I called Ian on a Friday to request a quote to install two ceiling fans that required running wire and putting in the junction boxes and wall switches in two rooms. On Saturday, he gave me a quote with a breakdown of some things that might determine the final job costs, and was very clear and put it in writing. We set a time for Monday afternoon with a backup time for Wednesday just in case. His crew called on Monday afternoon and asked if they could come by a half hour early as they were ahead of schedule. They did a phenomenally quick, clean, and great job with minimal wall cutting to run the wiring, while leaving our place spotless! I would rate more than 5 stars if I could. It's one thing to

My West LA condo building is managed by Vines Management (now acquired by LB Property Management), who chose Mike Castro at South Bay Electric as our building's electrician over 10 years ago. We've used Mike multiple times. He installed exterior motion sensor safety lighting around the building, repaired exhaust fans in our corridors, and repaired fluorescent fixtures in our garage. Thankfully, we don't have an excessive number of electrical problems so we don't have to call Mike a lot, but he's been reliable, pleasant, and professional every time. He always makes time for our needs.

UPDATE FEB. 2020: Had some lights go dead after resetting some circuit breakers. Called Mike at So. Bay and he was extremely helpful in fitting me into his busy schedule. He had just returned from a short vacation the night before but let me know he could drop by if I could wait until the evening. He confirmed our appointment later today and arrived about 30 minutes later. He diagnosed the problem right away and took care of replacing the defective breakers in a flash. This guy is the BEST. I wouldn't call anybody else unless Mike was just too booked and it was an emergency. If you can wait for his schedule to open you won't be sorry. He is honest and knows his stuff. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This is the second electrician I tried based upon Yelp reviews. The first didn't call back, so I went to this one. I can't explain the reason for my bad luck, but after leaving two voice messages within one week, I have yet to receive a call back. From either company actually. This might be part of the reason contractors have a generally bad reputation. Anyway, this has been my only exposure to Yelp and it has been underwhelming. I created an account just to be able to put in my 2 cents. Bottom line, I hope I have been an exception. Based on all the other reviews I feel I must be, but nonetheless, it happened and I can only provide the lowest possible rating as a result. This Yelp experience has wasted 2 weeks as I patiently waited for calls that never came. I have since gone with a company selected outside of Yelp and it has been what a paying customer would expect. Prompt call back, appointment made, appointment kept, etc.

We called around about getting an estimate to get our electrical sub panel in our garage fixed. He was able to come out the same day and even fix it when he was there. He was quick and fixed our water heater plug by replacing it with a longer cord, now it reaches the outlet without an extension plug. Great job!
