Henry Lipscomb founded this company in 1922 on Lemon Street before relocating to Tennessee Avenue. During the late 1940s, he built two quonset huts on Ingraham Avenue, and by the early 1950s, he erected a concrete block building at 230 N. Ingraham, moving the electric company adjacent to the huts.

In 1960, E. Harold Wilson, who joined Lipscomb Electric at 16, purchased the company and changed its name to 'Wilson Electric Company.' Currently, the company is owned by Dianne, Mr. Wilson's daughter, and is managed by her alongside partners Thomas Kassler and Rusty Tucker.

Fantastic service. We were changing out one of our ceiling fans and discovered the prior owners had done a shoddy DIY job on the electrical. We kept the power off to that room and started searching for an electrician. Had another referral from a friend but they couldn't help for 3 weeks! Called Wilson Electric and they were able to squeeze us in today. Julian called before arriving, fixed our issue and even installed the new fan for us. He was very courteous and professional and really did a great job. Our new fan looks fantastic and no longer shakes like the old one (probably because Julian actually anchored it) but best of all it's no longer a fire hazard! Will call them again to work on other things soon. Highly recommend Wilson Electric!

I sent Wilson Electric an online request for service because of an issue with a circuit breaker. They tried to call me in the morning to make sure that I didn't take time off of work due to scheduling, however, I already did. In speaking with them, I explained the problem. I was told they would get someone out to my home but it wouldn't be until the evening. No problem. Prior to noon, Josh calls me and says that he will be in my area and he will look at my issue. He was extremely professional, friendly and knowledgeable not to mention got the job done. This is the third time doing work for me and this is the third time that I am pleased with them! I have always been pleased with Wilson Electric and find them to be a reputable company.

Josh came out to fix two breakers that had to be replaced. He was on time and he is very friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. Also it only took him 15 minutes to get the job done. Thank you Josh. I will recommend Wilson Electric to all my family and friends.

I called and made an appointment with no issues!! He called before coming over!! The guy knew just what to look for when I told him what issues we were having. Awesome customer service. This level of professionalism is a dying breed but they were great to us. I don't recommend many places but this company I will.

Wilson sent out Ben and Jason to work on an emergency repair. When the problem was more grave than initially suspected, they stayed until it was fixed, many hours after closing. Their tenacity, thoroughness, and kindness will not be forgotten, and I will not hesitate to recommend Wilson Electric to anyone needing work in Polk County.

I called this company and asked what their hourly rate was. I was told $80 per hour from when the service tech arrived and left. I asked if this included any traveling fees or charges and they specifically said there was none. The service tech arrived and fixed the issue within 10 minutes I then asked him to address another issue and he seemed upset like I was waisting his time. He lolly gagged around the house just waisting time and never addressed the issue and spent another 20 minutes in his truck doing paperwork. I was charged 1hour and a half including the time he drove from his prior job (30 minute drive). I would not use this company again nor recommend them.

They were very prompt in responding. They brought all the equipment they needed to do the job right the first time.

Wilson carries the largest ad in the phonebook and advises 24 hour service. So after I developed an electrical issue, I called them early the next morning (about 8 am, hoping to avoid higher rates of ""after hours""). I got a groggy guy who said I was seventh on the list and they'd be out.

While knowing I was 7th was 'sposed to bring comfort, it didn't tell me if that meant 7th for one man (and therefore a long wait) or 7th with five men out on the job. A pet peeve is not being given a reasonable window to wait (morning? afternoon?) but the guy sounded like he was probably taking notes or an answering service.

I decided to call and cancel and go with a company with more definitive service times and someone answering the phone sounding like they were ""with it"". When I called, a woman answered who sounded much more efficient but by then my problem was fixed, free, with a little phone conversation (to check a GFCI fault switch).

Since I didn't actually use them to rate their service despite their phone service I gave a middle of the road reflection which might be helpful in combination with other reviews of Wilson. I won't count them out, but I doubt I'll call them first.

Dryer cut out over the weekend. Called them on Sunday. They called me back monday morning and had a repairman out by noon. The repairman began his trace at the outlet and followed it up the attic where it was discovered the wire was shorting due to its placement wjere it would get stepped on all the time. He wired a junction box and explained it all to me. The cost was affordable, no surprises. Highly recommended.

Support your local business!

Had to replace a ballast in a twelve-year old fixture (at least). Lowe's couldn't help, couldn't understand why it couldn't be ordered and just shrugged.

Steve at Wilson's patiently explained how the rules had changed on lighting fixtures four years ago, then matched up the right ballast, and new bulbs, for my fixture, at a fair price, and threw in some wire nuts to get the job done. When I had some problems with the wiring, he again, patiently, explained how the new electronic unit was a different setup, and got me through the job. I couldn't ask for more, short of having an electrician do it for me. Which they could have if I'd really needed it.

It's great to have a local outfit that can take the time, and has the knowledge, to get me through a rough spot. Thanks!
