Truly someone that takes pride in their work. I've worked with Marcus on several jobs, his attention to detail and work ethic always impress me.

Marcus is an outstanding human being. A trustworthy, reasonable electrician who is honest. He went way beyond expectations. As we have not had trades people this courteous and competent, I thought YES with a sigh of relief and a renewed faith in humanity. Thank you Marcus!!!!

He came out and changed a panel box so I could upgrade my heating. Showed up when he said he would, did all work exceptionally, finished on time within quoted price. I will use Volta Nova for my future electrically needs. You should use Volta Nova also.

I was so grateful to receive a recommendation for Marcus McComus. Marcus is as knowledgeable as he is friendly. He is a second generation Boulder Creek Resident and has a great understanding of the unique electrical challenges that come from former summer cabins that have been patched together to become full time residences. Fortunately, our home was built in 1964, so we did not have to deal with knob and tube wiring, but we had no doubt he would step up to any challenge. He installed an e-charger for us, added an extra breaker for a 200-amp panel and a few more outlets, upraded to GFI, among other things. Not only did he carely check out the home in advance for a free estimate, but he even went to visit a previous property we put an offer on, which thankfully we did not get.
Additionally, Marcus even thought ahead to what we might updgrade to in the future and checked the outlets in the back, in case we went to a whole-house generator. He never tried to oversell, and he was extremely fair in his pricing. Despite a busy schedule, having just recovered from the flu, he went out of way to accomodate us quickly. And he even returned on a Saturday to finish the job, when it took a bit longer than expected. Marcus makes sure the job is done right; he is a good, hard-working family man who takes pride in his work. Having had electrical work done in the past by less conscientious and competent professionals, that resulted in sparks flying in our attic, working with a licensed caring individual like Marcus offered peace of mind.
Marcus is an honest professional who wants to ensure his customers are pleased with his work and that the work is done safely and correctly. He doesn't bad-mouth the work of others, even if your electrical box looks like a birds nest; he just quietly and calmly goes about cleaning it up, adding labels, and checking that everything works as it should. Quotes and payments are now handled through an app. You will not regret giving Marcus the project and will be in good hands.

TL;DR:
Trustworthy, honest, and fair work that does NOT utilize scare tactics. He offers a FREE consultation that 3 other electricians refused to offer (consultations ranged from $45 to $100). He will tell you in a digestible manner what needs to be fixed now instead of trying to make you spend $10K to needlessly re-wire the whole house.
So long as I remain in NorCal, I will continue to recommend and use Marcus for all of my electrical needs.
Consultation:
I am so happy we were referred to Marcus. Even though his schedule was full, he went out of his way to drive all the way to Fremont from Boulder Creek to complete a free consultation where he had NO guarantee that I would book him. He spent a few hours diligently diagnosing and reviewing the issue at hand to give us peace of mind regarding:
- what was the likely cause of the smoking outlet
- gave us several options to consider ranging from a basic fix, preferred fix, and the best fix
Service Area:
- while Marcus normally services the Boulder Creek Area, he commented that he would not mind servicing areas ~1 hour away either. However, keep in mind he may charge an additional fee to account for time and gas.
Communication:
- he was very upfront and took the time to simplify complex electrician terms to ensure a layperson would be able to understand the whys and whats of the issue
- he even offered to give me a call in the instance I required more understanding
Trustworthiness:
- he put in the extra time to explain concepts several times to several different people in the house to ensure we understood what happened and what he was doing to ensure the smoking outlet would not be an issue
- what was originally a quoted $10K price tag changed to a $1700 bill.

Our house started off as a one room cabin of about 500 sq feet and over the course of 80 years and numerous expansions and upgrades is now a 5 bedroom 2500+ sq ft home.
The wiring started out with knob and tube and there is still some that runs through the original cabin. The wiring became a complex maze with patch panels and the original panel that had been reworked and relabelled so many times, it was nearly impossible to figure out which switches went to which circuits.
We did a major expansion adding two new bedrooms and a bath around 2000 and this required new wiring for the new rooms and this further complicated an already very complicated wiring arrangement.
Marcus from Volta Nova Electric was out to look at another small job that required his expertise and I asked him to take a look at the electric panel because it was loose and seemed like it was an accident waiting to happen.
Marcus made a careful examination of the panel and the way things were set up. He proposed replacing the panel, redoing and cleaning up the tangled web of wiring coming out of the panel, and putting in new arc circuit breakers to protect the whole home. He gave me an estimate for the work and a timeframe when he could do it. His estimate was much lower than I expected because it was obviously a significant amount of work and I expected it to be much more expensive.
Marcus struck me as a conscientious and knowledgeable person, and I agreed to his proposal. He works with his dad sometimes who is also an electrician and I spent a little time with both of them during the work and was impressed at how well they worked together and the high quality of the work they did. They both wanted it to be perfect and I appreciated that since I wanted to have the wiring in a condition to where if anything went wrong, or we needed to expand the coverage, it would be easy.
Marcus and his father worked for one entire day redoing the panel and wiring coming out of the panel. We had also asked them to split one of the circuits so we could handle more electric devices on what was the original circuit. Marcus came back a few days later and did that work. Marcus noted that there was still some old knob and tube wiring under the original cabin and we agreed that we should make that a separate project to do later.
We got exactly what we wanted and the price was very reasonable. The quality of their work was excellent, and it was a pleasure doing business with them. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

From time to time, we all need a trustworthy electrician. Well, I got one for you. His name is Marcus McComas, is local, and licensed. His phone number is 831-566-7689.
I have known Marcus for over a year having worked with him several times in conjunction with the installation of upscale septic control systems. His work is excellent as he is a perfectionist - but that is to his credit. He believes that is takes no more time to do it right the first time. Some rush and take shortcuts only to have to return to fix their mistakes. Not Marcus. And he does his best to make his work ""look pretty,"" meaning parallel runs of conduit are in fact parallel, junction boxes are straight (he uses a level frequently) and uses a sealant for any connections that have to be moisture proof. It doesn't matter if he is pulling many wires through conduit or terminating wires at a receptacle, his workmanship is the same - outstanding.
More recently, Marcus electrified my new deck, meaning he installed receptacles and switches for lighting and convenience outlets. My deck is 16 feet off the ground on a slope so it wasn't easy. Running 50 feet of conduit under the deck meant working from the top of an extension ladder. No problem. He is neat, smart, friendly, and an all-around good guy. And he is punctual. His rate is incredibly reasonable. I wouldn't presume to state a rate because every job is different, but if you need electrical work done, small or large in scope, give Marcus a call.
