Company Overview
Thern Electric & Solar supplies full-spectrum electrical solutions to residential clients, commercial entities, design professionals and interior decorators, along with various contractors. Established in 1985, we manage projects on residential properties, commercial buildings, wine-making establishments and sports complexes. We specialize in solar panel installations, power generators, and electric vehicle charging stations.
As a recognized Green Business, energy efficiency is a major concern at Thern. We monitor new energy-saving products and offer effective solutions to our clients.
At Thern, our focus is on excellence, client satisfaction, and pride in our work for each undertaking. Thern Electric & Solar began by Paul Kern and Leslie Stewart under the name The Electric Company. In the year 2003, when the company became incorporated, that name could not be used, leading to the new corporate name Thern Electric INC. In the year 2006, Dave Whitten became as the Vice President of the company. In 2011, solar energy solutions was included in the company name. Kern retired in the year 2010, and Stewart was appointed CEO.
Dave is a California Certified General Electrician, a contractor licensed in California, and a qualified installer of EV charging systems. He joined the team at Thern & Solar in 2000 and partnered in ownership in 2006. Dave has significant experience in all aspects of electrical work for corporate, private, and wine-making establishments. He is deeply committed to energy efficiency for both the firm (qualifying Thern as a Certified Green Business in the year 2009) and our customers by overseeing the retrofit of high-efficiency lighting and energy-saving devices to achieve notable reductions in energy use. He conducts energy monitoring and develops comprehensive reports on usage. He has set up many types of lighting automation systems (LiteTouch systems, Vantage technology, Homeworks, Wattstopper, Lutron Radio RA technology, Radio RA2, Grafik Eye technology, and various other systems). He was born in the city of San Francisco, relocating to Napa as a young man. Dave is a husband and father of two. He also coaches his kid's baseball team.

Recommended Customer Reviews

Called left two messages too busy to reply within a week finally got on the phone with the owner simply said too busy and quickly hung up. Must be nice but the customer service sucked.

I had numerous issues with the wiring in my home from the person who originally did the wiring. Thern Electric was referred to me. They were undaunted by my numerous issues. Work began and after a few weeks I noted a theft in my home in the area where they were working. When I discussed the issue with the project manager he became dogmatic and aggressive suggesting that they weren't responsible. However, the only change was the worker in that room. The issue was not resolved nor any apology offered. I could have changed companies but I had no complaint about the work. I asked for a different employee who I felt had more integrity and the work was completed satisfactorily.

I love Thern Electric. They have helped me on my residential projects, commercial projects and spent hours helping me choose the best PV system for my home.
For both the residential and commercial projects they helped me choose fixtures that are energy efficient, beautiful and fit in my budget.
Before Thern wired my kitchen it was dark and now it is my favorite place to hang out! The electrician had to crawl around in the attic, pull wires and hang pendants from a very high vaulted ceiling! He was polite, neat and tidy, and very professional.
The commercial project involved low voltage tracks. The heads on the tracks are super small have filters to adjust the light perfectly and are controlled with dimmers to create just the right feeling. The best is that my bill which is always low.
Speaking of bills, after the PV system was installed at my home--my bill went from almost $400 to $15 and summer is not even here yet! The best part of dealing with Thern is how patient they are. My husband and I had tons of questions, do we lease, how do the tax credits work, do we buy the system out right, is it best to finance, on and on. They were so helpful and make the experience very enjoyable.
Great job Thern!

These guys are great. I have had them do 4 projects for me - big and small- over the past 8 or so years. They are very professional, reasonably priced, and very nice. I had a main breaker go out on a rental house of mine on a Friday afternoon. I put in a call to Thern on Monday morning, they hooked up a generator on Monday so the tenants could have hot water, then Tuesday managed to get a permit pulled, have PG&E disconnect the main power line, replace the entire antiquated breaker panel, rewire everything and have PG& E hook back up. All done by the end of the day. I couldnt believe it could get fixed so fast. They even took the picked up and returned the generator to the rental place for me. Super service.
