Peitsa Hirvonen started his journey in the trades alongside his father. They come from Finland and continue the legacy of expert craftsmanship and commitment to excellence. During the 1980s, he gained electrical knowledge from local contractors and founded SESCO Electrical in 1992. Starting with seismic and electrical systems, by the 1990s' conclusion, the company had expanded into solar energy and electrical work as it functions today. The company incorporated in the year 2005 and included Regina Gilligan, Peitsa's wife, as a co-owner. Currently, in 2020, Peitsa and Regina are preparing for a new chapter in life and have passed on SESCO Electrical to two of SESCO's employees, Virginia Gonzalez and Hugo Lopez.
Virginia was raised the Bay Area and is a proud mother of 3 boys. Hugo Lopez was born from Guatemala and has over 35 years of experience as an electrician. He is now a joint owner of SESCO Electrical. After many years of dedication at SESCO, he is enthusiastic to continue the mission of SESCO.

Recommended Customer Reviews

We are completing a complex project with Sesco Electrical and the experience has been fantastic.
Sesco came highly recommended from a former electrician turned home inspector whom I trust implicitly. As a former electrician, he said ""Sesco are the only folks I would have help me on my projects"" and I understand why.
From Pietsa the business owner to Martha the office manager to Greg Potter who did most of the work on our house they are very professional, very knowledgeable, very responsive and really seemed to care about the job they were doing and the communication with us. Pietsa and Greg are extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of electrical projects and repair.
Not only did they scope the work properly and then execute - including managing some unforeseen curve balls as you're want to have when you open the walls on a 100 year old house. But they also managed the interface / process / permits with both PG&E and our local municipality, which involved multiple inspections, plenty of paperwork and lots of scheduling.
They are always happy to answer questions, over email / phone / in person, from the mundane to the more complex. They showed up promptly at 8am and worked well past 5pm on multiple days to get a certain part of the project started / finished in one day, etc.
Incidentally, we had another highly regarded contractor come by and when he saw Sesco working on the house commented ""Greg is great - about as much of a perfectionist as you will get. Very particular about getting things right"". What more could I ask for.
I highly recommend Sesco and will be engaging them for more work in the future.

I got a quote on the same day as posting this YELP review. The quote was competitive and they gave me an installation date for 10 days which I feel is appropriate. I will review again after the installation is finished.

These guys are FANTASTIC.
Not only were they diligent and flexible about scheduling and doing an estimate within our busy schedule, but Pietsa showed up on time and made a few recommendations that actually spared us from hiring an electrician and saved us thousands of dollars. How many service providers do you know that would do that?
I would not hesitate to use or recommend them.

Peitsa was referred to us by my real estate agent. We needed to upgrade our electrical to add a new circuit for central air conditioning. We had a few quotes from others that were either not sensitive to our electrical usage demands, our budget or the scope of desired work. Peitsa re-examined our house load with the addition of air conditioning, which was well within the existing service level of 100A - thereby avoiding an intrusive an unnecessary PG&E service change - and upgraded the subpanels to safe modern specs. Sesco's technical team was smart and efficient, and minimized the impact on the two home-office workers during the 2-day project. The pricing was as good or better than the others, but what really distinguished the team was the in-process work. There is a lot of discovery that occurs once walls start getting opened, 90-year old knob-and-tube fuse panels start getting replaced, and conditions owners don't visualize demand decisions. Greg, the lead technician, would explain any challenges as they came up and help decide on the optimal solution sensitive to budget, appearance and code compliance. Peitsa the owner is an exceptionally honorable businessman and his word is as good as gold.

SESCO came to us highly recommended by a trusted contractor/handyman we've used for years and they did not disappoint at all. Regina and Peitsa handled all of our permitting and paperwork to upgrade the electrical service to our house, Greg came out to finish the job and everyone was spot on, super nice, friendly, courteous of our space, wicked knowledgeable and totally professional. They showed up when they said they would, they worked with us on scheduling and access, etc and their pricing was what they said it would be and there have happily been no surprises. I'd have them back without any reservations.

We just had Peitsa and his team upgrade our electrical panel in preparation for a new solar system. Throughout this rather complex process, which included getting ready for a new PG&E drop, connecting a new electric instant hot water heater, and bringing the home shop wiring up to code, Sesco was one hundred per cent efficient, timely, personable, highly skilled, knowledgeable, honest and fair. Peitsa even caught some work done by the solar installers which was not up to snuff and would have otherwise become a real problem. He brings to his work a true passion for energy efficiency.

I called Sesco to schedule an electrical inspection of a home I'm purchasing in Berkeley. Regina answered the phone and had to keep repeating the same questions about the property because, she said, ""I'm in the middle of doing something."" Then why did you pick up the phone?
Anyway, after finally getting her attention, we arranged a date one week out for one of Sesco's electricians to visit the property, which required me coordinating with the owner's realtor and taking time off from work to attend the inspection. At 5 p.m. the night before the inspection (scheduled for 9 a.m. the next day), Regina wrote me to say her electrician couldn't make it and gave me the names of two other electricians to call. As if I can call them after business hours for an appointment the next day!
Needless to say, Sesco's customer service is awful, and their reliability just as bad. From the other reviews, it looks like they might do good work if you can get them to show up, but it's been a long time since I've experienced service this bad and with so much competition out there, why bother. Look elsewhere, oh ye mindful homeowner.

Sesco has some professional people who communicate very poorly among one another. We were not impressed that the estimator did not seem to talk with the electrician and then a third billing person who was outright unable to answer a simple question on what specifics were completed wrt our job. I think they seem to be decent people but they lacked a sense of professionalism. We are sure that there are more communicative and friendly people out there in the electric world.

SESCO staff has done a fantastic job of treating us like an important customer. They took the time to explain the electrical issues in laypersons terms and provided us with a number of solutions varying in both intensity and cost. Both individuals we dealt with were friendly and knowledgeable, helping us resolve our electric issues in our 100 year old home. We felt safe with them in our house.
Highly Recommended.

SESCO did great work in our home and they were all a pleasure to work with. So nice to have found a trustworthy electrical company. If you need someone to do your electrical- call them.
Gail at the office was timely with quotes and answering any questions. 2 guys came to do the work- Hugo was one of them and I don't remember the other guys name, but both were great and did their work quickly and very cleanly. Hugo was also very sweet. Would definitely use them again.
