If you are assigned Smartchoice Service Inc by First American Home Warranty and don't have a choice to immediately change contractors, MAKE SURE YOU RECORD ALL OF YOUR INTERACTIONS with their technician!
Bogdan from Smartchoice came to my house 5 times over 3 months trying to fix the same problem: my dishwasher stopped dispensing detergent mid cycle and dishes remain dirty. Each time he left, the exact same thing would happen again and I would call Smartchoice back immediately. He eventually said he has tried replacing all of the parts he can think of and doesn't know why the same problem is still happening.
He stated to me that home warranty companies don't like to hear from a technician that they don't know how to complete a repair but that he has ""done everything that could be done"" and ""now the home warranty company needs to make the decision to repair, replace, or offer credit towards a new machine"" based on the report he will write that confirms he has now attempted all known repairs at this point yet the problem is still occurring.
WELL FRIENDS, instead of reporting exactly what he represented to me at every appointment, Bogdan/Smartchoice submitted a completely false report stating that there has been no mechanical failure to my unit!!! Unbelievable!
***UPDATE*** Yelp just contacted me because evidently this business has submitted complaints against my detailed review -- a clear attempt to silence mine and probably other recent reviews that reflect real experiences from homeowners and honest Yelpers. Despicable. I have shortened and sanitized my previous review so that I could add this update as a PSA; I do not appreciate misplaced threats of legal action or attempts to censor my perspective/experience.

Our experience with Smartchoice has been terrible.
We were connected to them through First American Home Warranty to fix a washer leak. It has now been four months working with Viktor and in that time he has caused more issues with our washer than we had before he got his hands on it.
In attempting to fix our washer, he caused a leak in the drain pipe which he claimed was not his fault and we had to pay out of pocket to fix the pipe. He also ordered new parts for the washer which took multiple weeks to get in and did not use some of the parts so he just left them in our garage for no reason. I'm not even sure the new parts were necessary or if he was just buying time on his open claim.
When he claimed in one of his most recent visits (I think we've had him out siz times) that the washer had been fixed, we attempted to use the washer and noticed our spin cycle did not work, which was not an issue before Smartchoice attempted to fix our washer. Our clothes turned out sopping wet even though we were told the washer was ""fixed""
Overall terrible experience. Viktor clearly does not know what he's doing.
I've told Home Warranty to remove this contractor from their service list. If you use Home Warranty and Smartchoice is your assigned service company, do not use them. We have been without a working washing machine since July because this company and its employees do not know how to properly fix the appliance.

After using this company for a while the last two claims were the worst I've had with any service contractor. I was connected to them through First American Home Warranty who showed little ownership for connecting us to smart choice for our repairs. The last two claims were as follows:
Ac unit not blowing cold air: the technician noticed the system was over charged and he balanced the Freon. He also noticed that we did not have a U-trap for our water exhaust so he installed one for us. Our ac unit was still not working and he suggested that the system needed cleaning, which is not covered under our warranty. First American refused to continue servicing the unit until we got it cleaned, typically $700. We contacted a third party repair place, Stephen's plumbing and air, to clean the unit for us, and they determined that the U-trap was installed incorrectly. He reversed the u-trap set up and the unit works fine. We almost had to pay $700 oop because of the technician. FAHW refuses to accept ownership of the problem since the ""qualified"" technician's suggestion was cleaning. This process took over a month and our home had no ac in the middle of summer.
For our washer: the technician had 2 scheduled no shows to appointments, and 1 no show to an unscheduled appointment. He had to come back 3-4 times to completely identify the problem, order correct part and tools, and fix it. The process took around a month to complete. Smartchoice offers no compensation for my time for missed work.
Tell your home warranty company to not connect you with them, and don't select them if you do not have a home warranty company.

I was very impressed by the quality of Service I received from Bogdan Bogdanov. He carefully explained what I needed to know about why my oven wasn't working. As he explained in detail, he waited patiently as I took notes. His demeanor was professional and extremely courteous. I appreciate such high quality individuals.

I had another company first and they ripped me off. I called these people and they were right there and did the job right. We were without our refrigerator for over a month, and now we have it back. Great job

My dishwasher didn't work, I called First American Home Warranty, and the job was assigned to Alan from Smart Choice. Alan was experienced and responsible. The switch under the sink was old and it began leaking when Alan was working. This gave him extra work, and his socks got wet. But Alan did not complain a little. He helped me to clean the mess and put some temporary thing for the switch. He told me to find a plumber or handyman to put on a new switch, but this temporary thing can hold one day so I didn't need to be too worried. Thank you, Alan!

Poor service, extremely poor value, overall negative experience.
My parent's AC went down during the heat wave. Fortunately, they had Old Republic Home Insurance and the AC was covered under the policy. Unfortunately, we were assigned 'smartchoice' and they came to troubleshoot. According to the tech, we needed a new computer board and parts would have to be ordered.
Once they received the part, I got a call from smartchoice to schedule the repair. However... 'you need maintenance.' How much is that? Rep quotes me '584 dollar.'
I said isn't $584 a bit steep for maintenance? He said no. I shopped around and found $584 was not reasonable, especially since at my local Costco the AC vendor inside offers a $69 Costco rate for routine maintenance service.
In this situation I was stuck. Had no choice but to fork over the $584. Forgot to mention, the rep offered a '44 dollar' discount but of course the tech said he was not as used of this and charged the full $584.
It is my hope that whoever is comparing and shipping around do their research first. This place is not worth the hassle.

Bogdan is great. He is very professional and knowledgeable for diagnosis and repair. He recently fixed my Dryer in Yorba Linda.

An appointment was made through our home warranty company. It was determined with the call was partial warranty and partial. Homeowner responsibility. That technician Bogdan explained everything in great detail to me and was extremely professional. We will be scheduling routine maintenance through this company in the future.
