I called Norm to come take a look at the leaky toilet at my mom's place. He was able to come within a few hours. I had missed his original text telling me he was coming over, and he waited 10 minutes for me to drive to my mom's place. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem (a loose tube) and only charged me $50 instead of the normal $150. He was quick and professional - will definitely call him again!

To break it down, Norm does great work, he is honest and his prices are fair. Norm is frustrating to communicate with and tough to tie down.
I'm writing this review because I'm looking for an electrician and had to laugh when I clicked on San Mateo Handyman and saw my horrible review for him(read below). Apologies to Norm that I didn't correct this sooner. It's been a long time so I can't remember the details, I guess we finally connected, he came over and did the work perfectly and so incredibly fast! I really liked him and loved that he came, conquered and left much more quickly than I could have imagined. He is no fuss, no muss.
Fast forward to last year and he came out and did some work for my parents. He did good work. Norm's problem is that he is just bad at communication. My Mom was so frustrated that she gave up. He then called me and asked if I had a job for him. Confused I told him it was my Mom that was trying to get ahold of him. He said something about his son getting ahold of his calendar, blah, blah blah. He then did call my Mom, but the she had problems getting him to commit and finish the job, which he finally did.
In this time of rabid construction/remodels it's tough to find someone to do the smaller jobs. If you can handle the time it takes to chase him down and get him to your house, his often confusing texts (like confirming something that has nothing to do with what he's working on for you) and lots of unnecessary repeating of information. If you can deal with that, he does a great job and he is an honest guy.

I can't even fathom this. I've had such bad luck with handymen, home-services companies, landscapers, etc. that I figured there's no way ""San Mateo Handyman"" would be worthy of the five stars everyone here has given him.

Well, I submitted for a quote on Yelp anyways. Norman literally calls me five minutes later. He called me back the next morning to see if he could stop by. He met with me and scoped out the project. Came back later in the afternoon and fixed my leak.

THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN 24 HOURS, and it wasn't even an emergency call!

Well, I hope Normal likes working with this customer because he's got my business for a long time to come.

I read the reviews and called. I sent pictures immediately as requested. I was uncomfortable with a ""sight unseen"" quote and Norman came over. I waited for a quote and over two weeks later I have heard zip!

Norman is a very conscientious handyman and does a thorough and efficient job. His rates are reasonable, and he is a true professional. Norman did a great job with installing all of the towel rods and train racks in our bathrooms. He also provided solid recommendations for other jobs we were considering in the future.
