I have always taken on side projects, but I chose to launch my own company. My former employer, who gave me a chance as a Superintendent on a significant undertaking in the South—the Navy Federal Headquarters in Bueller, Florida—an important site. We partnered with Barracco Electric, and I joined three other electricians. Eventually, the team grew to 50 by the time I departed. When my former friend and boss told me he no longer needed me, I realized, “It’s all about business; you’re the most expensive on the payroll.” He mentioned he could hire others for a fraction of my pay. I recognize the realities of business. That’s when I resolved to study for my master contractor license, which I am currently studying for. The deadline in December 2022 is approaching.
