, CA, and I never returned home. I graduated from high school in Vista and took a job painting for my uncle. Eventually, my parents relocated to Crescent City, CA, and I moved there for another remodeling job. I spent a few years back in Utah, working in ceramic tile, cabinetry, and framing. Next, I moved to Sacramento, CA, to build a home for my sister in Carmichael. Once her home was done, I founded Abreu Enterprises, beginning with painting and later branching into tile setting and drywall. Now, 27 years later, I’m still here, continuing to renovate.
