Our Austin license dates back to 1982, originally working on the revitalization of downtown Austin, transforming historic buildings into restaurants and shops. Over the years, our focus has shifted from commercial to residential work, gaining fulfillment from completing projects for homeowners, enhancing home safety, improving their quality of life and ensuring new installations function properly. We continue to work with a few commercial customers, like a prominent silk screen and embroidery firm, several restaurants, hotels, a variety of property managers and renovation contractors.
I hail from South Dakota, I became licensed in Austin in 1982. While I wasn't born in Texas, I made my way here as soon as I could! My father was an electrical contractor, I began my career in the field as a teenager. I passed my first Master Electrical Contractor exam at 24 in 1976. I have four grown children, and I also have four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. During my spare time, I often volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, or running in local fun runs that benefit various charities.

Terrible experience- avoid this company! I don't even know where to start with this one. Everything started out ok, Jeff showed up on time and quoted a reasonable cost to install an outdoor fan and outlets, and add an additional outlet to a bedroom. This was scheduled to take place over two visits. He had two of his coworkers come to do the indoor work on one visit and they were pretty careless- punched through the wall in the wrong spot so had to repair a softball size hole in the wall, gashed the wall when they moved the dresser, broke a piece off the crawl space door, and left the gate open when they left (our dogs did get loose but were recovered quickly). All of this was annoying but understandable and the men were very polite and apologetic about the walls. They said they would paint them on their return visit. Mistakes happen, no big deal.
So then we tried to schedule the next visit and Jeff said it would be a certain date two weeks in advance. I scheduled this time off of work so I could be home. I texted him the day before to confirm since I hadn't heard anything. He had no record of our appointment even though it was on the same text thread. And said it would be an additional two weeks-ugh! I also very politely mentioned the paint touch ups that the other guys said they would take care of and he flew off the handle. Got incredibly defensive and said that was all part of the risks of having work done in your home, how careful his guys are, etc. Ok this dude is crazy, but I calmed him down so I could get the rest of the work taken care of. We told him we would do the paint touchups ourselves some other time.
They did show up at the next appointment on time and completed the work. I thought the saga was over and refrained from writing a bad review because I didn't want to impact a small business. Fast forward to six months later and one of the outlets has stopped working. When I contacted Jeff about his ""lifetime warranty"" he told me that electronics weren't covered and they don't cover anything made in china and to ""talk to the Chinese about that"". He sourced the outlet and installed it so if he had a problem with non-American made parts he could have chosen something else. Also, he was incredibly rude and essentially said it wouldn't be covered before even looking at it. Find someone else for your electrical work!!!

I have used Jeff for years and like any small business he has had challenges keeping up with the growth. Jeff has hired several new journeymen to help and my recent experiences with them have been nothing but FANTASTIC. Keep small businesses alive! Call Tech with confidence

I've had Jeff and Tech Electric do plenty of work at our current and previous house. They've always showed up when scheduled, done good work efficiently at a fair price, been knowledgeable about what they were doing and happy to explain if you ask. I've been satisfied enough to call them repeatedly whenever we need new fixtures, switches or breakers installed -- and I'm about to call them again.

This was a ridiculous experience. Don't use this company. I called Jeff to ask about rates for a simple job of hanging two brand new pendant lights and troubleshooting an outlet in a new house. I was quoted 60.00 for the first 1/2 hour and 60.00 for each additional hour. Plain and simple. So he sends two electricians and I get charged 180.00 for 1.5 hours. The receipt says ""Time 1.5 hrs. Material."" I called to ask for clarification and Jeff left me a rambling voicemail saying that ""material"" was probably for nuts and bolts etc (WHAT? FOR BRAND NEW ROBERT ABBEY FIXTURES? PRETTY SURE EVERYTHING NEEDED WAS IN THE BOX AND THAT IF NOT, NUTS AND BOLTS COST .15) He also went on to state that he paid more than that for the electricians' social security and that the rate should have been double what I was quoted. HUH? Why would you send two electricians for a basic job in the first place (none of the other FOUR electrical companies I've used have ever done that). And if that is the case, then you SAY THAT UPFRONT and don't try to double bill the client after the fact. And what about that 60.00 ""material"" fee, Jeff? This seems very shady and I do NOT recommend this company at all. No materials were used on this job at all and that is obvious to anyone. PS there was nothing wrong with the outlet either so that wasn't it!

No show!
Had a set appointment two weeks in advance with a one hour window. Two hours after that window passed, I contacted the business. They didn't get back to me until 6 hours after the appointment time. I got a rude email saying the electrician was running late, that his cell phone had died so he couldn't contact me, and also that he tried to show up 3 hours after the appointment but the person at home had no idea what he was talking about so he just left. Didn't check he had the right address, the obvious thing to do. One bad excuse after another. It was a major headache. Avoid!

My house, built in 1940 with decaying cloth-wrapped wires, was basically an electrical fire waiting to happen. I hired Tech Electric to run new wires to all outlets, lighting fixtures, and appliances, as well as install grounded outlets and place a few new plugs. As Jeff warned us, this was a big job - it took nearly two weeks to complete (and was definitely worth it, for the peace of mind knowing that my house won't blow up). Robert was polite, efficient, and took time to explain issues as they arose. The final bill was actually less than the estimate, since we added a few extra items along the way. I would definitely hire them again.

We are brand new home owners and were slightly freaked out during our home inspection, as the inspector mentioned that our wiring was ""fire prone;"" not an adjective you want to hear describe the spot you've just sunk every dime of worldly wealth into. Our realtor recommended Tech Electric to replace our box and rewire our house. They were easy to book, were curious while working, and charged exactly what they had estimated -- we couldn't have asked for anything more. All now works well and fire danger seems to be averted!

Prompt, professional, and courteous! I have to say, I got referred to these guys by Beaver Real Estate, who has used them for their property management business for years. They couldn't say enough good things about Jeff, Joe, and Robert at Tech Electric. I have to agree. I had many things wrong electrically to my ""older"" home and Tech Electric fixed them all. They were knowledgable and fast, and now it all works. I would definitely recommend them and use them again. Reasonable prices too!

I hired Tech Electric to update the wiring in my house and it was an awful experience. I had problems for months afterwards, and even though they would come out for no additional charge to fix their mistakes, it was still a huge hassle. My circuits would overload and shut down constantly because they put in breakers that weren't right for my house. And I wasn't running 37 hairdryers at once. I'm talking about having an overhead light on in the kitchen and trying to use my consumer grade blender. Then, suddenly...TOTAL DARKNESS. Maybe these guys are good with new construction, but they seem pretty clueless about older homes.

Jeff & his assistant installed a new outdoor security light for a good price. They were both friendly, and the install looks good.
I plan to use Tech Electric again for some other electrical work in my house. If that work goes well then I'll give them 5 stars - I chose 4 stars because I've only used Tech Electric once.
