Company Overview

TEA Solar specializes in solar power installations. Often called photovoltaics, solar systems for both residences and commercial spaces significantly reduce your reliance on traditional utility providers. Choosing solar brings excellent economic benefits while also contributing greatly to environmental health. Solar harnesses the endless photons emitted by the sun to create energy that powers your premises. This process helps lower greenhouse gas emissions and improves our living conditions on the planet. We look forward to collaborating with you to meet your energy needs.

TEA Solar originated in 2007 under the name Technical Electrical. Technical Electrical holds a C-10 license from the California State License Board. We focused on residential and small commercial wiring. For three-plus years, we provided consulting services for utility smart meter programs. Recently, we have dedicated our efforts to solar energy solutions. Technical Electrical and Solar is now known as TEA Solar. We work alongside utility providers including PG&E, Merced Irrigation District, Turlock Irrigation District, and Modesto Irrigation District. We advocate for our customers to own their systems and enjoy all the advantages of ownership instead of leasing and missing out on rebates and tax credits.

I became an electrician in 2003, coinciding with my marriage that same year. In 2007, I was granted a C-10 contractor's license. I also hold a general electrician card from California's Department of Industrial Relations. I am certified as a PV Installation Professional and PV Technical Sales Professional by NABCEP. My team consists of nine dedicated employees who have contributed to our success. We strive to offer the best quality and value possible. We are passionate about engaging with the community and supporting local businesses.

We hired Tea Solar and have been extremely disappointed. One star is too high of a rating for this company. They have never finished the job and refuse to answer their phones or email for months. Never ever hire this company to do anything for you. They won't follow through and will ghost you.

I loved them at first, they had great costumer service and was also communicating great with us. Now it has been about 4 years and I called to have them check my equipment due to PGE stating I am not producing enough energy. I called and left a message 1 week later a lady calls me back and asks if my transmitter was working, I was on the road at the time and asked if she could just look at the monitors and let me know, she stated she had not been trained to do that I asked her why was she the one to call back if all she could do was ask me if my transmitter was working. She then told me she would have someone call me back who can help me 4 weeks later multiple messages left and still no call back!! I am now having to call the solar manufacture and hope they can help. I STONGLY SUGGEST TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE . They were very communicative at first but after getting my business they are no longer communicating

The solar system we purchased from Tea Solar stopped working 3 or 4 weeks ago, this system is still under warranty yet I cannot get Tea Solar to return my call to schedule the repair. I have called and left messages every other day for the last three weeks.

We purchased our solar system in 2016, last week my husband noticed that it isn't working so he called in to have their tech come out and see what needs to be done, it has been 5 days and he still hasn't received a callback. I call again today and was told I would hear back from someone today and still nothing.

Originally, I was very happy with the service provided by TEA Solar and owner Matt. Unfortunately, I receive two bad Solar Edge inverters that had to be replaced within the same year. But between the time the inverters went out and when it got replaced, my panels were not producing electricity, which caused my annual True Up to be over $700 instead of under $100! Anyway, make sure you read your solar contract carefully because the things they tell you when trying to earn your business IS NOT TRUE, even if it's in the contract. For example, in my contract, it states that installer will monitor the performance of my system and if there is a shortfall of the wattage promised (something they called guaranteed performance), the install shall pay for the difference. All a LIE! When I pointed this out to Matt, and ask him to help me pay for the bill since the system he installed did not delivered the promised wattage stated on the contract, he told me that I should be monitoring my system and that he would not help. He referred me to Solar Edge, saying it's not his fault that the inverters went out and that I need to talk to Solar Edge. I spoke to Solar Edge and they told me to talk to the installer. Bunch of BS! No one will take responsibility and I, the customer, has to bite the bullet and pay for this huge bill? I honestly don't get it...if you're not going to do it, DON'T PUT IT IN YOUR CONTRACT!

Going with this solar company may have been my worse mistake thus far. After paying $30 something thousands for this system, I expect to get what I paid for. Is that so much to ask?

If you read the other reviews, I will agree with the professionalism, help, and patience UP TO THE POINT OF INSTALLATION. I've never written a negative review, but feel compelled on this one...
When it comes to the post-installation process and any problems that may arise, Matt receives an ""F"" for follow-up and communication - at least in our experience. We had our system installed in December 2017 and are currently in the process of replacing our inverters for the THIRD TIME. When we experienced our second failed inverter, Matt became very hostile when we asked for the status on the delivery of our new inverter. We have never been rude or pushy; however, I guess he perceived this as ""pushy"" even though we had had no communication prior to following up. As of July 3rd this year, one of our inverters is completely out AGAIN -- this is one that one just replaced last summer. From prior experience dealing with Matt, we know we may be down 2-3 weeks and this is peak production time. We sent a text message on Friday (during business hours) informing him of the problem and asking where we go from here. No reply. Not even an ""I'll get back to you"". Because he did not respond to our text, we called the cell phone number LISTED ON HIS BUSINESS CARD the next day. Granted it was July 4th, but we were just expecting to leave a message asking if Matt could please come Monday to take a look. Instead he answered the phone and literally came unglued on my husband. We are nice people. We show respect even if we feel wronged. On the other hand, Matt SCREAMED that he had read our text and then proceeded to chastise my husband for calling him on his ""personal phone"" (even though it is the number HE GAVE US and the number that is PRINTED ON HIS BUSINESS CARD). Matt continued to read my husband the riot act for calling him on a holiday and his day off. This tirade went on for quite some time. All my husband could do was just hold the phone and let him go off. Not sure why Matt answered the phone if it was such an intrusion. We were just going to leave a message. We are now trying to resolve the issue ourselves. 3 failed inverters in 2-1/2 years? There's definitely a problem and SolarEdge totally agrees. Matt finally reached out to us 3 days later by text simply asking when my husband could be near the inverter to read some numbers off the display. First of all, there is no display screen on our inverter. That is old technology as SolarEdge can confirm. Secondly, there was absolutely no acknowledgment or apology for his horrible behavior. Meanwhile, we dealt with SolarEdge directly. They were very courteous, patient, and helped us with the process of switching to another solar company to administer our system. Bottom line, we had the new inverter ordered, received, and installed within one week.
Matt is very knowledgeable and helpful on the front end. We appreciated that at the time as have his other clients. I don't know what triggered this recent outburst, but wrong is wrong. Hopefully no one else has to experience what we did although you may hear the same description from former employees and others in the industry. When he's nice, he's very very nice. But when he's not?... It's definitely as unprofessional as it gets.

I was referred to TEA but a family member that was happy with their panels and installation they got. From the beginning Matt was extremely helpful and professional. He took time to give us quotes on different systems and explained them each in terms we could understand. Only took 3 days of installation and months later we have had zero problems. The panels are producing as they should and they look great. He did an amazing job of making the panels looks nice on our roof, no exposed wires or visible pipes, just nice low profile panels. Very happy with all TEA has done for us!

I had a large solar system installed at a rental complex. TEA Solar did an excellent job with the entire installation and I was very satisfied and now enjoy good solar power generation. Matt was my main contact and he was on top of everything which made the process smooth. Several months later, I needed some help with PG&E paperwork to link the solar account for billing offset and they recommended I contact the solar installer to help fill out. TEA Solar agreed to help (I think it takes 10 minutes) and I called and emailed many times, after a few months I got no help unfortunately, so 1 star off for this unfortunate customer service follow up experience.

As a shop owner, we use a lot of electricity in our shop and after years of paying hundreds of dollars per month, we decided to pull the plug and go Solar, not only to save money, but to help the planet :) We contacted Tea Solar, and the consultant showed up to our place, explained everything and before we know it we made the deal. Mitch Boehs was really nice and explained everything, and answered all our questions. Our next plan is to go solar on our house, we highly recommend Tea solar, Once again Thank you!!!

After finally making the decision to have solar installed on my house, I realized how many choices I had. A friend told me about Matt and the team at TEA Solar. The team at TEA Solar was very accommodating and was even able to make it out to my house the next day to discuss my options. The main reason I'm giving them 5 stars is because of their honesty. I had a quote from another solar company and TEA Solar indicated they could install the same system if I'd like, but demonstrated to me in an in depth demonstration why the system I was first quoted was an overkill, thus immediately saving money. I take my 5 stars very seriously...but I was so impressed with the responsiveness and professionalism of TEA Solar from the very beginning of the process to the very end that I had to give them 5. They also have a great referral program!!
