I'm not just a client of Solomon Electric, I'm also a Licensed General Contractor here in SD, Ca. We've been using Phillip and his son for almost five years. I usually do all of my own basic electrical work, but when we're too busy or in over our heads, Phillip is on speed dial. He's probably done 15 or 20 jobs for us, everything from fixing my bonehead mistakes to rewiring entire houses when we're doing a remodel. I don't just hire him based on his skill, though beyond question he knows his stuff, and it's not only cuz his pricing is totally legit (take it from someone in the industry, IT'S LEGIT), but it's also because he and Jr. are stand up guys. He's retired Navy and it shows... straight to the solution, never drones on about the problem, SUPER clean work ~ to the point that I bet if he were blind folded his work would still pass the strictest of inspections.
As for the kind of man he is, one day I went to pay him after he finished a small job and didn't have my wallet on me, Phil takes out his and offers to loan me $20 so I wasn't driving around without lunch money!!! I laughed cuz I had just eaten but if that doesn't show the kind hearted nature of a man, what will?
So here's the bottom line, if you want a super nice guy who's trustworthy and worth EVERY penny you will spend, don't even think of calling anyone else. I know I wouldn't even consider the thought.

Phil upgraded an 2 prong outlet to a grounded 3-prong for me. On time, on budget, courteous and willing to answer questions.
He offered to come back and tack down the grounding wire for me if I ever remove my tub from the bathroom.

Would call him again without hesitation.

Ever had the feeling you were buying a service that you had no possibility of ever understanding... and vaguely feeling you may be getting hosed? You won't have to worry about that if you try Solomon Electrical. You will get a clear explanation of the service provided. You will get the price quoted or an explanation of any change.They will not look down their nose at your 1940's wiring and declare it needs to be entirely replaced. I just used them today and am very happy with the quality of the work and the the reasonable price. 5 Stars it is!

I have had Phil and his son work on several electrical projects ranging from installing overhead lighting to adding circuit breakers and installing whole house and ceiling fans. They always do a great job, are very reasonable with regard to cost, and are just genuinely nice guys who don't mind explaining the intricacies of electricity. I would highly recommend them to anyone and will continue to call them for my future electrical needs.

I had a breaker replaced by Solomon Electric, Phillip was punctual and professional, I sent him a picture of the broken hardware and he gave me an accurate and very reasonable estimate. I will use them again in future.

I had an interesting home buying experience last December, and I accidentally booked two electricians on the same day! 8[ Phillip was one of them, but when he saw the other contractor, he simply left his card and asked me to call him later. I did, and he said that he had heard of the other contractor, and knew his prices were inflated. I told him what he quoted me, and sent him the home inspector's report, and Phillip said he would do it for less than 1/3 the price. He explained to me that the other electrician was attempting to sell me things I didn't need, and he presented an alternative solution that was more affordable, safe, and within code. So I booked him :)

He came with his son after being easily available around my schedule, and they even fixed a problem that we didn't know we had! They were fast, friendly, thorough, and knowledgeable, so when we found ANOTHER issue (AC circuit has a break between the main house breaker and the unit breaker - no continuity) I called him immediately, unfortunately, he's about an hour late, however, I called him ten minutes ago and didn't get an answer, so my suspicion is that he's on the road and can't legally answer his phone. As long as he makes it here today, I'm fine, but that's because I'm a student and I just started my summer vacation, so I have time to hang around. I understand that people that have to take time off work to meet contractors don't have that kind of flexibility.

UPDATE: about five minutes after I posted this review, he sent me a text message, apologized, and said he was on his way. When he arrived, he was able to find the problem, and another we didn't know we had (go figure) he fixed both, and everything worked perfectly and safely. I'll for sure continue to call him for my electrical needs.

I used Phillip Solomon Electric to fix the major problems caused by another electrician. Phillip is a decent, knowledgeable and reliable guy with a great work ethic and character to do things right, his prices were fair, and he always wants to do right by his customers. I had no problem contacting him, or him contacting me, if he was going to be late or if he was running late. He always made a great effort to make things right, and to be sure we were safe in our home. I cannot praise him highly enough, and will always be grateful to him and his son for fixing our problems. I would not hesitate to call him again.

I chose Solomon as I like to support our military veterans, being a military wife. However, I have to say in the three different times that he came to my house, not one was he on-time and it wasn't until he was quite late that I was able to contact him or he contacted me. I can totally feel for the rain causing issues (and respect that he needed to help an elderly family,....but a phone call would have been nice). At my workplace being over two hours late because it was raining was never acceptable, and I had higher expectations for him than that.

His work was done well.

I'd highly recommend Philip, and glad to see that Yelp helped me out once again. I originally turned to Solomon because of the rave reviews. sure enough I had the same experience. He was very responsive, picked up the phone on my first call and was out the next morning to do the work. He and his son were polite, professional and fast...and prices were reasonable - $70 for a ceiling fan install and $95 to get a new outside outlet put in. It's difficult finding an affordable, reliable electrician but have no fear, you've found one at Solomon.

I highly recommend Phillip and his team. They are very honest, on time and very reasonably priced. Had several other companies come out and do an estimate and the others said I needed work done for hundreds more -- that I really didn't need. He is now my go-to for all my electrical needs.
