Company Overview

I see you are checking Yelp to find a contractor. I appreciate your interest in our profile. Choosing trustworthy companies on Yelp can be challenging for consumers. Yelp has a history of filtering reviews unfairly. If you don’t invest in them, only bad reviews will surface. This is why we show 2.5 stars on Yelp, but boast a 4.8-star rating on Google with 1500 reviews, plus an A rating on Angie's List with 750 reviews. We choose not to pay Yelp, resulting in only negative feedback being displayed. I suggest relying on Best Pick Reports or 5 Star Reports to find a trustworthy company. Is your home stuck because of plumbing, HVAC, or electrical issues? Get in touch with Universal Home Experts today for fast, on-time service from our experienced technicians. We have proudly served countless residents in the Houston metro area since 1992. Our reputation is built on having trained, background-checked, and drug-screened technicians who present upfront costs before commencing work. In the beginning, Universal specialized in remodeling older homes in the Heights, Garden Oaks, Montrose, and Museum District. In 2004, we redirected our efforts to serve homeowners with expert repair services. In 1986, Ed pursued his grandfather's legacy by becoming an electrician. He accumulated experience in multiple sectors, but his heart was always in residential remodeling. When he founded the business in 1992, he focused on his passion for remodeling older homes in the inner city of Houston. This experience has allowed him to train electricians who understand the best methods for making repairs in your home.

I don't often write reviews, but I feel compelled to this evening. I received some of the best customer service today from Universal Home Experts and their electrician, Daniel Perez, that I have received in Houston. I called Universal to repair my electrical service and surge protector, which had been severely damaged by last weekend's weather and had resulted in loss of power. Daniel came to the house and explained in detail a variety of options and costs to meet my needs. The options were not cheap, but fair. He made the repairs efficiently and insisted on waiting for CenterPoint to come to the house and turn the power back on. Daniel was done at noon and, long story short, CenterPoint finally arrived at my house around 7:45 (after multiple promises to be there sooner). He wanted to ensure that the electricity was hitting all of my outlets properly and wanted to also ensure that I was comfortable with the work. I probably would have bailed at some point if I had been Daniel, but he stuck it out and checked everything out once power was finally restored. That insistence to make me feel that the job was done properly has made me a customer for life. I highly recommend Universal Home Experts.

These folks are totally above board and fair. Electrician Mike Gustafson could have done what I asked and charged me $300 but he explained why it wasn't necessary and saved me a bundle. They answer the phone 24 hours a day. I called one night and they had Mike at my place the next day. He was able to get an a/c professional (Marlo) over the same day to address the real issue. Very well versed in their trade. Highly recommended.

I am very impressed with this company. I had three technicians, Danny, Mike, and Marlo come to my house and every single one of them was great; friendly, knowledgable, and professional!
They told me where I might run into problems in the future and gave me a price without being pushy. I am planning on signing up for their maintenance plan based on my initial experience with the company and the employees who represent Universal. It sure is nice to deal with one company instead of three!

Overpriced.

I had a simple job - I wanted to replace an old outlet with a new, AFCI outlet. When I called and asked how much, customer service said ""well, it depends on what the electrician finds."" That should have been a flashing red light; nevertheless, I went ahead and scheduled a service call.

The technician arrived 2 hours after the scheduled appointment. He didn't want to install an AFCI (he said they are ""too touchy"") so he recommended a standard outlet. Real simple job.

Before he started the job, he tried to sell me a new breaker box. He said it would cost $2,500. I told him to work up a written quote and I'd compare it to three other bids. After that, he dropped that suggestion.

He proceeded to do the work. After he finished, I watched as he worked up the bill. Basically, he had a book that listed services and charges. After I got the statement, I knew why customer service did not want to give me a quote -- according to HomeAdvisor.com, their charge was on the high end of the range of charges for such a job in the Houston area. There was nothing special about the service that justified a premium price.

Moral of the story -- if someone is dodgy about the cost of a simple, standard procedure, find someone else.

I called these folks out yesterday around 6:00 pm, they promptly showed up at 7:00 pm to service my electrical power switch on my furnace. I thought this company is going to be good to work with. That was until they wanted to charge me $2,050.00 to run 60 linear feet of wire back to the breaker box. They also wanted to change out my 6 year old breaker box, add needless surge protectors and re run my appliance wires for $5,900.00. I then called an honest company and he came out and with in an hour he changed out the burnt switch and a connection wire for 190.00. This company is clearly based on over selling. Just like John Moore, ABC Pest Pool and Lawn, ARS, etc. Don't fall for that.

Way too expensive, I would recommend checking around to get at least 3 other bids, however, great customer service.

In spite of (false) advertising and probably fake reviews, one can not get a simply, approximate price quote for a most simple job, such as a toilet installation!!!
You have to pay $59 for a guy to show up to give you a quote. If you don't like the price quoted you are out of your money and nthing will be done.
This is NOT a professional company. Stay AWAY !!!!!

Excellent company. Had some wiring replaced in my home and a new breaker box put in. Called for service and got an estimate. They came out the same day, did the work and got everything up to code. When I asked that the outside wiring be concealed they sent a tech back to change the wiring. This business puts customer service FIRST. Many companies today just want to collect a fee and be done. This company really goes the extra mile. The personnel does a great job communicating with the customer. They will call you back! The technicians are professional and very polite. Will be using them again.

I have to say I was very disappointed. I contacted this company because of their good reviews only to be told that they would not install a new water heater at my rental property even though I own the town house and I personally assured them they would be directly communicating/dealing with me the owner. The reason I was given is because they have had bad experiences with payment from tenants. Tenants are not responsible for repairs on rental properties the owner is responsible. I don't understand their reasoning; payment is always received at the time services is completed. I don't know what transpired between past rental property owners but I do know this about myself I am a very responsible person and it's insulting that I am being punished for something I did not have a hand in. So if you own rental property and need Universal Home Experts, I am passing along what was conveyed to me they don't do business with rental property owners. I'm disappointed but wish them well.
