The Thinking Man's Handyman
Company Overview
We aim to satisfy our clients by crafting their dreams into tangible results, day by day.
This company was born out of my experience with a moving service.
I handled jobs such as picture hanging, TV mounting, and bed assembly.
I dedicated my evenings to helping customers until I parted ways with the moving company.
The few clients I had propelled my business into high gear, and I was operational within the week.
Now, two years and three part-time staff members later, I continue to grow, grateful to the clients who have contacted me and trusted me with their projects.
I bring 35 years of construction experience, having worked both on-site and as a foreman and superintendent for Starbucks Coffee.
My extensive experience allows me to understand nearly every part of the construction trade, and I have a passion for my work.

Jon did an amazing job on a project many were not willing to take on. We have very old windows in our 1927-built house and the casings were rotting out. Because the windows were not tempered he had to take great care when removing the wood which meant no power tools--they would have shattered the glass. He had to dig out the rotting wood with simple hand tools while taking care to not break this 8'x10' window! He did it patiently and methodically and saved our window. He then had to have a special piece of wood milled to fit under the window for the new casing. He knew where to go, who to talk to, and how to proceed in order to fix what we had been told would be unfixable. He also removed the old security bars and the window is now the crowning jewel of our house...not the rotting eyesore that it was. We are so grateful!

I found Jonathan during the holidays ... Between Xmas and New years ... A pipe burst inside my storage space in my house! Water everywhere, and I could not find anyone to help! I had to turn off all the water to the house until this could be fixed. He was a referral from a referral from a referral ... one of those crazy stressed out things. He arrived and diagnosed the problem. It took him 2 days to fix it because the leak was inside a wall, and jammed in super close to other pipes, SO hard to get to! He had to saw out the damaged pipe, and replace it with a blow torch! DIFFICULT - WET & DIRTY! He persevered, and got it done. In the end he charged me about half what a plumber would have charged. Much less than I expected. It's been 2 months now (I waited to see if problems would return) and all is working well! A good man ... A GOOD JOB! I highly recommend him.

Jon just completed several jobs for me - - from big (bracing our wobbly deck) to small (patching wear-and-tear holes on interior walls). He was on time and professional, but he also went above and beyond. He was great with our dog and kind to our son, who has special needs. I highly recommend Jon and look forward to hiring him again.

I had a long list of jobs and John was able to check off everything after 2 days. He even offered to come back and install a part that I have to order. Very reasonable rates, dog-friendly, people friendly and very good work. Highly recommend.

I'm disappointed by my interaction with Jon.
We made an appointment, and when he didn't show up, I realized I hadn't texted him my address. But after doing so, he asked to change the appointment time. Since we had previously exchanged text messages, he could have easiliy asked me for my address prior to the appointment.
This gave me a pretty bad feeling about working with him, so I let him know later wasn't ok and that I was cancelling the appointment. He called me to find out why and admitted he had overslept.
Perhaps this was an off day for Jon, but between this experience and initially speaking on the phone with him where he told me he was driving and texting and looking at his phone at the same time made me unconfident in hiring him. It seems like people are very happy with him, but I'm a person who really wants to work with people who are buttoned up in all aspects of their business.
Edit: Just received an text message from Jon. Upset with this replied he replied with a tone of, ""Oh, you're gonna be like that?"" saying he overslept because he had an emergency call at 4:30AM. He had multiple opportunities to mention this to me through text and also our phone conversation. He never once mentioned this emergency call which leads me to be extremely dubious of his claim.
Again, I haven't experienced or seen his work, but I didn't appreciate his tone nor his excuses.

Jonathan is a handyman in the truest sense of that word. He does nearly everything and at a reasonable rate. After conferring with a number of other handyman, I found Jonathan and right off the bat he was able to answer questions and offer practical solutions that others did not offer up, which is a testament to his overall well-rounder experience. We just moved into our new house and had to do repairs in that house and the old one. Here's a list (incomplete) of the things he did (and did well) over the last three months: remove and install a sink, put in a new hood and cooktop, install an oven, fix a wooden gate, install wiring, install a new ceiling light, repair my brick walkway, fix and stucco a wall, re-grout my shower and tub, install security cameras, put in bathroom tile, and level a door. I highly recommend him.

Jon of TTMH came to help replaced a few of our natural stone (slate) tiles in our guest shower/bathroom (see pic) that were starting to erode (over time). I called him, and after that I texted him the pictures of what's needed to be done. Gave me his estimates which I find very reasonable. Came in ready next day with his tools and start working right away. Cleaned up (really good, given the amount of dust from grinding the grout and busting the slate), also he did extra work on fixing the sticky bathroom door without additional charge.
If you are looking for a good handyman that pays attention to detail, explains what's needed to be done and how he's going to approach the job (no surprises) , clean, and organized the call Jon of The Thinking Man's Handyman now!

I wanted to replace my window AC with a new one and needed some one to do it for me. Jon was great and installed my AC the very next day after calling him. It was great work and truly secured my new window AC. Definitely will be calling Jon back to do more work.

We needed some sprinkler system repairs. I found Jon on Yelp and he was here the same day. I was very impressed with him, his work, and his honesty. His prices are very reasonable and I should know. I have been hiring people to do maintenance work for our condo building since 1975. He ranks among the top. I highly recommend him and we will definitely be using his services in the future.

Jon Hughes is indeed the ""thinking man's handyman."" He is smart, conscientious, detail-oriented, industrious and also an extremely nice person. Jon is on time for scheduled appointments, provides reliable and very fair-priced estimates and, in an emergency, as we had recently, he is there for you within hours. Jon understands quality and doesn't cut corners to save a few nickels for himself. It is obvious he takes pride in the work he accomplishes. I have recommended Jon to another family member who was as pleased with Jon's work as my husband and I have been. Jon Hughes, The Thinking Man's Handyman, is definitely a phone number I have posted for quick use when needed. You won't be disappointed. Jon does it all: painting, plumbing, electrical, miscellaneous repairs, moving and believe it or not even helped my husband who was recovering from surgery bury a deceased small animal --- clearly an unusual house call!!. I don't think Jon has the word NO in his vocabulary. He will be there for you as he was for us. We rate Jon with 5 stars --- excellent service and very positive attitude.
