Sesco Electrical
Company Overview
With 28 years of full-service home and commercial electrical work, we specialize in repairs, rewiring older homes, upgrades, fresh wiring setups, enhancing service capacity, sustainable inside and landscape lighting, low voltage systems, and integrated home control systems. We provide solar photovoltaic design and implementation. Family-run, we are dedicated to excellence in our work and client happiness. Moreover, we are a minority and woman-led company.
Our founder, Peitsa Hirvonen began his journey in the trades alongside his father. Both come from Finland and continue the heritage of skilled craftsmanship and dedication to excellence. In the 1980s, he gained electrical expertise from local contractors and launched SESCO Electrical in the year 1992. Starting with seismic and electrical systems, by the end of the 1990s, the company had grown into solar solutions and electrical services as it functions today. SESCO was incorporated in 2005 and included Regina Gilligan, his spouse, as a partner. Now, in 2020, Peitsa and Regina are getting ready for a new chapter in life and have passed on SESCO Electrical to two valued team members, Virginia Gonzalez and Hugo Lopez.
Virginia was raised the Bay Area and is a dedicated mother of three boys. Hugo was born from Guatemala and has over 35 years of experience as an electrician. He is now a co-owner of SESCO Electrical. Having worked at SESCO, he is enthusiastic to continue the tradition of SESCO.

We had a very easy time working with Sesco Electrical. We got a bid on adding 240 to our outside panel so we could install a charger for our new electric car, and they were available within a much more reasonable time frame than several other local companies. The estimate and then the work both were a breeze from my side, and Hugo who did the actual work was great! We're about to call them to do another job. Highly recommended.
Francesca F.Getting the quote went smoothly, and the guy seemed competent. The estimated price was reasonable. Then everything went horribly wrong. It was impossible to schedule with their electrician. When he did show up, the work was slow, with no explanation as to why. Then the worst part: I was charged 3 times what they estimated!!! I am new to the area and moved here with a young child. Who does that to a young family??? Buyer be warned. I would recommend finding anyone else. :(
Sesco came out to give an estimate on replacing some 2-prong outlets with 3-prong, installing some ethernet outlets, and replacing our elcctrical panel. They told me that it would be $250-$400 to put in 3-prong outlets, $50 to put in a GFCI and wrote this into their contract. Over the course of two visits by their electrician, they replaced one outlet with a GFCI and another with 3-prong and then sent me a bill for $1569. I canceled the rest of my work with them. Don't use this company, and if you do, just ignore their estimates. I paid $1569, $1000 over their estimate in our contract, to just have a single grounded outlet put in a wall and a single GFCI installed. Don't trust them.
I chose Sesco because of a high rating in Consumers Checkbook. They have done several jobs, from large to small, for us over the past several years, and, though not the cheapest, have always been punctual, professional, and friendly, and discussed several options, if the planned repair would be overly costly. We would definitely use them again.
Save yourself the trouble of dealing with this extremely unprofessional company. I needed a fixture repaired. I sent them photos of the item FOUR DAYS before the visit. Two hours before they were scheduled to come they texted that they can't find the part and don't know if they can repair what's there. BUT if they come to look at it they would still charge the full hour visit fee. Because I was working, I did not receive the text until 1/2 hour before the visit. They seemed amazed that I was upset that they couldn't fix it and didn't tell me until 1/2 before the visit. I wonder how they would have felt if I cancelled them 1/2 before the visit? It is also interesting to me that they doubt the competence of their electrician to fix a simple socket. Nope. Go elsewhere.
I am not sure what happened with Sesco Electrical and the job at my house. After a couple of phone calls with Virginia to arrange an estimate at my house, Hugo did not show up at the appointed time. I called and left a message asking if he was still planning to come. No answer, no return call, no show! At the least, I would have appreciated a call back to apologize and reschedule. Very disappointed.
Albert K.Repeat performance.
One of the 8 apartments in this 100 year-old building was vacated so this was an excellent opportunity to upgrade.
As usual, Greg came up with an innovative way to gain access to all areas by creating a small access door into the attic.
A new 20/30 electrical distribution panel was installed in the unit's hall fed by 60 amps from the main panel.
I am pleased to say the job was done efficiently and with integrity.
I'll stick with Sesco Electrical!
Awesome, professional, worth every penny. Don't cheap out on electric work of your biggest investment/asset.
Jen P.We had Sesco Electrical install a new electric panel, hardwired lighting in our newly purchased condo, and upgrade the wiring (pre-renovation) in our kitchen, and install undercabinet LED lights in January-February 2016. The workmanship / professionalism displayed by Pietsa, Greg and their team was nothing short of superb! During each step of the process, Greg (and Pietsa) were extremely transparent, outlined our options and helped to identify the best path forward for our renovation and finished all work ON time and on budget! Would highly recommend Sesco for any of your electrical needs AND will definitely be using them again in the future!
Post-work note: 1 year after completing the job, we reached out to Sesco because a baseboard heater in our dining room wasn't turning on. Less than 24 hours after sending Regina an e-mail, Greg came over and fixed the problem immediately! Customer satisfaction / quality work is something they take very seriously - thank you, Greg (and Regina) for addressing our concerns in such a timely fashion!
Lawrence B.SESCO recently helped us to upgrade our home's electrical system. They replaced one panel, moved another, and solved numerous wiring problems stemming from years of poor electrical work by other contractors. We were extremely happy with the job and highly recommend them. Peitsa, Virginia, Ezra and Hugo were all wonderful to work with -- courteous, creative, skilled, and a pleasure to have in our home. Their work was thorough and very organized, and we never felt that the scope of the project went beyond what we expected. We certainly would use SESCO again!
