Universal Home Experts
Company Overview
I notice you are browsing Yelp for a service provider. I appreciate your interest in our profile. Consumers often struggle to find reputable businesses on Yelp. Yelp has a history of filtering reviews unfairly. Without payment, only unfavorable reviews are visible. This is why we show 2.5 stars on Yelp, but boast a 4.8-star rating on Google with 1500 reviews, plus an A rating on Angie's List with 750 reviews. We refuse to pay Yelp, which leads to only negative reviews being shown. I recommend using Best Pick Reports or 5 Star Reports to locate a reputable service provider. Is your home stuck due to plumbing, HVAC, or electrical troubles? Get in touch with Universal Home Experts today for fast, on-time service from our experienced technicians. We have been serving numerous residents across the Houston metro area since 1992. Our company is known for providing trained, background-checked, and drug-screened technicians who offer upfront pricing before starting any work. Initially, Universal focused on remodeling older homes in the Heights, Garden Oaks, Montrose, and Museum District. In 2004, we transitioned to focus on delivering expert repairs for residents. In 1986, Ed pursued a career as an electrician, following his grandfather's legacy. He accumulated experience in multiple sectors, but he loved residential remodeling the most. In 1992, he started the business, driven by his passion for remodeling older homes in Houston's inner city. This background has enabled him to develop and train electricians who know the most effective ways to handle repairs in your home.

In spite of (false) advertising and probably fake reviews, one can not get a simply, approximate price quote for a most simple job, such as a toilet installation!!!
You have to pay $59 for a guy to show up to give you a quote. If you don't like the price quoted you are out of your money and nthing will be done.
This is NOT a professional company. Stay AWAY !!!!!

Martin arrived promptly and solved our refrigerator water line issue quickly and efficiently. Great customer service and we will definitely call Universal Home Experts again!

Excellent company. Had some wiring replaced in my home and a new breaker box put in. Called for service and got an estimate. They came out the same day, did the work and got everything up to code. When I asked that the outside wiring be concealed they sent a tech back to change the wiring. This business puts customer service FIRST. Many companies today just want to collect a fee and be done. This company really goes the extra mile. The personnel does a great job communicating with the customer. They will call you back! The technicians are professional and very polite. Will be using them again.

I have to say I was very disappointed. I contacted this company because of their good reviews only to be told that they would not install a new water heater at my rental property even though I own the town house and I personally assured them they would be directly communicating/dealing with me the owner. The reason I was given is because they have had bad experiences with payment from tenants. Tenants are not responsible for repairs on rental properties the owner is responsible. I don't understand their reasoning; payment is always received at the time services is completed. I don't know what transpired between past rental property owners but I do know this about myself I am a very responsible person and it's insulting that I am being punished for something I did not have a hand in. So if you own rental property and need Universal Home Experts, I am passing along what was conveyed to me they don't do business with rental property owners. I'm disappointed but wish them well.

I had Universal Home Experts replace my exterior home and landscape lighting this past summer in Richmond, TX. To start with, when I first called them, they came the very next day to give me a quote and return the following day to do the work. The gentlemen that Universal sent out were very professional and polite. They went out of their way to accommodate my needs and very large yard. The job was completed in one day. There have been a few kinks since installation and I've had to have them back out twice. Each time I've called they were still very polite and happily returned to fix the issue the very next day after calling each time. I was impressed by this as they had already been paid and in my experience, companies are only prompt when there is a sale involved. Universal has far exceeded my expectations each time. I have recommended them to a couple of friends thus far. This is truly a company that stands behind their work!

A good electrician should be able to look at the detailed pictures and summary from a home inspection and tell me whether a project is urgent, or should just be watched. Universal wiring refused to even look at the paper inspection which has already been done, and insisted they must go out to the property to look at the property first. ($60) Unaccommodating, and with so many more helpful electricians in the area I can't see why anyone would choose this very expensive, unaccommodating, unhelpful company.

A/C problem: Louis came out Saturday morning and in 30 minutes had it up and running. Very nice, explained each problem area, had a few suggestions for the future, checked out the attic on both units.
They have been here before with similar efficiency on wiring needs.

Would like to have given a better review - because after Hurricane Ike Universal Wiring assisted with getting my power back on after a tree knocked out the line from my home to the pole - and Centerpoint couldn't get to it for another week. Back then, the price was good and they were a great help.
Fast forward to 2013. Asked them to come out for a bid on a new panel box. They charged $60 just to come look, then bid it over $6k. I sent them on their way, and the same exact work is being done by another reputable electrician for $1,500. They got their $60 out of me, so they probably don't care about a negative review. But be warned. And always get multiple bids!

We had a circuit breaker installed several years ago in sweltering heat. The Universal Wiring electrician came out on a weekend & worked until the breaker box was installed. No other electric service company could come until Monday.
I would also recommend Universal Wiring for ceiling fan installation. Great work.

This company installed an interior a/c coil, plenum, and dampers. Immedietly after the service my outside unit began making an insane noise upon start up. I called them back out 1.5 months later and they basically lied to me and said the system is leaking freon and oil and MUST be replaced. They quoted me over 4 quotes for different units. They also kept pushing a new furnace and there is nothing wrong with it.
I had One Hour AC come out after them and they said the compressor is fine, not leaking freon or oil. The oil in the bottom of my unit was from 2 years ago when the last one was replaced. One Hour was able to detect the system was OVER CHARGED and that was the problem. Basically Universal Home Experts caused the problem and i had to pay to fix it. I was not very happy with them and will never use them again.
