Paul Wegner owner of Santa Monica electric is extremely incompetent. He was hired to an entire new build, which he did, however, his inability to effectively communicate, over time caused an erosion of confidence in his true abilities. Mr. Wegner is not forthcoming with key information as a job progresses. At first I thought this lack of communication was due to a personality conflict in his mind of some sort, maybe it was just me, maybe our personalities just didn't match, or maybe he was having personal problem....but no, over the arc of time his worst skill (communication) became omnipresent, to the point where it was really a caustic personality issue. He managed to alienate everyone on the job, even his own employees. This really became apparent when I asked him even the simplest question, he would look at me like I had 3 heads. However his intransigent personality and inability to communicate are minor compared to his technical skill set as a licensed electrician. Mr Wegner took extreme liberties with my money and time, he exposed me to the potential for legal liabilities with the potential to cause extreme harm and or property damage. Before hiring this man you should ask him the following question, ""Have you ever intentionally cut a ground wire to a light switch?"" Just ask him this one simple question, if he says no he is lying. He takes the lazy way out when it comes to installing finished electrical work, and making ground connections, he intentionally clipped every single manufacturer attached ground wire of every single Lutron light switch in my house with a wire cutter, leaving only the box as a means to ground. This is extremely dangerous and goes against code and common sense. Light switch Manufacturers install ground wires inside light switch boxes (particularly for dimmers) for a reason. They are not just hanging on to the box to be pretty, they are the final critical connection to prevent an electrocution or fire should something ever go wrong, full stop! He did this on both every single switch and every single socket too.....He cuts them off, right down to the numb, to make it look like they were never installed to begin with. This is not only extremely dangerous but it is also the height of laziness, refusing to do the final step required for the safety of life limb and property. I only found out about this when a third party electrician was investigating why we were having issues with our Lutron dimmers. Had this third party not caught the issue I would have been blissfully unaware he was taking such dangerous shortcuts. The result of which could have been catastrophic! He is a reckless man, he belongs no where near your house, he may do things behind your back and you will never even know it. Rolling the dice is no something I'm interested in doing with electricity, you might as well play Russian roulette. Stay as far away from this man as possible. He is toxic, literally toxic.

One of my breakers tripped and it wouldn't trip back. First electrician replaced all the breakers in the box ($1100) and when that didn't work did a thorough trouble shoot to find the short ($400). He couldn't find it and said I'd need to rewire those rooms at a cost of $8000. The next electrician did some troubleshooting and said I also needed a rewire ($4800 quote). Then Paul came out and thought he could find the short and fix it without doing a rewire. It took awhile but true to his word, he found it, fixed it without needing to rewire and only charged me for his labor for the few hours he took to find it. Well worth calling Paul if you have an issue!

Santa Monica Electric is the most courteous, quick to respond and extremely fair pricing electric company that I have ever done business with. I highly recommend Paul and his company for any electric job no matter the size!!

Paul and crew are amazing! Very knowledgeable, reliable and honest. We have been using SM Electric for years, and no job too big or small, they do it all! We couldn't be happier and would highly recommend you use SM Electric.

I woke up to find part of my kitchen no longer had power - refrigerator, stovetop, microwave all down. Looked in the Neighbor 2 Neighbor westside book and found the listing for Santa Monica Electric. I called around 10 am, and they said they could get someone out to me before 2 pm. He arrived around 11:30 and was here until about 2:30. It ended up one of the circuits had burnt wire in the panel and was flashing. He spent most of the time in the crawl space running some new wire for that circuit. And did some other repairs he found that needed to be done while there. House was built in 1930's and always has some issues. He took pictures and showed me what he found and fixed. Extremely professional. I will use them on any future work and I recommend them highly.
And I felt the pricing was very reasonable for all the work that was done.

I highly recommend Santa Monica Electric. I've recommended them to many of my clients that have unsuccessfully paid other companies to try and fix their electrical problems. Every one of the clients that hired Santa Monica Electric were completely satisfied with Paul's work. Issues were found and resolved. I cannot give higher marks than 5 stars, but I would if I could.

I needed some work done for a condominium project in Santa Monica. I called Santa Monica electric, they came out, got the job done in a very professional manner.
I have lived in Santa Monica for 38 years and I would call no one else but Santa Monica electric.
On time, courteous and honorable

I called this company 2 years ago because there was no electricity to my garage. Their guy came out, looked at the problem and said we needed new wire run between the house and garage. I asked him to have the company send me an estimate for the work. They never sent the estimate and never followed up on doing the job, so I had to find another electrician to performed the work. Months later they started sending me invoices for the job claiming they fixed the problem and restored the electricity to my garage WHICH THEY DID NOT! They still have not stopped harassing me over 2 years later and keep attempting to collect payment for work they never did! These guys are completely incompetent.

I needed ceiling fan installed.
Paul arrived on time, was finished in no time and did a great job. I was happy with the price. It was well worth spending the money to save myself getting electrocuted!!
I will be using them again.
