I reached out to Sattler and described the problem. They provided a very prompt response and estimate. But, rather than charging me to make the emergency house call I was asking for, their expertise and integrity was proven by the fact that they immediately were able to correctly diagnose the issue just based on their experience and my description of the problem, and then they referred me to Alameda Municipal Power, because the problem was with the power meter. The AMP repair was free. Sattler could have charged me to come out, but they were so good at listening and experienced that they diagnosed it just based on their own knowledge and then helped me save money, rather than making an easy cash for what could have been an expensive house call. Really appreciate the honesty and expertise and would hire these folks in the future for sure.

My small cottage had been owned by an small-time investor who hired cheap and incompetent workers. I knew that the electricity was out of date and sketchy, and I waited till I could afford repairs. I wanted an electrician who specializes in old houses, as Sattler Electrical Services does. l I had no idea how badly the cottage was out of code or how dangerous some of the lapses were. Sid Sattler made a detailed assessment and estimated the work; he also noted that until workers got inside the walls and in the crawl space it was impossible to be sure of the details. He charges on the basis of hours and materials, which made me a bit leery. We agreed on a maximum price, with the proviso that new discoveries could cause the cost to go up. All that happened. The work took three and a half days, more than anticipated. Sid's work crew, headed by a remarkable man named Bernardo, were meticulous in every respect. There were a few miscommunications, mostly caused by me, but everything worked out well. When it was all completed, Sid came for a final review. He and his crew were uniformly pleasant and reliable; they came when expected, laid down protective coverings, and cleaned up thoroughly. Sid did me an extra service by recommending a contractor to install a heat pump, and the two contractors coordinated. With Sattler Electrical Services, you eliminate the annoyances that may come with a larger outfit, and you get direct, personal attention. I should add that Sid was ready to do the job within a few days, and the next contractor in line, also a small outfit, is similarly available. What could have been a drawn-out process is being completed far soon than I'd expected.

This is the electrical service to use! I contacted Mr. Sattler to put in a subpanel. Mr. Sattler gave me a very complete breakdown of the work that he felt needed to be done based on a conversation about how I would be using the subpanel in the future. This breakdown included a description of the subpanel, the code work, and time + materials pricing and labor charges. I knew exactly what I was getting into before he started. The work was finished quickly, and the crew cleaned up the basement after they completed the work. Mr. Sattler could not have been more accommodating of my schedule. We also emailed back and forth quite a bit before the work began, so that I had a clear understanding of what he felt needed to be done and what the various options were. Outstanding!

He vastly overcharged me. His estimates were based on Time and Materials, which is not acceptable for residential, and I have reported him to both the State Contractor's License Board and the District Attorney. Most of the work done was good, but maybe overkill, could have had more elegant and less expensive solutions, and he used the most expensive materials even though he knew I was on a fixed income.

We suddenly lost power for a circuit in our house this morning. Our Internet service and several lights/outlets in my home office and adjoining rooms were down as a result. After trying unsuccessfully to resolve the issue on my own, I called Sid, he answered right away, and after asking me about details, he talked me through the solution in about 2 minutes (I had thought that I'd completely turned off the circuit breaker before turning it back on, but I actually hadn't ... my bad!). I've used Sid for electrical issues in the past, and every time, including this one, he's been very responsive, very patient, and very thorough. I highly recommend his service!
