In 2010, Tony Espinosa of STS Electric, was the first electrician I had ever hired. I had him install 5 ceiling fans and a small chandelier in my newly purchased home. Tony also convinced me that an attic fan would be a great idea to keep the attic and home cooler; I ended up hiring him for that as well. I received several bids from various electricians and he was by far the least expensive. Since then I have learned that you get what you pay for...
In 2010, my review would have been a 3 or 4, because all the work seemed completed reasonably well, but definitely not perfectly. In some rooms many more holes were made in the ceiling drywall than I was expecting, but again, Tony's price was low. Unfortunately, it did cost quite a bit to pay a different contractor to patch and paint the ceiling drywall.
Tony's job spanned multiple days, and he didn't show up when he said he would on two occasions; one time he had what seemed to be a very good excuse, so I just accepted those missed appointments even though they did inconvenience me quite a bit.
When the job was finally completed, Tony told me he didn't want his wife to know how much he had earned on my job so he was going to immediately cash my check at my bank, rather than depositing it into his account at his bank. That seemed odd, especially when he warned me that my bank would be calling me to confirm that they could cash the large check, indicating that he had done this previously. The bank did call within 30 minutes of his departure to confirm they could cash the check. I have never had anything like that happen with any other contractor.
The reason for the 1 star rating was discovered this year (2012) because of the poor installation of the attic fan. Earlier this summer, the attic fan starting rattling so badly that it sounded like an earthquake in the kitchen on the FIRST FLOOR when the attic fan was installed in the attic above the SECOND FLOOR. In the second floor room just below the attic fan, it got so noisy that it sounded like a jet engine. It was so bad that I thought a fan blade must have been broken, considering the HORRIBLE noises coming from the attic. I actually went and bought a new fan and hired a handyman go up and install the new fan. He went up into the attic and immediately suggested that I go up there as well to look. I am no expert, but I noted that the fan Tony installed was only attached to the attic vent with 3 screws even though the attic fan had 9 screw holes. The three screws Tony used had become a little loose causing the horrible rattling. In addition, I noted that junction box near the attic fan did not have a cover. ( I am not an electrician, but exposed wires seem bad to me.) Anyway, after 6 more screws were used to secure the existing attic fan, the noise went away and the old fan was great. I don't understand why Tony didn't take the time to properly install the attic fan with all required screws in the first place. That would really have saved me a lot of hassle, time and money.
In summary, I don't think the work done by Tony was very good. I am a little worried about the wiring done in the places that I can't see. I hope it is safe.

We have some electrical problems that were noted in our home inspection report when we bought our home, so I filled out a Service Magic.com request for an electrician and an hour later Tony with STS calls my cell. Great so far, prompt awesome. So I make an appointment with Tony two weeks in advance since he was not available to do work after hours. Rearranged my entire schedule to work from home today and he didn't show up. When I called to see what was up, he responds, "" You had an appointment with my company?, no you must be mistaken"" - Um Ok first of all, you freaking called me- not the other way around so how can I be mistaken. No I am not mistaken; I confirmed the appointment with you three times on the phone and then put it directly onto my calendar. Second, it is OK I get it mistakes happen- but own up to them. If he would have said, Oh my I am so sorry- It must have dropped off my calendar or given me any indication of remorse I would have understood.
Then he tells me I am almost back to the office- I will call you back when I get there. So I wait, and wait and wait- No call. So I call to see if he is going to be able to make it out today..No answer--I am sorry but that is just too un-professional for me. We have a different electrician coming in about an hour.

Tony was great, very professional, on-time and competitively priced. My condo building has a crazy process for contractors to do work, and he handled it all quickly and managed the whole process.

Tony said he was going to come back to finish job for me, but never did. I'd call him once every couple of weeks for a couple of months, but he wouldn't even return my calls. I guess I shouldn't have paid him the $2500.00 in full. Workmanship below average. Not much I can do about it except write it here.
