I went with We Do It Custom to redo my front and backyard porches. I have complaints with the outcome of both projects. I'll start with the front porch first - 1. To this day I'm not 100% sure if the concrete installed has rebar as stated in my contract. On the day of the concrete pour after I questioned John about the rebar, he asked his worker if the concrete had rebar and the worker sheepishly replied, ""yes."" Makes me wonder if that's why a hairline crack appeared a couple of months later. 2. There was 2-4"" of exposed flashing that I was surprised that John was going to leave visible. After I complained, he cut it crookedly and left it exposed in some spots. Don't place your hand over it because you will get cut like he did when he tried cutting it down. 3. There is a gap between where the concrete meets with the house. I hired a contractor to place trim around my porch to somewhat remedy the eyesore. On to the backyard - 1. There were remnants of the previous porch after the new porch was installed (the ground was not smooth on the sides). John suggested using epoxy to fix the problem. It was obvious that he was unsure if that was the most effective solution so my husband and I suggested that he use a thin coat of concrete instead. The outcome was at best okay. 2. The concrete cracked on the steps about a month or so later. John decided to repair it by cutting the concrete along the crack line. Now I have a line in the middle of my backyard step. The line would have been longer if my husband hadn't noticed and stopped him in the process.
So, for what I paid, I should not have had to hire a contractor to go behind his work. The workers appeared more knowledgeable and paid more attention to detail than John the Contractor.
John responded to my project quickly and worked me into his busy schedule. His prices are reasonable and well worth it based on the work he did, which was to build a 12' x 14' bed of concrete in the backyard.
While there was one hiccup, John worked around the hiccup and figured out a way to get the work done. I would definitely call John again in any future projects.
John and his team are the best of the best. He consistently stepped up throughout several months of work on our property, even undertaking an additional part of the work that a separate contractor had previously botched. He is trustworthy, kind, communicative and skilled- I would hire him again in a heartbeat.
Mark P.Our relatively small cement project involved filling in three former garden plots along an adjacent sidewalk that we no longer needed. In preparation for the work I disconnected the irrigation feeding the areas as there would no longer be any need to water the area which was also causing undesirable soil erosion. So I called John at WE DO IT CUSTOM after reading positive online customer reviews. We discussed the work over the phone and after texting John some photos he gave me a verbal cost estimate. John informed me that although his schedule was currently busy he would be able to fit me in. John and his assistant Andreas arrived a few days later exactly on time to set up then complete this half-day project. Before beginning John explained exactly what he was going to do, how long it would take, answered all my questions, and invited me to examine and contribute to the final surface appearance. John had excellent communication skills, was punctual, friendly, and professional. End result I am completely satisfied with the integrity, honesty, and quality work of WE DO IT CUSTOM and look forward to future projects around the house that John said he would be able to do.
I cannot day enough good things about John! Even though we had a small project that probably wasn't worth his time, he knew we were in a time crunch and made it a point to help us out. The price was very reasonable, the work product was excellent, and the customer service went above and beyond. I'm definitely giving him a call again for any general contracting needs. He treated us like old family friends.
Gabriel O.We called and got very honest advice about cement work that saved us thousands. Huge thanks to these guys, can't wait to work with you on future projects!
John did an amazing job with his crew. He took care of demolishing a significant amount of concrete for us, building a new block wall and ensuring everything was permitted. He's extremely easy to communicate with, very responsive to questions/concerns and finished our project on time. We found him through his good yelp reviews and we're glad we called him.
Above and beyond. John and his crew did an excellent job with our demolition and building the block wall. He was very prompt, polite, and professional.
Like the other reviews stated, he communicates very well and is very much about the customers needs. We had quite a few requests and he accommodated them all with ease. His price was fair and was itemized to show what was being spent where which was a huge help to us when we were still shopping around for bids.
We decided to pull the permits ourselves, which initially we were met with a bureaucratic nightmare. We called John to let him know we weren't able to get the permit and he came to the permit office with me the next day and we walked out, permit in hand, within 30 minutes.
Highly recommend We Do It Custom for all your needs and he is definitely going on our list of recommended contractors for the future.
Bob R.John has done an amazing job at my place over the last 4 years. Took my ideas and turned them into reality. Making sure all was done correct and to code. Adding his ideas into the mix when appropriate and always had my best interest to heart. You can literally tell him your idea and he can make it happen. Big network of reliable people to take you from start to finish seamlessly. I've passed his name on to many people and have looked to him for guidance when I need a referral or just advice for an upcoming project I'm working on. Great guy. Highly recommended!
Mishari S.My husband and I have been planning to have our backyard cemented for easy/low maintenance for many years and finally we decided to make it happen. I went on yelp to look for the top rated concrete contractor in my area (South Bay) and I found John and his company ""We Do It Custom"" for having 5 stars reviews and pictures to prove his work. I called John and he was able to come to my house to look at my backyard and provide an estimate the same day.
From the beginning, John had excellent communication, punctual, friendly, and professional. I received the estimate the following day. We decided to go with John for our project and I'm so happy we did! He was always so prompt to respond to my texts, patiently answered my questions, and his prices are reasonable/competitive.
John and his team worked really hard and were professional. At the end of each day they made sure the area was clean and ready for the next day's prep work. The whole project took 4 days as he mentioned in the contract and he was on point. Throughout the process he kept me informed about the plans, changes, and anything that came up. Great communication and customer service is so important to me and John delivered high quality work and honest. After the job was done, he made sure the area was clean and organized.
We are very pleased with the results and love our backyard! I'm so happy that we chose John for our project. We can finally use our backyard. Overall, John, Stephen, and his whole team at We Do It Custom are professional, hard workers, produced high quality work, and excellent communication/customer service!
I highly recommend John and his company. We will definitely go with him for future projects! Thank you John, Stephen, and all the crew for doing an amazing job!
