As a locally owned business started in August 2003. The owner, Darren has more than 30 years of knowledge in the electrical industry. We have a team of six employees who bring an impressive nearly three decades of combined experience. In the years leading up to launching Straight Line Electric, the owner worked for various local businesses but understood he could provide better service to the community by treating each client with the respect they deserve. Through ensuring quality work the initially, maintaining high standards and being completely transparent, he was confident this set of values would create a win-win relationship for Straight Line Electric and, more importantly, the clients. That approach was the ideal method to establish a service and it is the right way to grow a dedicated clientele through personal referrals, keeping our current clients and strong ties with community partners.
Hello, I’m Darren Howery, founder of Straight Line Electric. Born and raised in Ojai, I completed my education at Nordhoff High School in the class of 1985. I started my path in the field of electricity in the fall of 1986. In the early years, I spent time in Santa Barbara as an electrical technician. After that, I moved back to Ojai in 1990. In 1993, I connected with Jennifer, who would later become my amazing wife in the year 1995. We welcomed our son Dillon was born in the same year. They motivate me to do better and push me to deliver exceptional service for every single one of my customers. Whenever I encounter one of my customers, I want to approach them with a warm ""hello"" and shake their hand. I do not wish to avoid from them or hope they wouldn’t notice me first. I will never do that. I stand by in fair compensation for quality work, and that’s the essence of my business in a nutshell.

Darren had come out to replace a breaker last year. Everything worked great....until a couple of months ago. Then, strange things happened. I don't have lights on unless I really need them. But in my room, lights began flickering, the t.v. kept turning off, and then on, off and on, my two lamps kept flickering on and off. Then half the outlets/plugs went dead. The outside lights went dead. It was getting weird. So I called, left a message that either my house was going to blow up or I had Poltergeist and ghosts habitating here. I'm sure the lady thougt I was a nut! But too many weird things were going on.
An employee of Darren's showed up, but he didn't quite get the whole ghost part. Then (thank goodness) Darren drove up. He remembered me and said he likes to service the customers he has helped previously. He said he'd check the breaker box first. He came back and said I had a burned out breaker, which he replaced. He assumed that was the end of it.
I said, ""oh no, we've got more going on."" I asked him to check the dead outlets in the other room. He checked one, and said, ""yep, no power"". Then he checked another one. Same thing no power. Then another and another. Over ten outlets had no power, the wiring was faulty, the switchplate was cracked...and on and on.
Long story short, Darren was there for 5 hours, testing and pulling out every bad outlet wires hanging, room by room, methodically. He was so nice, funny, we joked around. He replaced wiring, put new outlets in, new plates, put in missing bullbs, switched dimmers to regular switches, fixed the outside lights and wiring.
He undercharged me, I told him that. But a lot of stuff he did for no charge. He charged me for 3 hours of work. But he was there for 5 hours!
Just a nice, kind, cool guy who worked his butt off so I wouldn't have to worry about ghosts or lights going off and on and the t.v. shutting off and then coming back on.
Very professional, polite, respectful and honest. I recommend Straight Line Electric and Darren, the owner. I needed help asap - and he was there dedicated to fixing everything! Thanks Darren!

These guys are the best, we bought an old home with faulty wiring throughout. Straightline rewired the entire place to make it safe, under budget and ahead of schedule!

I made an apointment and two electricians came out on time and ready to fix our three problems. All three were done efficiently and correctly. Excellent service

We had to upgrade our ""box"" when we put in a new air and Heating system. As per usual, it was a lot of red tape with the city and 13 trips for someone to look at the same hole in the ground and wall. Darren was so great to work with; he was always available, always answered calls promptly, came on a moments notice when some guy showed up with a clip board and questions and did not ask for payment until the job was complete.
His professionalism and sense of humor ensure he will always be my top choice for electrical work. We have had no problems with any of the work that was done.
Straight Line made what could have been a stressful situation smooth and easy for me.

I've heard of Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. I can change a lightbulb and flip a switch. Since that's all I know about electricity, I can be taken for a ride by an unscrupulous contractor.
I've used Straight Line a number of times over the years and can say that integrity is foundational to their business model.
When I called them to the house today I didn't know if I had a big problem or a little one. Turns out I didn't have much of a problem at all. Steve Jones checked everything thoroughly, answered all my questions, and gave me good advice. Though his having found nothing wrong was very valuable information to me, they didn't charge me for the service call.
In a world where there seems to be less and less good and more and more strife, it's nice to find people who do business like this.

Straightline installed a dimmer switch and hung a chandelier for me. They were quick, professional and did an excellent job. They even showed up early for the quote and installation. So glad I called Straightline Electric.

Great company! Just had an emergency electrical issue. A breaker went out on a condo project we were working on. It halted our work and would have been very costly to us but Straight line can out and fixed it in a jiffy. Very pleasant office staff and easy to communicate with. I am now a loyal customer.

Courteous and communicative, an excellent diagnostician. Solved and remedied our problem quickly. Now we know who to call when we have an electrical issue!

Straight Line Electric was very good. We were having weird power problems but only at night. During the day they were able to track down and figure out that it was the main circuit breaker to the house.
Stephen replaced it, cleaned up the connectors and then double checked that everything was good.

This is my third time using Straightline Electric. Since I can't post another review I'm updating this one. 5 stars through and through. Hired Darren for a panel upgrade, recess lighting, chandelier install, sub panel install and many other needed upgrades on my new home. His crew was professional, clean and respectful. They once again went above and beyond taking care of my electrical system needs. They treat you as if they were working on their own home. Excellent work and in a timely manner. Job well done again. Props to Steve their journeyman / foreman and the rest of the crew for all their hard work.
Fantastic company, work, employees and customer service. Quoted me over the phone for relocating a smoke detector and putting a fan in its place. Plus the quote was more affordable than other local electric companies. I purchased a very reputable brand fan with a light. The fan unfortunately was defective out of the box. They tried everything to balance with no success. So I quickly exchanged the fan for a new one. They came right back and installed the 2nd new fan. Believe it or not the second fans motor was fried and didn't work at all. The two employees from straight line electric told me they were shocked that two fans from that reputable company didn't work out of the box. They felt so bad that they themselves took the fan back to lowes and exchanged it for a new one. They inspected the new fan at lowes to ensure it would work. They came back and installed it and it's perfect. This type of customer service is long gone in our modern world. It's good to see a company and its employee care so much. I highly recommend you call straight line for anything of you electrical needs.
